A
post on the RuneScape Forum from Jagex says they "are aware that
RuneScape (as well as other games) are being targeted by attacks," saying
the connectivity issues are also impacting their web services and Old School
RuneScape. Also,
CCP Tweets
that EVE Online has suffered two
recent DDoS attacks, though
they
follow-up saying service was restored, and apparently their
current
downtime is for extended maintenance. According to
Develop it is "suggested" that League of Legends and Guild Wars 2
have also suffered recent attacks, but they don't say who has suggested this,
though
this reddit thread backs this up.
Phil Fish has quit gaming again, reports
CraveOnline, saying the Fex developer has put his company and the Fez
brand up for sale. They say this came after Polytron's website and Twitter
account were compromised resulting in the public posting of passwords, email
addresses, and PayPal information. This was originally reported as the act of
4Chan's /v/ channel, but a subsequent follow-up casts doubt on that conclusion.
The Polytron website currently
displays a maintenance message, and their
Twitter account is suspended at this time. This is not Mr. Fish's first such
conflict, as he famously cancelled Fez II a year
ago, at the time saying he was "doing it to get out of games." He also
deleted his personal Twitter account
two months ago
after making some comments about the monetization of YouTube "let's play"
videos.
Forbes - The Truth About Video Game Journalism.
We don’t want a war. We want to report the news, share our opinions and
have fun playing games. Ideally, we’d like to do so without being insulted
and threatened, or asked to insult and threaten others. That’s the big scary
truth of games journalism, and anyone who thinks otherwise is picking a
fight with an imaginary enemy.

Publisher Devolver Digital announces A Fistful of Gun, a top-down western
shooter in development at FarmerGnome for release for Windows in the spring of
next year (if there's a sequel, it'd better be called For a Few Gun More). The Steam page
for the game is already live, and word is the game will be playable at PAX
Prime, which kicks off one week from today. Here's
an old video showing
off the original freeware version of this, and here's word on the game's humble
origins: Originally roaming the open range of the internet as a freeware
project, A Fistful of Gun has sauntered back into town as an epic tale of
vengeance set against a brilliantly colorful American frontier full of dangerous
cutthroats. Select one of 11 unique playable gunslingers and seek revenge as a
lone wolf or with up to eight other bandits in local and online co-op. Master
the specialized controls of each character, collect gold from fallen foes to
purchase upgrades, and imbibe a bit of liquid courage and unleash a tornado of
lead across the dusty plains.
“A Fistful of Gun is awesome and easily the second best western game ever made,”
said Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker. “Red Dead Redemption is still the best
though. That game was incredible.”
Chaos Interactive announces Seldon
Crisis, a science fiction MMORPG expected to reach the beta stage next
year (a Kickstarter for this should kick off next month). Those familiar with
classic sci-fi literature will recognize this term from Isaac Asimov's
Foundation series, and sure enough they say the game is based on an original
story based on the books.
This trailer from last month shows off a spacecraft named "Hari Seldon"
after the seminal psychohistorian, and here's part of the announcement: Seldon
Crisis is a completely player-driven MMO. The game’s economy, politics and even
the infrastructure will be in the hands of the players who are not bound by
preset paths and forced linear progression. Players can earn money and increase
their character level by crafting and trading goods between the many sectors of
the galaxy and its stations, hunting pirates and collecting loot and bounty, or
fighting other players for their equipment and cargo.
In Seldon Crisis, players also will discover an extensive variety of missions,
such as combat, escort, courier and exploration, with various combinations of
each. Factions in each sector – hostile, friendly or neutral – offer work for
adventurous captains while the vast depths of space offer hidden missions and
uncharted territories to discover.
Seldon Crisis takes full advantage of an immense and beautiful galaxy where
thousands of star systems, planets, moons, nebulas, wormholes and asteroid
fields are waiting to be explored and exploited, with each sector of the
universe offering a unique variety of resources and procedurally generated
content. Continue here to read the full story.
Vector Thrust is now available
on Steam as an early
access release, though this early access is a bit late, as the game
was announced for release in Q2 of this
year. This alpha version of the arcade aerial combat game carries a 10% discount
and this new trailer
shows off gameplay and its cel shaded visuals. Word is: "Vector Thrust embraces
many Steam features even at this early stage, with over 125 Achievements, Stats,
Leaderboards, Controller Support and a level editor." Continue here to read the full story.
The
Ubisoft Forums have patch notes for a new patch for Watch Dogs that's
now live in North America and coming next week to the third-person phoner in
Europe (thanks
VG247). The new version adds replay options and drinking games to the solo
campaign, and multiplayer improvements including the optional ability to hack
your friends and punishment for bad actors: Multiplayer Added Features
- HACK YOUR FRIENDS – You can now select
available friends via the grid and hack or tail them without their
knowledge. This can be disabled under online options. – (ALL PLATFORMS)
- CTOS MOBILE – Mobile players disconnecting
will no longer result in the gameplay ending for the console/PC player.
Console and PC players will play their match to the end and receive some
Notoriety points for doing so. – (ALL PLATFORMS)
- MULTIPLAYER BAD BEHAVIOR – Players who are
frequently disconnecting from multiplayer matches will be pooled together
and paired only against players with similar online behaviors. – (ALL
PLATFORMS)
If you’re playing against someone else who disconnects unfairly, you will get
the same amount of Notoriety as if you had won at that moment.
The disconnector will not receive any Notoriety.

It has been decided, and
ESPN's Pigskin Pick'em will be the home to our NFL picking this year, and from the
discussion yesterday, it sounds
like we may have a second such league to compete for the best record versus the
point spread. It's all for fun, and anyone should feel free to participate, so don't hesitate even if you plan on picking by
uniform colors.
