Binkowski tweets that Dying Light will be coming out a little earlier
than the February release previously announced for Techland's zombie game
(thanks
GameInformer). Word is: "@DyingLightGame has a release date everybody! :)
it's January 27th 2015! Woohoo! :)."
CapCom Unity announces the release of the first patch for the Windows
edition of Dead Rising 3 to address some crashes in the zombie game,
though they add that they are still working on an additional issue: First
of all, the team here at Capcom would like to thank you for your patience and
support many of you have provided in the original bug report thread.
Without further ado, the first patch rolling out today [available now] will
address the following issues:
- Fixed an issue which caused game progress to not
save or load correctly when Steam Cloud is enabled.
- Fixed an issue which made it impossible to select
native resolutions on some video card / monitor setups.
- Fixed an issue which was causing the game to not
shut down properly.
Note that you may need to restart or log in/out of your Steam client to force
the patch download. Download size should be around 10MB, and the patch is
applicable to everyone who owns DR3.
Note on crash issues
Please note the team is still actively looking into fixing the initial
load-screen CTD/hangs affecting certain Nvidia Optimus laptop users as well as
the random in-game crash affecting a subset of desktop users. The information
you have provided has given us good leads which we are investigating now. We
expect to have more news for you soon.
A new trailer from
Alien Isolation attempts to answer the question of how you will survive in the
survival/horror game without shooting. Word is: "With new footage exploring
another area of the station and the dangers of the environment awaiting you, our
taster video shows how, in the heat of the moment, certain choices can make a
big difference…" Continue here to read the full story.
Grundislav Games and Wadjet Eye Games announce A Golden Wake, a
point-and-click adventure game coming to Windows, Linux, and OS X on October 9th
(we may be hitting the point where all game titles will sound like mash-ups of
other game titles). The
A Golden Wake website
is accepting preorders, and offers details, screenshots, and
this trailer. Here's
word: When you think of the Roaring Twenties, maybe you picture Gatsby's
lavish New York parties or gun-toting mobsters in Chicago... but what about
sunny Florida? A Golden Wake is set in the real-life location of Coral Gables, a
Miami suburb that experienced an unprecedented real estate boom in the 1920s.
Playing as hopeful entrepreneur Alfie Banks, try to strike it rich with the mob
on your back, the Great Depression on the horizon, and Florida's lucrative
waterfront just one hurricane away from total devastation. Continue here to read the full story.
Wyrmbyte announces a change to the business model for Dragons & Titans.
Though their MOBA remains a free-to-play affair, they have removed
microtransactions to eliminate the pay-to-win aspect of the game, replacing this
with a macrotransaction that gets all previously released content for $19.99.
This helps illustrate the complaint often voiced about microtransactions, as
they note that these items would have cost $650.00 under the old model.
This trailer
introduces the concept, and here's word: A free version of Dragons and
Titans is still available where players can get access to dragons through a
rotating selection of 1st tiers dragons and weapons. This version of the game
also has no microtransactions, and progression relies on playing and earning
in-game crystals which they can use towards getting higher tiered dragons and
weapons - similar to Titan Pass owners. However, they will not have access to
all the avatars, skins and the single player campaigns, Acts 2, 3, and 4, all of
which is exclusive content for Titan Pass owners. Continue here to read the full story.
Ubisoft now offers a new
trailer from The Crew titled "Everybody, Drive Social," suggesting they
missed the best episode of
schoolhouse rock. "Never drive alone" doesn't have the same ring as "never
get out of the car," but that one was already taken, so we'll forgive them.
Here's the explanation of this mantra: "In all its majesty of a massive US map
and its action-driving splendor, The Crew comes down to one simple creed: NEVER
DRIVE ALONE. The world of The Crew is simply too massive, too loaded with
activities for it to be experienced alone. Watch how seamless the connected
experience of driving and exploring in The Crew is and all the different
cooperative and competitive interactions you can have within the sprawling
network of friends and rivals. Welcome to a world where everyone is a connected
driver, and NEVER DRIVE ALONE." Continue here to read the full story.
Slightly Mad Studios shows off World of Speed in
this new trailer
from their upcoming racing game featuring some racing action through the streets
of Moscow. Here's the deal: "The streets of Moscow make the perfect racetrack in
the latest trailer of Slightly Mad Studios and My.com’s upcoming online racer,
World of Speed. Tires fly across the track and barricades are busted down to
make shortcuts as the trailer highlights the team-based gameplay of World of
Speed. Each team member goes after specific in-race objectives to prevent the
opposing team from completing theirs. In World of Speed everything a player does
in a race counts and can help their team win even if they aren’t the car in
first place." Continue here to read the full story.

Racing game specialist SimBin is no more, having gone through the bankruptcy
process in Sweden to facilitate a restructuring, resulting in the formation of a
new company named Sector 3 Studios, which will continue development of RaceRoom
Racing Experience, the simulation they began as SimBin. This reported
on Develop, where former SimBin COO Christopher Speed explains the
bankruptcy was the "easiest" way to conduct the restructuring they sought,
indicating this process cost 18 employees their jobs. "I formed Sector 3 to
first try and keep as much of the talent SimBin employed as possible,” the aptly
named Speed explains. "I also believe in RaceRoom Racing Experience as a product
and the surrounding commercial ventures that were spawning from it."
CBS Interactive and startup publisher GameSamba announce development of Star
Trek: Alien Domain, an upcoming Star Trek MMORPG, though Trekkie gamers
already used to let-downs may be disappointed to learn this is a browser-based
dealie, rather than a standalone game. "We're excited to make a game based on a
franchise we're all such huge fans of," said Scott Wong, president of GameSamba.
