There's a
10 for the Chairman Episode on the Roberts Space Industries with more on
Star Citizen, RSI's upcoming space combat game. This comes as the counter on
the main page rolls over, showing the game has now passed the $48 million dollar
mark in crowd-sourced funding. There's a new
Letter from the Chairman commemorating that occasion and the new stretch
goal it triggers of a new Retaliator commercial. He also outlines their return
to their "tradition of stretch goals that improve the core game" risking the
possibility of an infinity development cycle if they keep collecting money: As
we promised last time, we’re going to return to our tradition of stretch goals
that improve the core game. The ongoing funding keeps the project running on the
scale it is today… but we’re also eager to find ways to improve what we’ve
already planned. We’ve come up with one for the $50 million goal that we think
will truly improve the immersion, and help make Star Citizen a living, breathing
world:
- Alien Languages – Do you speak Banu? We
will work with real-world linguists to create distinctive and realistic
alien languages for Star Citizen’s three biggest alien races, the Vanduul,
the Xi’An and the Banu. No universal translators, no garbled animal noises:
Star Citizen’s aliens will be speaking their own authentic languages!
I’m excited about this one… and looking forward to meeting the first fan who
learns to speak one of our languages! As always, thank you for your support.
Star Citizen would not exist without our backers. Keep spreading the
word!
The
Arma III website announces the release of a new "Bootcamp" update for
Arma
III, Bohemia Interactive's military shooter sequel. They show off the free
update in this new trailer,
and here's word on what this provides: Bohemia Interactive today released
Arma 3 Bootcamp – a major new update for Arma 3, which delivers additional
single- and multiplayer tutorials, a Virtual Reality training environment, a
character- equipment- and weapons-viewer called Virtual Arsenal, refinements to
the fatigue and weapon sway game mechanics, plus the anticipated Addon
integration for Arma 3’s Steam Workshop. Continue here to read the full story.
A two week old post on the
Terraria Online forums has word on plans to update the 2D sandbox RPG,
including the possibility of Steam achievements and an OS X port (thanks Ant
via
GamingOnLinux/ Linux
Today). To manage expectations, they note they are not definitively
promising either of these, in case something goes wrong, but a later post asking
about Linux support adds this to the list of things they are working on, with
the Creative Director Cenx saying: "Once he is done with the mac port he will be
looking at Linux." As for when, they say there is not even a suggestion of a
release date at this point. Here is the list of what's in the works, where the
last item points to a screenshot of the game running under OS X: It has
been a while since we gave any update on the things we have been working on so I
felt it was a good time to get you guys up to speed on things! I will try and
keep it short and to the point...
- As many of you know we have been working on a new
forum as well as a revamped website for Terraria! Crowno and Skiphs have
done an amazing job with both of these things! The website is done and the
forums are getting very close! We anticipate it being done within the next 2
months. (Trying to throw out a safe timeline.)
- Yoraiz0r has started looking into Steamworks to
get achievements added to the game. Once he has added the first one
successfully this will be put on hold until the end of the update. This will
give us time to think of the achievements we want and get all the assets
needed for them. *There is always a chance for disaster so this is not me
making a promise for achievements!*
- All of the assets are done for one of the new
events and most of the tedious programming has been finished. All that is
left for this is programming the boss, setting values, and setting the
drops.
- Crowno made a pretty awesome concept for the Lunar
Boss that we are going to go with rather than using the falling moon idea.
- Oh and Skiphs has been working on this for the
last few days...
The
Kerbal Space Program blog offers a first look at the upcoming First Contract
update for Kerbal Space Program which is the first stage of the career mode for
the high flying spaceflight sim. This consists of a
video playthrough
showing the new features this adds and how careers will work, saying this is
scripted for now, but will eventually be procedurally generated. In another bit
of news for those interested in the game, the narrator explains that the video
is shot using the new 64-bit executable they've been working on. There is no
word at this time when they expect either First Contract or the 64-bit version to be released. Thanks

PAYDAY 2 game director David Goldfarb has departed Overkill Studios, reports
Polygon, saying he's abandoning AAA development (admitting PAYDAY 2 wasn't a
AAA title, though it had AAA sales). He also will not be following recent
trends: "No MOBAs, no comic book styled art, no pixel art. Like, those are
things I will not do," he states. "And there's nothing wrong with those things,
those things are all awesome, I just don't want to do any of them. His startup
studio currently consists of four developers who are still working on concepts.
"I love role-playing games," he notes. "So I will probably make one."
Capcom Unity announces plans for one more patch for the Windows edition of
Lost Planet 3, their shooter sequel. The patch should come within days to
address a specific problem, but in the meantime they also offer a workaround: Following
up on last week's Lost Planet 3 update for PC, we have one additional update for
you LPers.
