Listen up Hun, as
SEGA announces Total War: ATTILA, a new installment in
Creative Assembly's historical strategy series coming to Windows and OS X next
year. The Total War website offers
this cinematic trailer
introducing the new game, also offering
some details and screenshots. Here's the announcement: SEGA® of
America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe, Ltd. today announced Total War ™ : ATTILA, the
next instalment in the multi award-winning Total War series of strategy games.
The Dark Ages approach. A time of famine, disease and war, where refugees in
their thousands flee from a sweeping tide of destruction and death. Desperate
barbaric tribes rally against the ailing might of a dying and divided Roman
empire; the light of civilization gutters and dims. In the great steppes of
Scythia, a vast and terrifying force gathers, led by a warrior king whose thirst
for conquest is utterly unequalled.
The Scourge of God, the very herald of the apocalypse, Attila the Hun.
Total War: ATTILA introduces exciting new gameplay mechanics which improve and
add to numerous core turn-based and real-time Total War systems. The world will
darken around you as Attila’s forces descend on your homeland creating a unique
vision of survival strategy.
“With Total War: ATTILA we will create a Total War game that will challenge and
enthrall fans of the series” said Janos Gaspar, project lead on ATTILA. “We’re
reintroducing some features that fans have been asking for, such as family trees
and skill trees, and improving many of the core aspects of Total War we know are
important to them. But to really bring the period to life, we’re building on
these foundations with many new strategic features for them to consider, such as
advanced street-fighting, civilians, complete settlement destruction and dynamic
fire that can rage across a city as armies clash. We want to push players to the
limits of their skill to survive against the odds, and to love every minute of
it.” Continue here to read the full story.
Bethesda Blog
announces The Evil Within is gold, and the completion of the survival
horror game puts it on track for release on October 14th in Europe and North
America, October 16th in New Zealand and Australia, and October 23rd for Japan.
They
also offer recommended system specifications for the game, saying they do
not have a minimum spec to provide, simply saying they "cannot guarantee optimal
performance" on systems that don't meet the following outline: Recommended
PC System Specifications
- 64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8
- i7 with four plus cores
- 4 GBs RAM
- 50 GB of hard drive space*
- GeForce GTX 670 or equivalent with 4GBs of VRAM
- High Speed Internet Connection
- Steam account and activation
*It’s worth noting that the 50 GB of space required is for the PC install.
When the installation is complete, the game will take up ~41 GB of HDD
space.
Traveling Monster Hunter
is a new video for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the RPG sequel in the works at CD
Projekt RED. The clip combines live footage of the developers in appropriately
scenic locations, as well as in game footage accompaniment as they "talk about
the dangers, challenges, and adventures that await you in the vast, open world
of The Witcher." Continue here to read the full story.
There are two new additions to the collection of #HowWillYouSurvive video
shorts from Alien: Isolation, Creative Assembly's upcoming survival/horror
shooter. One is called
Misdirection, which "highlights how good timing and a useful device can give
you a little bit of extra escape time. The Noisemaker is a powerful device and
is excellent for drawing away the attention of the creature…. for a little
while." The other is
Nowhere is Safe, where word is: "Facing a fast, brutal and intelligent enemy
when you’re underpowered and underprepared will never be easy. When you think
that you might have escaped, remember – no where is safe." Continue here to read the full story.
Bethesda Blog announces QuakeCon is turning 20 this year, though they are
getting ahead of themselves since it isn't 2015 yet. They reveal the dates for
the 20th installment in the series as July 23-26, which will once again be at
the
Hilton Anatole Hotel. Here's word on what to expect: In its landmark
year, QuakeCon 2015 continues its non-stop celebration of games and the people
who play them with North America’s largest BYOC (Bring-Your-Own-Computer) LAN
party. And after 20 years, QuakeCon is much more than just a BYOC — the event
and the hotel itself offer activities for the whole family.
As always, QuakeCon offers lots of excitement for those who don’t bring their
own computer. QuakeCon has long been recognized for its panels and presentations
given by top industry luminaries and exhibits showcasing previews of Bethesda’s
highly anticipated unreleased games. Just ask anyone that got to check out DOOM
this past August! Additionally, the world’s leading technology companies will be
on site to demonstrate their latest hardware and accessories. Each day of
QuakeCon is packed with tournaments, game presentations, contests,
entertainment, announcements, panel discussions, parties and more!
Matrix Games announces Frontline - The Longest Day, a new World War II strategy
sequel to Frontline: Road to Moscow. This is based around the D-Day invasion,
and the title draws inspiration from the
1962 all-star
movie The Longest Day. This is coming to Windows and iOS, and
the game's product
section notes that it is "made for iPad."
This page will allow you to
sign up to beta test either version, and here's a bit on what this is all
about: Successor of the very successful Frontline: Road to Moscow that
reached the top of the charts on iPad this past spring, The Longest Day moves
the action west and focuses on the D-Day operation that turned the tide of the
war. From developer 88mm, this new chapter of the Frontline saga preserves the
strengths that made it popular – original art direction, variety of units, and
streamlined UI – and introduces deeper gameplay elements to provide a more
realistic simulation of the battlefield. As the 5 massive campaigns unfold,
players will have to take into account more and more variables like landmines,
flanking maneuvers, and encirclements in order to breach the heavy Axis
defensive lines.
Kalypso Media announces the release of Mad World, a new DLC pack for
Tropico 5, the island dictator sequel. This is available through
Steam and the
Kalypso Launcher, and
offers a new standalone scenario, a new building, a new sandbox map, and more.
Here's the deal: The ‘Mad World’ DLC for Tropico 5 is out today on PC and
El Prez needs your help in the brand new ‘Madness’ scenario! Set in the ‘World
War’ Era, things have gone a bit too far for the mighty El Prez this time and
the loving support of Penultimo just isn’t enough. Return him to his usual sharp
self and share the benefit of advanced health care using the new Asylum building
– though be warned: as with all things Tropico, there are two sides to every
story. Will you provide health and happiness to the people, or push your enemies
to the brink of madness? ‘Mad World’ includes the new ’Madness’ scenario, the
all new Asylum building, St. Dimpa sandbox map, the very serious Funnel Hat
avatar accessory, and a spicy salsa music track to help lift the mood of the
troubled Tropicans!