"The chance to add our own story to the Star Trek universe, and help bring it to
a global audience, is one of those opportunities you can only dream of." This
doesn't carry a release date, but the placeholder
Star Trek Alien Domain website
says "coming soon," and GameSamba promises more about the game will be "revealed
in the coming months." There's a rendering on the game's fledgling
Facebook page and
Twitter account that bears a spooky
resemblance to Spock, but this must be the result of a little pon farr based on
the time-frame outlined in this description: Set in the mysterious
extradimensional realm of Fluidic Space, players will make strategic decisions
to maintain control over limited resources, balance defensive spending with
research, establish colonies, and prioritize power distribution for optimal
efficiency. Players will also have the option to participate in PvP encounters
such as one-on-one skirmishes, raids against player-controlled outposts, and
large-scale, guild vs. guild Alliance Battles.
Taking place after the most chronologically recent Star Trek canon and featuring
a new Star Trek story, players will control a variety of starships and
technologies native to their chosen faction. Starships include
Constitution-class and Defiant-class starships for the Federation, and D7 Battle
Cruisers and Bird-of-Prey for the Klingon Empire. Players will even be able to
craft and pilot unprecedented super starships created through emerging
technologies. Creating a diverse starship fleet is essential for exploring the
deep reaches of Fluidic Space and quelling its threats, as well as for defending
against rival colonies and players.
An
Arena Commander V0.9 Status Update on the Roberts Space Industries website
indicates they are very close to releasing the version 0.9 update for the Arena
Commander module for Star Citizen first mentioned
over three months ago when
the debut version 0.8 was released. They explain the hoops they must now go
through in order to push out a patch once their release candidate is improved,
adding they are planning on improving this kludgy-sounding system to streamline
this process going forward. There will apparently be a new hangar patch this
weekend, as shown off in
this user video.
This recent post outlines all the changes planned for version 0.9,
summarizing the news in this shortlist:
- Murray Cup Racing Mode: As shown at
Gamescom, players can now race their pledge ships in a specially designed
upper-atmospheric scenario!
- Vanduul Swarm Co-Op: Take on the alien
hoards with a friend, or competitor!
- Flyable M50 and 350R: The M50 and the 350R
have been readied for flight to kick off the race mode. These ships will now
be flyable in all Arena Commander game modes.
- Private Matches: Tired of being matched
with random players in AC? Private matches will let you play with friends!
- Friend Codes: We’re launching a code system
for both private and public matches so you can connect with your wingmen.
- Leaderboards: Your performance in Arena
Commander’s various modes will display on the RSI website and allow you to
compare with others.
- Updated Ship Performance: We’ve increased
the speed and acceleration of every ship. With this we’ve also reworked the
afterburner mechanic to increase acceleration instead of top speed.
- HUD Update: We’ve overhauled the usability
of the visor HUD interface so you can customize your ships systems much more
easily in flight.
- New Hangars: We’ve remastered all of Star
Citizen’s Hangars with the new forward-looking room system and added the
Asteroid Hangar.
- New Pause Menu: Our refactored pause menu
is a large step forward aesthetically, and will support new features like
custom keybindings in the future. In the meantime we’ve included selectable
profiles for the most common peripherals.
- 6DOF: With the improvements to the IFCS and
flight physics we are now ready to introduce 6DOF movement for an entirely
new way to fly.
A new cinematic trailer
from Starpoint Gemini 2 celebrates the news that this space sim/RPG is
nearing official release after about a year of early access. While the countdown
to launch continues, Iceberg Interactive also announces a new patch will go out
tomorrow adding big picture support: "Developer Little Green Men Games will also
push another big update for the game on Friday 12 September, which includes the
Steam Big Picture feature. With full controller support, Big Picture mode will
let gamers kick back and enjoy the game on the biggest screen in house." Continue here to read the full story.
A new trailer from
Styx: Master of Shadows offers a Star Wars reference with its title "attack
of the clone." This look at Cyanide Studio's upcoming "dark-fantasy infiltration
game" also invokes the prequel
trilogy in describing this clone as being vomited out, though that's hopefully
where the comparisons end. They say: "your skulk through the Tower of Akenash
will see you surrounded at all times by hordes of powerful enemies, which calls
for reinforcements, in the form of a regurgitated clone!" Here's a bit more on
what we're seeing here: "Using the Amber in your veins, call upon this fleshy
friend to open new tactical and strategic opportunities, as seen in this video
showcasing a few of the clone's abilities, such as dragging unsuspecting guards
into chests, and blinding them, allowing you to pass." Continue here to read the full story.
It's London calling in
the latest trailer from Crimes & Punishments, as this puts the spotlight (or gaslamp) on the London setting of the latest of Focus Home Interactive's series
of Sherlock Holmes games. Word is: "London and its suburbs are composed of
varied and exotic locations, sprawling with culture and class at every turn.
From moon-lit grimy alleys, to sun-kissed Chinese gardens, no matter how
seemingly peaceful a scene may be, it is always open to the horrible thefts and
murders that Holmes charges himself with investigating. Hot on the scent, you --
along with Watson -- will find yourself readying the motor-carriage to visit some
of the most famous locations in and around London, such as Kew Gardens and the
Roman city of St Albans. Where there is beauty there is murder, in this faithful
recreation of the Victorian world." Continue here to read the full story.
