Archived News:
Publisher Gun Media and developer Mighty Rabbit Studios announce Breach &
Clear: Deadline, a tactical action sequel coming to Windows, Linux, and OS X
as an early access release this autumn. There's not much to see yet at the
Breach & Clear: Deadline website,
but we have
some screenshots and an announcement with details to explain how this differs from the
original Breach & Clear, which was primarily a mobile title. Here's word: Hitting Steam Early Access for PC, Linux and Mac this fall for
$19.99, Breach & Clear: DEADline adds real-time strategy elements to the
tactical combat action fans loved from the original, and mixes up a radical
array of enemy types to test combat skills to the limit. As the commander of an
elite Special Forces squad, players will venture far into the sprawling urban
expanse of Harbor City to uncover the source of the infectious parasitic worms
turning average citizens into horrifying monsters.
Breach & Clear: DEADline gives players full control over their entire squad,
allowing them to issue orders to squadmates via the all-new Command Mode
feature, allowing for greater on-the-fly decision making during enemy
encounters. A variety of combat scenarios emphasizes the need for different
approaches to survive the chaos. Plan and execute detailed strategies in
dynamically generated situations to overcome enemies, move through the open
world, and get closer to the source of the nefarious worm.
Gain experience, level up the squad’s core and tactical abilities, and take on
numerous side quests in order to gain rare ammo, weapons and gear. Get in, clear
the area and get closer to solving the mystery of the spreading sickness or die
trying.

Comic-Con 2014 teaser trailer shows off Falling Skies: The Game, the
upcoming Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 tactical RPG tie-in with TNT's
sci-fi series. Here's word on the game from the
Little Orbit
website: Based on Falling Skies, the popular TNT sci-fi series,
Falling Skies: The Game is set in a
world devastated by Espheni aliens. Following the destruction of an Espheni
tower at the end of season 3, the 2nd Mass stumble across the wreckage of an
ambushed convoy. Among the survivors is an engineer who claims he can create a
powerful weapon that may level the playing field in the fight against the
Espheni invaders, but it will require the 2nd Mass to undertake several risky
operations to collect all the components. What seems at first to be a routine
salvage mission quickly becomes a battle for mankind’s very existence. Continue here to read the full story.
Developer RedBedlam announces Steam early access to Bedlam will begin
on August 8th, which we read as a setback, since the first-person shooter
was announced for full release in August, a
milestone which is now scheduled for autumn. They say the early access version
includes 12 levels of gameplay representing about a third of the entire game.
Here's word on this project's meta-game theme and how it departs from the novel
upon which it is based: In Bedlam, players will take on the role of
Heather Quinn (aka Athena), a programmer at medical scanning developer
Neurosphere who finds herself transported into the world of Starfire: a nineties
FPS she remembers from her teen years. Searching for an explanation and a way
home, she ventures beyond Starfire to discover a vast realm of interconnected
game worlds documenting the evolution of the FPS genre and of video games in
general.
Bedlam is adapted from the novel by Christopher Brookmyre, but diverges from the
original in this change of protagonist. The novel’s hero, Ross Baker, does
feature prominently in the game, but the switch to a female lead – who is a
gamer and sci-fi fan – offered a fresh and bitingly humorous new perspective
upon the “gameverse” that the player will explore.
The
Bethesda Blog has all you need to know about the imminent European
megaserver migration for The
Elder Scrolls Online. Word is: We know many of you have been looking
forward to the migration, and we’re ready to share the specifics. The European
megaserver migration will begin at 8:00AM EDT (1:00PM BST) on July 29th, and we
anticipate that the process will be complete by 5:00PM EDT (10:00PM BST). During
the migration, the European megaserver will be unavailable, but the North
American megaserver, account site, and forums will not be affected.
If you have questions about the process, we’ve got you covered. Here are a few
common ones. If you don’t see your question here, make sure to check out our
knowledge base.