Frozenbyte announces the release of a beta of the Frozenbyte Editor, which
will allow the creation of custom levels for Trine & Trine 2
(thanks
PC Gamer). Here's word on why they've held off on this release, which
cautions users that this may involve some difficulties: You read
correctly! We’re finally releasing our Frozenbyte Editor for both of the Trine
games. As we did with Trine Enchanted Edition, this first editor release is a
public BETA, and will be behind a password.
The reason we’ve held off releasing the editor to the public before has been
quite simple. It’s pretty difficult to use if you don’t know what you’re doing,
and there’s *very* little documentation or tooltips.
So did we make an easy-to-use version for everyone to enjoy? The answer to that
is…not really :) Instead we’ve opened a wiki page at
www.frozenbyte.com/wiki and
provided some very basic instructions on how to use our editor. It’s an open
wiki after you’ve registered, so anyone can edit and post information, and we
hope that people will start to share their knowledge with everyone. We’ll also
be updating the wiki ourselves and tracking that all the instructions are
correct and up-to-date.
The Frozenbyte Editor is a very diverse tool. This is what we use to make games
like Trine and Trine 2, and it’s based entirely on our own technology. You can
now edit existing maps, make new maps and do all kinds of things with it. If
this sounds like fun, go a head and play with the features and
experiment!
Surprise Attack Games announces that October 21st is the release date for
Screencheat, their upcoming Windows, OS X, and Linux shooter where players
can only find their invisible opponents by seeing their point of view on a
split-screen, recalling the days when this was an unavoidable aspect of
multiplayer console games. Here's a look ahead at the release along with a look
back at the beta: With the Screencheat open beta now over and the game
entering into its final stages of development, developer Samurai Punk and
publisher Surprise Attack Games are pleased to announce that Screencheat will be
releasing on Steam on the 21st of October, for PC, MAC, and Linux. No longer
will friendships be ruined due to poor sportsmanship in split-screen shooters,
because in Screencheat everyone is invisible. When you can’t see your foes,
you’re only choice is to screen cheat in order to win!
The Screencheat beta brought out the best and worst in people from around the
world last month, captivating 12,707 cheaters globally. In a Screencheat Cold
War revival, the two most lethal nations were the United States and Russia.
Given that the US has produced some of the world’s greatest cheats, like Lance
Armstong, it’s not surprising to see that the USA brought it home with a
whopping 168,812 kills over the beta period. Not too far behind though were the
Russians, with 91,292 kills, but even with a Putin-like fighting spirit, they
just couldn’t hold up against the West.

L'shanah tovah to all who are celebrating the Jewish new year of Rosh Hashanah,

still be writing 5774 on my checks for another couple of weeks.
