Atari announces Alone in the Dark: Illumination and
Haunted House,
calling these "re-imagined versions of two classic titles" coming to Windows PCs
this autumn. These will both actually be re-reboots as a return to the
survival/horror of Alone in the Dark
was
released in 2008 and there was a new Haunted House game
in 2010. They are not revealing details
yet, but they say both games will be among their showings at PAX Prime at the
end of the month. They are also offering newsletter signups on the
Haunted House website which says
"Dreampainters" in the title bar and on the
Alone in
the Dark: Illumination website which, perhaps more illuminatingly, has a
title bar caption saying "Pure FPS," suggesting a shooter focus.

HB Studios announces
The Golf Club
is now available through both
Steam and
Xbox One, saying the PlayStation 4 version should be ready to tee off soon.
Here's word on this sports simulation and its included course editor:
The
Golf Club is a fully featured golfing experience where users can play
against friends’ and rivals’ best rounds in turn-based/asynchronous competition
modes enhanced by cloud-based technology. The game supports Tours & Tournaments,
stroke play, match play, and 4-ball.
The Golf Club’s Greg Norman Course Designer allows players to
build an unlimited number of golf courses, which can then be shared and played
with friends online. New courses can be generated in a matter of seconds by
selecting a theme, terrain features, and number of holes. Players can then enjoy
a full suite of editing tools from changing the time of day to placing hazards
and objects to create the ultimate golf challenge. Players can also discover new
courses built by friends and the community by filtering through rank and
difficulty, as well as interact with new members of The Golf Club through the
Message Center.
Epic Games now offers downloads of a playable pre-alpha build of their
Unreal
Tournament revival for registered users of their forums (thanks
BeyondUnreal).
They go to great lengths to stress this is a preliminary release fraught with
bugs and placeholders, and that it is intended to inspired feedback from those
interested in helping shape the multiplayer first-person shooter. The
Unreal Tournament website explains:
The forum post describing how to
install the UT pre-alpha playable build is only visible to signed in forum
members in the Top Secret Members Only forum. Unreal Tournament is still very
early in development, so the build is incomplete, buggy, full of placeholder art
and therefore is not in any way representative of the ultimate vision for the
game. You really shouldn't play it now! We’ve made it available to Unreal
Tournament forum members so they can try the game out and offer constructive
feedback on these forums, or maybe even jump in and start contributing.

One Angry Gamer - The Sims 4 Review Copies Being Withheld Until After
Release Spells A PR Disaster.
EA doesn’t need to win, though. The smart thing to do is to NOT buy the
game until you can read or watch reviews from sources you trust. Avoid the
pre-order gimmicks and don’t buy into any digital bonus deals until you know
for certain the game is worth the price of entry.
Crytek co-founder Avni Yerli discussed the damage the company's
recent financial woes did to its reputation,
explaining
to MCV that a longer and more expensive than anticipated "transition to an
online company" was the root of the problems. He says they now have a framework
in place for the next couple of years, and says they can restore their good name
with some good games. "I am sure it has damaged our reputation, but for Crytek
it is about focusing on our core competency, which is making really high quality
games," Yerli explains. "When we deliver those games we will hopefully be back
on track, and people will see Crytek in the way that it deserves to be seen."
A
new official trailer
from
Divinia Chronicles: Relics of Gan-Ti, an action/RPG in the works at
Chinese German
developer TeamMonkey. They just changed the name of the game after learning that
their previous planned title
Saga of Pandoria could be confused with two other
games,
Mists of Pandaria and
Pandora Saga, causing many to assume this is also
an MMORPG. The trailer shows off their recently reworked core gameplay mechanics
and the game's Source-engine graphics. The plan is to release this for early
access before the end of the year.

I got a huge surprise automatic bill from DirecTV with an early termination fee,
in spite of already establishing I would not be hit with one. I had to call and
clear up the error, which they were going to be far more relaxed about remedying
than they were about causing, so I crabbed until they got a sense of urgency
clearing this up. It makes me feel cynical to suspect they may have been just
hoping I wouldn't notice, but it does strike me that companies seem much more
prone to making financial errors that favor them than ones that favor us.
