Steam now offers a
GRID Autosport Boost Pack, a $2.99 upgrade that speeds progression through the
racing game. Word is: "Download the Boost Pack and accelerate your GRID Autosport progression in career mode and online. Gain a boost of approximately
50% more XP in career mode and around 50% more XP, Vehicle XP and in-game Cash
when you race online." A
NeoGAF forum post purportedly from a Codemasters community manager reacts to
the hue and cry over the cynicism this represents with refreshing honesty.
"Regarding the boost pack we did similar with GRID 2 as a car unlock, we got a
bit of flak from that but in all honesty and without any PR bull sh*t...it
sells. There is a silent subset of players that do like that sort of content but
whether or not it's here to stay is something the industry is yet to work out,"
reads part of the comment. "I can't really say anything else, the only response
I have for you is the total truth. I don't want to spin it or anything like
that. I'll probably regret this post in the morning, but hey-ho :)" The same
post also responds to the accusation that Codemasters intentionally made the
game a grind to sell these boosters: "Under no circumstances did we make the
game a grind on purpose (that much I can promise you), in the grand scheme of
things it's still relatively easy to progress via single player and online it's
not that difficult to earn money." Thanks

There are new Linux entries for Torchlight II in the Steam database,
according to the unofficial
Steam Database website, noting there are also now Linux references in the
Torchlight entry as well.
The penguin-loving gamers at
GamingOnLinux note that a Linux version of the original Torchlight was
released as part of Humble Indie Bundle 6, but never appeared on Steam, though
these indications suggest both installments in Runic's action/RPG series are now
headed there. Thanks Ant.
Paradox Interactive has released Res Publica, a new expansion for
Europa Universalis IV, the latest installment in their grand strategy
series. They say the pack is available from the
Europa Universalis IV website
(we don't see it there as of this writing) and an update
on Steam indicates it's available from there. Here's the pitch on the
add-on, including today's Latin lesson: Res Publica, a Latin phrase
meaning “Public Affairs,” is the latest expansion to Europa Universalis IV,
gives players even more ways to rewrite history in the award-winning grand
strategy title, enhancing and improving the experience of governing with a close
eye on history. In Res Publica, dictators and diplomats will discover new means
of directing the growth of their kingdoms, and discover new tricks to keep their
nation stable – or crumble their enemies’ support.

The Battlefield Blog outlines 10 specific changes coming to Battlefield
Hardline based on feedback from the recent beta testing of the upcoming
shooter sequel. They continue to solicit feedback, and say: "We are doing our
best to create an awesome MP experience, and in coming days we are revealing a
ton of new multiplayer details including information on maps, modes, guns,
gadgets and our single player campaign." Saying they "have a lot of other
awesome changes underway and will be sharing more soon," as they share the
following plans:
- REDUCING FREQUENCY OF EXPLOSIVES
We have heard your complaints about breaking the cops and robbers experience
with the amount of heavy explosive weaponry available – but we didn’t want
to sacrifice fun! We’ve made changes to reduce the frequency of explosive
use to focus on the core gameplay, and we’ve made the use of explosives much
more believable now.
- REBALANCING AND RENAMING THE MECHANIC CLASS
We’ve made the class better in more situations – without sacrificing his
ability to take down a vehicle. We’re also looking at renaming it – post
your favourite suggestions in the comments!
- REVISITING THE IN-GAME HUD
We’re working on establishing a clearer visual difference from BF4 and
improving the messaging of the in-game HUD, from objectives to player status
information.
- REVISITING THE CUSTOMIZE SCREEN
We’ve taken a new pass at how the customize screen is laid out, and are
making it clearer and easier to manage your gear and weapon attachments.
This should address the majority of issues reported.
