A new
Roberts Space Industries Letter from the Chairman celebrates Star Citizen
passing the $47 million crowdfunding mark (thanks MammonLord). Chairman Roberts
describes the Engine Tuning Kit this unlocks and the outcome of the vote over
whether to continue with further stretch rewards: Speaking of stretch
goals, last time around we put their future up to a vote. 54% of Citizens voted
that we should continue to offer goals, and we’re going to honor that choice. As
I said last time, every dollar supports Star Citizen’s persistent universe… but
I’m not comfortable promising additional features with each million unless
they’re truly additive. When we have a new idea that really impacts the final
game and needs the funding then we’ll offer it here… but you can expect a number
of player rewards and new ways of highlighting Arena Commander as immediate
goals!
But with the $49 million goal, we’re going to give you something that didn’t
quite win the poll the last time around: the “space plant”! It’s actually a
Xi’An tree, so it’s very appropriate for today’s post. Here are the details:
- Xi’An Space Plant – Similar to a bonsai
tree, the Centennial Bloom is a very famous Xi’An plant indigenous to Eealus
III that blossoms for one night every one hundred years. They sell the
plants in sealed terrariums to traders. Ever since their introduction to the
UEE, Humanity has been fascinated by these beautiful plants and the wait for
them to bloom.
As always, thank you for your incredible support. We’re working hard to make
Star Citizen a truly special game… but you have already made it an incredibly
special community.
Eurogamer has comments from Crytek responding to
recent allegations they are in
serious financial trouble, denying they are flirting with bankruptcy. Here's
what they say: Regardless of what some media are reporting, mostly based
on a recent article published by GameStar, the information in those reports and
in the GameStar article itself are rumors which Crytek deny.
We continue to focus on the development and publishing of our upcoming titles
Homefront: The Revolution, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, Arena of Fate, and
Warface, as well as providing ongoing support for our CryEngine and its
licensees.
We have received a lot of positive feedback during and after E3 from both gaming
press and gamers, and would like to thank our loyal employees, fans and business
partners for their continuous support
Steam News announces the
release of Company of
Heroes 2 - The Western Front Armies, a standalone multiplayer game based
on Company of Heroes 2, the World War II RTS game. Here's how this
works: Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies is the first
Standalone Multiplayer release for Company of Heroes 2. The focus shifts back to
the Western Front, depicting some of the most brutal fighting of World War II in
the darkest days of the conflict. The addition of the US Forces and the German
Oberkommando West brings two entirely unique factions that will forever change
the shape of multiplayer combat.
Each Army has distinctive tactical gameplay options, new infantry, team weapons,
vehicles, abilities and upgrades on a total of eight seasonal multiplayer maps
set on the Western Front. The Western Front Armies also includes an extended
progression system that introduces other unique content into the game and
enables players to dive deeper into the tactical and strategic aspects of the
game than ever before.
The Western Front Armies will be available as a stand-alone package that
represents an entry point into the franchise and access to the vibrant Company
of Heroes 2 community. New players can also access 23 existing Company of Heroes
2 maps in auto-match, and play against all other existing factions.

Ubisoft announces The Settlers - Kingdoms of Anteria, a new installment in
the long-running building simulation series in the works at their Blue Byte studio for
release sometime this year. They indicate this marks a change in direction for
the franchise, though they aren't forthcoming about why they say so. "By
reinventing our approach to the franchise, The Settlers - Kingdoms of Anteria
offers players a brand new experience full of new possibilities to explore,"
said Christopher Schmitz, Director of Product Development at Blue Byte. "Without
a doubt, this is the most innovative Settlers’ game we have ever created."
Presumably we'll hear more about this along the way, and you can sign up to keep informed through
The Settlers website, where they also
offer an announcement trailer
with some cinematics. Continue here to read the full story.

Ubisoft plans on releasing the PC edition of Assassin's Creed Unity
simultaneously with the console editions of the stealth/action sequel, but that
was their plan at some point for the previous installments in the series, it
just never works out that way.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun reminded producer Lesley Phord-Toy of this in asking
whether history will repeat itself, or if they are actually going to manage a
multi-platform launch this time. She explains past problems as being caused by
the challenges of the various PC configurations to be supported, but feels there
is more reason for optimism this time: "Like I said, Ubi has been very
successful at achieving same-ship in the recent past, so we’re very confident
that we’ll be able to do the same for Assassin’s Creed Unity."
The new
top 20 full-priced PC game chart from GFK Chart-Track shows the bestsellers
in the U.K. for the week ending June 21st. The top three titles shuffled this
week, with Football Manager 2014 ending up at number one. On the
all platforms/all prices chart for the same period, EA Sports UFC debuts at
number one, which drops Watch Dogs to the number two spot. Here's
the write-up:
The three week reign of Ubisoft’s record breaking IP ‘Watch Dogs’ is over
as ‘EA Sports UFC’ takes the crown in its debut week.
For EA it represents a third No1 title in 2014 alongside FIFA 14 and Titanfall.
It’s also their first title in the UFC series following its acquisition from
former publisher THQ. ‘Watch Dogs’ (-41%) moves down to No2 while a resurgent
‘Titanfall’ (+10%) is up three places to round off the Top 3. EA claims a total
of four Top 10 titles this week with both ‘FIFA 14’ (-9%) and ‘2014: FIFA World
Cup Brazil’ (-34%) at No5 and No6. ‘Mario Kart 8’ (-30%) slips down from No4 to
No7 but stays ahead of ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (-13%) which remains at No8.
Familiar sights ‘Minecraft: PS3 Edition’ (-22%) and ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360
Edition’ (-8%) hold the No9 and No10 places.
Further down the chart ‘MotoGP 14’ makes its debut at No14. PQube’s title adds
PS4 to its roster of formats which helps boost the title to an 8.4% increase
over the week 1 sales of its predecessor exactly a year ago.
The outcome of the U.S./Portugal world cup game yesterday was insane.
Disappointing, of course, but what an amazing finish. Still, that "stoppage
time" thing is by far my least favorite part of the sport. They need to have
some sort of clock visible during the game that shows how much time is being
added to the game or something... the whole mystery of it seems so sketchy, they
really should make it more transparent.