Stained forum post from the developers explains why they are reneging on
their commitment to give Steam keys for
Stained to those who
purchased the game through the
Indie Royale Debut 3 Bundle
(thanks nin via
Joystiq). The story includes the explanation that they only sold around 300
copies of the game, earning them a total of around $3,000.00. Here's a
bit: This may come as a shock to you guys, but we have decided not to
distribute the keys any more to the IR bundle purchaser. The game is not selling
at all and there is no hope. I think we are already doomed so we are abandoning
the process of distributing the keys. We will continue to do what is required to
make the living and provide support to game related questions twice a week. If
you really love this game you should consider buying it on steam else I think
you already had your share of enjoyment when you purchased the game via
IR-Bundle for 50 cent.
So no need to send any emails, we are really sorry.
If you still have more questions & and really feel sad about this, Here is a
short FAQ for you.
Kasedo Games announces Crowntakers, a strategy/RPG from developer Bulwark
Games coming to Windows, OS X, Linux (they actually only specify SteamOS), and
tablets later this year. They offer
a trailer to show off
the game, and the following outline of what to expect: Dark times are
imminent: the king’s abduction throws a once peaceful land into turmoil. Being
the chosen one elected by the king himself through one of your dreams, you
embark on an adventurous journey to free him from the hands of the evil duke and
go down in history as the kingdom’s greatest hero. But time is of the essence…
Crowntakers combines turn-based strategy with RPG elements and takes you at the
behest of the crown into a medieval fantasy world full of challenging encounters
and epic adventures. With its randomly generated world, Crowntakers offers a
varied gaming experience every time you set out to fight evil. As a hero on a
mission, you’ll have to assemble a group of brave mercenaries to take on cruel
enemies like barbarians, ferocious animals or deceitful thieves. Embark on
challenging quests, gather vital resources and finally banish evil from the
world.
Features of Crowntakers
- Turn-based strategy meets RPG in a beautifully
created fantasy world
- On every game start the world is rebuilt with
different environments and encounters; encouraging players to try different
strategies
- More than 8 diverse and procedural environments
ranging from mountain passes to shadowy castles
- Hire 9 individual mercenaries to take on bandits,
wildlife and malevolent knights on a hexagonal battlefield. Utilise the
unique class skills of the archer, wizard, scout and others
- Gather resources, level-up your companions,
collect mighty equipment and craft helpful potions to survive until your
quest is complete
- Alternative endings: will you save the king before
time runs out?

Facepunch Studios announces Riftlight, an arcade-shooter with some
RPG elements such as character levels, abilities, and talent trees. The first
devblog outlines how this will work, offers some screenshots, and a video
showing the game's twin-stick style gameplay, which they say will support mouse
and keyboard. As noted on
Eurogamer, this has inspired some outrage from gamers upset that Rust is
still incomplete, as Facepunch's zombie game remains in early access. Studio head Garry
Newman responds to this in
a new
post explaining what's going on. This is pretty lengthy, as it covers a lot
of bases, so this is just an excerpt: There were a few things that kind
of irked me in the comments about Rust. A lot of people said we gave up on Rust,
and aren’t updating it anymore. Rust is getting updates
very regularly. We even set up a
twitter account that live posts when
we commit new stuff. We are very transparent about that. I fully accept that
this is our fault for not communicating the experimental branch properly, but it
hurts when we’re working all week on it and people don’t acknowledge that.
Secondly the whole funding thing. People aren’t going to like my views on this.
Some commenters have expressed their feelings that they ‘funded’ Rust and we’re
running off with the money. None of this sentence is true. We funded Rust for
1-2 years before it eventually became what it is. You bought early access to it.
When you buy a pizza you aren’t funding Dominos, you’re just buying a pizza.
It’s true that the sales of Rust have been insane and we have stepped up
development to suit, and I think you only have to compare the experimental
version to the live version to see that.
Thirdly – the people who work on Rust are working on Rust. They’re not working
on prototypes. That should be very obvious by the dev-blogs we post every
friday.
A new trailer is
online for NeonXSZ (pronounced Neon Excesses), an independently developed
6DOF first-person shooter set in cyberspace with a Descent-meets- Tron
feel. This has been available via
Desura for some time now (boasting a
9.5 user rating), and
now they are set to launch next month
on Steam, saying: "To
avoid the recent stigma attached to Early access, the first 30 hours of the game
are content complete and fine-tuned from eighteen months of alpha testing."
