A headline on the
Line of Defense website announces the release of the Line of
Defense on Steam early access, though the body of the announcement clarifies
that today marks the beginning of pre-purchases and preloads, and that actual
early access to 3000AD's MMOG will begin on Monday. Here's word on how this all
works: After some delay while we create new Early Access tiers, work
through the kinks, last minute tweaks etc, the game is finally going live on
Steam Early Access.
At some point today, it will be available to pre-purchase and pre-load at a 50%
discount for all three Early Access tiers (Commander
($99.99),
Ambassador ($69.99),
Emissary ($39.99)).
This one-time only discount will run from today, Wed, Sept 10th through to
midnight on Mon, Sept 15th.
The game is going live (playable) on Tue, Sept 16th. At which time if you
already pre-purchased and pre-loaded the game, you will be able to join a server
and get going.
It is very – very – important that BEFORE you buy any tier, that you please read
our Early Access FAQ
in order to get a better understanding of what this is about and what we’re
doing. This FAQ text is identical to what you will see on the game’s Steam page
as well once it goes live.

This video offers a
look at a co-op mission in Assassin's Creed Unity, accompanied by developer
commentary from creative director Alex Amancio to help understand what we're
seeing. Word is: "In heist missions you’ll have to coordinate your skills and
attacks to infiltrate, steal the artifacts, and escape without being detected.
The less you’re seen, the higher your reward for finishing the mission will be.
Heists are just one type of co-op mission and with constantly changing goal
placement as well as a variable number and location of guards you can replay
heists again and again for a fresh experience every time." Continue here to read the full story.

Microsoft is maneuvering to acquire Minecraft creator Mojang in a deal that
could be worth more than two billion dollars, reports the
Wall Street Journal, based on information from "a person with knowledge of
the matter." This seems surprising since Mojang founder Marcus "Notch" Persson
is famous for lashing out at some of the big players in the tech industry,
including
Microsoft, but they characterize the discussions as "serious," and say a deal
could be closed as soon as this week. Neither company responded to WSJ's request
for a response to this report.
Bloomberg two-ups WSJ, saying they've heard from "three people with
knowledge of the talks," adding that Notch himself seems to have initiated these
alleged negotiations, and that he would likely leave the company if a deal is
consummated.

Some community concerns about Transverse have appeared since
the announcement of this upcoming sci-fi
MMORPG from Piranha Games, and these are summarized by
IncGamers. The game is drawing understandable comparisons to Elite
Dangerous and Star Citizen, and some less understandable comparisons
as well, as the
RSI Community Forums notes similarities between the designs of some
Transverse ships to those from Star Citizen. IncGamers also quotes Cloud
Imperium's Ben Lesnick saying: "It’s a real project. We were worried it was
going to be Wing Commander: Online – EA offered them the license at one point."
The Transverse website shows this has
attracted only 36 backers as of this writing, and the
Transverse forums have comments from many users taking a wait-and-see
approach to this after their experiences backing MechWarrior Online.
These pledges total $3,840, while the
project's goals are $1
million for space flight, $1.5 million for ship construction, $2 million for
space combat, and $2.5 million for "spaceships harvesting," leaving open the
possibility of a game where you can build a ship with weapon systems but not
engage in spaceship combat.
Speaking of Piranha Games, the
MechWarrior Online Forums have a note from a couple of days ago revealing
that the developer has retrieved the publishing rights to MechWarrior Online
from IGP, who had published the MMORPG for the past three years (thanks
Rhialto). Here's what happened: It's with great excitement that I share
with you that Piranha Games Inc. has reached a deal with Infinite Game
Publishing for the return of all MWO publishing rights to PGI as of September
1st 2014. Over the past three years Piranha enjoyed a good working relationship
with IGP. From the beginning IGP brought passion and dedication to the
MechWarrior brand and had many employees that were completely dedicated to the
products success. However it can still be very difficult at times to make the
corporate needs and strategies of two companies align, for this reason we were
able to come to agreement with IGP for all publishing, marketing and hosting
responsibilities to move to Piranha. With these responsibilities now here,
everything from design, development, marketing and control of hosting resides
within Piranha's offices. It is our expectation that this will lead to much more
efficient development and marketing of the product. Although we just signed the
deal at the end of Aug, we have been operating under this model since the
beginning of August, this is reflected in the increased community efforts and
updates over the last five weeks. This, along with the marketing efforts of the
many events and faction based sales. This is a good example of how efficiently
things can be with all facets within the same office space, were committed to
continuing this efficiency throughout the entire project.
The Steam Page for
Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies is online, revealing a September 23rd launch
date for Nexon's free-to-play zombie shooter.
This announcement clarifies this will still be considered an open beta, and
outline more of what to expect: A huge number of modes will be available,
featuring both PvP and PvE gameplay. Possess and use, to a dangerous effect, the
various unique abilities in Zombie Hero; lead a team of survivors to build and
defend a base against continuous waves of zombies in Shelter Mode; or advance
through intense Zombie Scenarios that will throw players into boss fights, among
other activities. Even outside of zombies, there are more than 20 modes to
explore, such as Beast Mode, Bazooka Mode, and Football Mode. Veteran fans of
the Counter-Strike series will also surely be glad to see a number of offerings
from the original iteration, such as Bomb Defusal and Hostage Rescue.
Goodell address [sic] when

blinks over 25 times (some of them literally come too fast to count) during a 15
second statement, my alarms go off.
