combat that pits two teams of five against each other armed with powerful, craftable weapons. At the core of Minimum is a blueprint crafting system with

The rumored Microsoft
acquisition of Mojang is now official, confirming
reports that a $2.5B
deal would be announced today. As noted on
ZDNet, the Minecraft maker is the fourth non-U.S. company acquired by
Microsoft this year. The Mojang website has
word that company founders Notch, Carl, and Jakob will leave the company,
saying: "We don’t know what they’re planning. It won’t be Minecraft-related but
it will probably be cool." Here's more: Why did you sell Minecraft?
Minecraft has grown from a simple game to a project of monumental significance.
Though we’re massively proud of what Minecraft has become, it was never Notch’s
intention for it to get this big.
As you might already know, Notch is the creator of Minecraft and the majority
shareholder at Mojang. He’s decided that he doesn’t want the responsibility of
owning a company of such global significance. Over the past few years he’s made
attempts to work on smaller projects, but the pressure of owning Minecraft
became too much for him to handle. The only option was to sell Mojang. He’ll
continue to do cool stuff though. Don’t worry about that.
There are only a handful of potential buyers with the resources to grow
Minecraft on a scale that it deserves. We’ve worked closely with Microsoft since
2012, and have been impressed by their continued dedication to our game and its
development. We’re confident that Minecraft will continue to grow in an awesome
way.
Minecraft means many different things to millions of people across the world,
and to each and every Mojangsta. We feel that this is the best way for everyone
– you guys included – to benefit.
What about the other editions of Minecraft? Will they stop being developed?
There’s no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac, Xbox
360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, iOS, and Android versions of Minecraft to stop.
Of course, Microsoft can’t make decisions for other companies or predict the
choices that they might make in the future.
We’re extremely proud of all editions and the awesome things you have achieved
through playing together.
Is the game going to change? Will we still be able to make videos, mods,
awesome builds, and all the cool stuff we’ve created over the past few years?
Minecraft will continue to evolve, just like it has since the start of
development. We don’t know specific plans for Minecraft’s future yet, but we do
know that everyone involved wants the community to grow and become even more
amazing than it’s ever been. Stopping players making cool stuff is not in
anyone’s interests.
Steve Jaros
tweets that he is leaving Volition of is own volition, following this with
an expression
of pride in the accomplishments of the Saints Row team, where he had
served as creative director (thanks
GameSpot). He follows these tweets
with word
that he is landing at Valve Software: "...I'm looking forward to new adventures
at Valve Software. @jymmitee @Anim8der Chris King. If we don't get drinks when
I'm in town I'll cry."
It is not surprising to see Destiny is the big story on the new
all platforms chart from GfK Chart-Track's
now more inclusive U.K. sales listings. Since Bungie's new shooter was not
destined for PCs, The Sims 4 retains the number one spot on the
PC entertainment chart. Here's the write-up: Released on Tuesday 9th
September, Activision Blizzard and Bungie’s blockbuster ‘Destiny’ arrives at No1
as the biggest new IP launch ever.
Destiny is only playable online, but this hasn’t stopped it from toppling this
year’s previous biggest launch and new IP, Ubisoft’s ‘Watch Dogs’. The PS4
edition, accompanied by sales from new fixed hardware bundles in both black and
white, takes a 46% share, Xbox One 36%, Xbox 360 14% and PS3 4%.
Last week’s No1 ‘The Sims 4’ (-63%) drops to second place ahead of ‘Watch Dogs’
which despite a 29% boost in sales from retailer promotions also slips one
place, down to No3. Activision Blizzard have 2 titles in the Top 5 thanks to
‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (+11%) gaining two places, up to No4. ‘The Last of Us:
Remastered’ ( -16%) and ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (-6%) both make way for
‘Destiny’, down one place to No’s 5 and 6 respectively. There are two more Top
10 new entries this week with EA’s ‘NHL 15’ launching at No7 (a better placing
than NHL 14’s debut at No11) and Bandai Namco’s PS3/360 ‘Naruto Ultimate Ninja
Storm Revolution’ at No10.
‘Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare’ (-20%) and ‘Minecraft: Playstation 3
Edition’ (-11%) are both non-movers at No8 and No9. Previous No1s ‘Diablo III
Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil’ (-51%) and ‘Metro Redux’ (-52%) both fall out of
the Top 10, Diablo down from No5 to No13 and Metro down from No3 to No14.
Standalone PS4 expansion ‘Infamous: First Light’ is switched on at No17 and
retailer promotions on ‘The Borderlands Collection (1 & 2)’ (+999%) and ‘The
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary’ (+235%) push them both back into the Top 40
at No’s 24 and 29 respectively.
games.on.net - Sudden (AU) price rises for games just make everybody mad –
so why do publishers keep doing it?
Australians feel attacked because, without any attempt to hide it, a
company slaps them with an artificial surcharge that has absolutely no basis
in reality, for a digital product that doesn’t actually exist. They’ve seen
behind the curtain, and there’s no magic: just a giant middle finger.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Some Subjective Thoughts On Objectivity.
There are an awful lot of gaming sites, and there are an awful lot of
them reporting gaming news, as presented to them by PRs, publishers and
developers. Because let’s be clear: the vast majority of what is presented
as “news” in the world of gaming is, “This game has been announced,” or,
“Here is a new trailer for this game.” Simply reporting this news may be
desired by some, and there are an awful lot of places people can visit for
such straight delivery of a publishers’ facts. Which is why we think RPS
offers far, far more to our readers by doing something different: To report
the announcement of a game, or the arrival of a new trailer, and then to
give our subjective opinion of that news. Be it, “Oh boy, we’re so excited
that this game exists, because the previous ones have been tippety-top!” or,
“Wow, this game looks gross,” our opinion infects our coverage because it’s
written by us, on our website. We know, absolutely, that our opinion can be
rejected by those reading the news, and indeed we most frequently offer
space below the post for people to voice their disagreement. “No, the
previous games were terrible, and this one’s going to be worse!” “How can
you say it looks gross, you sillies – it looks flipping amazing.”
Spent too much time in the great outdoors yesterday after forgetting a hat. As a
head-shaver, this can be a problem, and sure enough, I've got a sunburned scalp
to show for my carelessness, and with just a week remaining in the summer to
boot. It actually doesn't look bad with a little color, but when the skin starts
peeling it's going to be really weird.