It has come to our attention that first-time purchasers of Lost Planet 3 are
experiencing issues saving the CAMPAIGN data; MULTIPLAYER and settings data is
unaffected. An additional issue in which HD movies are not played back when
installed has been found. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and are
currently working on providing an update within the next few days. In the
meantime CAMPAIGN data can be correctly saved by following the steps illustrated
below.
1. Open the file path \UserProfile\Documents\My
Games\LostPlanetGame\LostPlanetGame (UserProfile is PC dependent)
2. Create a folder named "SaveData" without the quotes inside of the
"LostPlanetGame" folder opened in step 1.
3. Start the CAMPAIGN mode to successfully save data.
The Battlefield Twitch channel
now has a trailer showing off gameplay from the upcoming Dragon's Teeth
expansion for Battlefield 4, DICE's military shooter sequel. Word from the
Battlefield Blog is: "Tune in to catch the first public reveal of all four
new maps available in Dragon’s Teeth – Lumphini Garden, Peark Market, Propaganda
and Sunken Dragon. During the program, the new Chain Link mode and a variety of
new weapons will be showcased… and utilized to disable the opposing forces."
A new video celebrates
Bastille Day with a look at gameplay from Assassin's Creed Unity, the next installment in Ubisoft's
stealthy assassination series. The clip doesn't have a specific description, but
it does come with this pitch for the game: "Experience completely redesigned
gameplay in Assassin’s Creed Unity including, a reinvented combat system,
enhanced stealth techniques, and brand new parkour mechanics. Make History and
leave your mark on the French Revolution." Continue here to read the full story.
We are West Games. A studio made up of senior ex-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developers. Our
names are Alexey Sytyanov and Eugene Kim. Ask us Anything is a Reddit AMA
with the developers of Areal, the proposed
planned S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-style
shooter that's drawn
questions about whether
developer West Games is overpromising what they can deliver and whether the
assets they are presenting are legitimate. This turned out oddly, as, in spite
of the "ask me anything" theme,
the developers did not
seem willing to address many of the tough questions relating to the controversy
that the redditors presented. Thanks nin.
Those interested in Camelot Unchained might want to attend the
Twitch livestream today at
10:00 am EDT, where Mark Jacobs and the developers at City State Games will be
playing a pre-alpha version of this upcoming MMORPG. Getting the full experience
may require cashing in some sick days or vacation time, as they have four days
of streaming festivities planned, outlined in
this schedule. Thanks muscleNUTS_101st.
The
Archlord 2 website announces the release of the
soundtrack of the
MMORPG as a free download. The score was composed by
Cris Velasco (God of War and
Mass Effect 3), and they also offer
an interview with Cris about his work. If listening to this inspires you,
they are also soliciting suggestions for titles for the individual songs in the
soundtrack
Battlefield 4 fights its way back to the top spot on the
new U.K. Top 20 PC Entertainment chart published by GfK Chart Track for the
week ending July 12th, while Football Manager 2014 falls off the chart
entirely after being number one last week, which can probably be chalked up to
how the World Cup played out. Watch out for Watch Dogs on the
all platforms chart, as the open-world action game returns to number one,
while Sniper Elite III drops to number two. Here's a rundown: After 3
weeks at No2 ‘Watch Dogs’ (-18%) returns to top spot claiming its 4th No1 crown.
With almost no new releases this week familiar faces shuffle around the Top 10.
‘Sniper Elite 3’ (-53%) drops down to No2 holding off ‘FIFA 14’ (-3%) which is
less than 100 sales behind. ‘Wolfenstein: The New Order’ (+6%) climbs a place to
No4 thanks to retail promotions. The PS4 version is the biggest beneficiary with
an increase of just over 19% on last week.
EA’s ‘Titanfall’ (-15%) slips down to No5 just ahead of ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’
(+3%) which is static at No6. Both ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (+0%) and
‘Minecraft: PS3 Edition’ (-3%) move up to No7 and No8 respectively. Nintendo’s
‘Tomodachi Life’ (-5%) for 3DS moves into its highest position since its launch
six weeks ago at No9. After a seven week absence ‘Battlefield 4’ (+21%) moves
back in to the Top 10 another title to benefit from price promotions in this
week’s chart.
Congrats to Germany on winning the World Cup... It was pretty funny that after
speculation about a high-scoring game after Germany's seven-goal outburst versus
Brazil that the game was still tied 0-0 after most of extra time. In my short
time watching the sport I've grown to accustomed to its low-scoring ways, and
all jokes about boredom aside, like baseball, a 1-0 final seems a perfect score
for that sport.
