The
Epic Games website outlines progress on the
recently revealed revival of the
Unreal Tournament franchise (thanks
Polygon). They note the development team for the multiplayer shooter sequel
has been interacting with the community in the
UT Movement Discussion forum and
Early Movement Prototype thread, noting that users on these forums have been
playing with a prototype, and that Unreal Engine 4 subscribers are also being
given access to such prototypes. They also offer a
new video with the
first look at deathmatch from the new game, though the lack of textures shows
the early stage this represents. Here's the latest on where things stand:
Nick
and Matt were also hard at work last week on the UT weapons. Matt created a
prototype of the shock rifle and worked on shock combos. Nick created the
blueprint prototype of the Minigun and Flak Cannon. Joe Wilcox quickly found the
Minigun was a bit overpowered in the Deathmatch playtest and was nearly
unstoppable. You can join in the weapon discussion in the
UT Weapon Design forum.
Next week, our live stream will be returning and Art Director Chris Perna will
be talking about his vision for the art style in the new Unreal Tournament. He
will also be discussing the concept art the community has created and he and
Senior Artist Rick Kohler will give pointer so to artists who would like to
submit their concept art for review. You can join in the conversation in the
Skaarj Concept thread. Keep watching for a date and time for the episode!

A new trailer from
Next Car Game shows off more of the driver than Bugbear's upcoming motorsports
game. The clip shows off an elaborate Fantec steering wheel system which even
includes a handbrake for extra realism. The clip shows customization of this
setup, which is probably beyond what most gamers will use, along with custom
costumes that match the setups for an extra degree of unrealistic realism. Word
is: "We goofed off with all kinds of customizations for fun and giggles, and
ended up creating a video about it. Despite the tongue in cheek approach the
video clearly has, that’s pretty much how we roll here, and we ain’t ashamed of
it either."

Wowser... A simple conflict between a couple of neighbors over their shared
fence resulted in an actual call to the police today, and everyone is out there
right now discussing things. It's not clear what the issue is, but as Ron
Burgundy once put it, that escalated quickly. Hopefully this will all be
resolved amicably, but more important, hopefully I'll be able to pick up some
details about what actually happened.