Here's a new trailer
celebrating the news and showing off some of the game's gadgets, and here's a
feature list:
- NeonXSZ recaptures the speed and responsiveness of old-school shooters
like Quake and Unreal Tournament.
- The player gets to loot and fly dozens of ships and over 850+ upgrades.
- Openworld gameplay filled with approximately one thousand AI dudes free
to travel anywhere, from four warring factions.
- Enemies drop parts of their hulls, weapons, and installed upgrades - not
random loot.
- If you see it, you can loot it and use it.
- The game is never the same twice.

As usual, GFK Chart-Track offers game sales statistics for last week in the U.K.
All 20 titles on the
PC full-price top 20 for the week ending July 26th were also on last week's
list, where The Elder Scrolls Online holds onto the number one spot. Big movers
include Diablo III jumping to number six from number 12 and Sniper Elite 3
dropping to number 11 from number six. On the
all platforms/all prices chart Watch Dogs remains top dog for the third
straight week and the sixth week altogether. Here's
their (oppressive) summary
of this week's activity: The UK heatwave continues, kids are all on
holiday and there’s not a console new release in sight.
The overall market drops 3% units/revenue over last week and that means week 30
is the second lowest (units) so far this year and the lowest for revenue.
Ubisoft’s ‘Watch Dogs’ (+3%) completes a double hat-trick of consecutive weeks
at No1 (weeks 22-24 and weeks 28-30), now just 1 week away from equalling FIFA
14’s 7 weeks at No1 this year (12 weeks at No1 since launch). The aforementioned
‘FIFA 14’ from EA remains at No2 (+5%), Microsoft’s ‘Minecraft 360 Edition’
climbs three places to No3 (+4%) and 505 Games’ ‘Sniper Elite 3’ climbs one
place to No4 (-6%).
The weeks big climber is Warner’s ‘The Lego Movie Videogame’ (+41%), climbing 7
places to No5 and benefitting from the campaign surrounding the launch this week
of the movie on DVD/Blu-ray (out Monday 21st July). Sony’s ‘Minecraft PS3
Edition’ is now at No6 (-3%) and has climbed one place every week for the last 4
weeks. Elsewhere in the Top 40 EA’s ‘Skate 3’ (No25 / +17%) continues a
remarkable return to the Top 40 (now stretching back 17 consecutive weeks) – the
last time this title graced the Top 40 was almost 2 years ago and the game
itself dates back to 2010. EA also have the highest re-entry at No31 with ‘Need
for Speed: Rivals’ (+44%), benefitting from some price promotion
activity.
A new trailer has
appeared with about 36 minutes of gameplay footage from Rainbow Six Siege,
Ubisoft's upcoming first-person shooter. This depicts a multiplayer mission,
including game sounds and voice chat. Thanks

A Facebook
post by the author of the iCEnhancer
mod for Grand Theft Auto IV says the recently released
version 3.0 will be his last such effort for some time, reacting to complaints
about the mod and accusations of code theft, saying: "I'm going to release the
installer and downgrader then i'm done for a while. Thanks to the people who
supported me and stuff, you guys are cool. No thanks for the guys trying to
bring me down constantly." Responding to
reports he had quit the mod scene, he made
another post
to clarify: "Ummm... To answer some of you, I never said I'll stop modding
because of some haters. I'm just taking a break that I really need from all of
this GTA world a little..."
The Gunnar-man and I both survived his bath yesterday, mostly. He's actually
very cooperative about bathing, considering how little practice he has, but at
one point he did manage to clunk me in the face with his head, which bent the
crap out of one of those little nose pieces on my glasses. I got them back in
working order, but I tried to be careful, because those little wires are
delicate, so I plan on stopping by the eye doctor to get these fixed properly.
R.I.P.:
'El Mariachi' star Peter Marquardt dead at 50. Also worked on some video
games including Deus Ex and Wing Commander IV.
