C&C: Online is now up and running as a way
to maintain multiplayer support for the Command & Conquer series after Glu
Mobile
cut and ran on GameSpy
services (thanks
Ant). Here's word
C&C:Online is a community-made- and
managed online server for Generals, Zero Hour, C&C 3, Kane's Wrath, and Red
Alert 3, allowing you to log in and continue playing online just like you could
when GameSpy's servers were still online.
Playing on our server is absolutely free, but donations to our server are always
welcome and needed. Your donations go directly towards server maintenance and
improvements to the C&C:Online infrastructure.
A post from the other day on the
UbiBlog notes
that Ubisoft Quebec will be the lead development studio on the next
Assassin's Creed game, after having assisted Ubisoft Montreal with prior
installments in the stealth/action series (thanks
HARDOCP/
Joystiq).
The article includes details on their investment in a new workspace to support
the studio, as well word on how many developers are being recruited for the
project. There's not much on the game, though they do draw attention to the
studio's bona fides:
Of course, Ubisoft Quebec is no stranger to
Assassin’s Creed. They’ve been part of the Ubisoft’s brotherhood of developers
since, well… Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. “Since 2010, our understanding of the
franchise has increased each year,” says Nicolas Rioux, Managing Director of
Ubisoft Quebec. “We were involved in Brotherhood. We were involved in
Revelations. We were involved in Assassin’s Creed III. With AC III we were
working on the biggest DLC for the franchise – The Tyranny of King Washington.
After that we were also involved with Freedom Cry. We have the confidence of the
brand team and also from Ubisoft to take leadership of an upcoming Assassin’s
Creed title. The team is ready for the next big step.”
Here's Valve's accounting of the bestselling games on
Steam last week:
- Divinity: Original Sin
- Wolfenstein: The New Order
- PAYDAY 2
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
- DayZ
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition
- Dark Souls II
- Sid Meier's Civilization V The Complete Edition
- Borderlands 2 Game of the Year Edition
- Space Engineers
Had another quiet evening last night, or at least it seemed that way. I guess
it's true that I'd grown oversensitive to fireworks myself based on Hudson the
wonder dog's anxiety, because watching the Gunnar-man sleep through the
explosions is such a relief. We also had another episode of super-cheap steak
dinner thanks to the manager's special at the supermarket, where humanely raised
skirt steaks were on sale. Skirts are great on the grill with all that fat, and
these turned out terrific. The weird thing is they weren't about to expire, so
it's hard to see why they were marked down, but since they were dated to sell by
the 14th, we picked up a couple more. They were priced at $3.99 lb, so each
steak was about $2.25. I was looking for the price comparison, and was surprised
to find there's actually a
Big Mac index on The
Economist (not that it's updated that frequently), which says "the average
price of a Big Mac in America in January 2014 was $4.62." I'll take the skirt
steak, thank you.
