A tweet by
Fork Parker seems to stick a fork in the possibility that Devolver Digital
will pursue buying the IP for Blood, Monolith's cult-classic first-person
shooter, answering a question about it by saying: "Not happening." Parker had
previously indicated that strong sales of
the Shadow Warrior remake might allow them to take a stab at the Blood IP, but
he now indicates they will not be able to get blood from a stone, adding the
two-word reason in a
later tweet:
"Too expensive." Thanks Wookiestick.

Here's a new Magnum
Opus trailer, introducing Max's car from the upcoming Mad Max video game,
Avalanche Studios' not-timely tie-in with the post-apocalyptic movie series.
They say this ties in with a TV promotion creating a real-life version of the
car: "The trailer will be premiering on TV via West Coast Customs on Sunday,
April 27 at 7 p.m. PDT on FOX Sports 2, following the debut of the Magnum Opus,
Max’s in-game vehicle." The game was
announced for release this year, but the accompanying description reveals a
delay to next year, saying: Set to release in 2015, Mad Max delivers open
world gameplay in a post-apocalyptic setting where cars are the key to survival.
Developed by Avalanche Studios, gamers become Mad Max, a lone warrior who must
fight to stay alive in The Wasteland, using vicious on-ground and vehicular
combat against savage gangs of bandits. Following the theft of his iconic
Interceptor, Max must align himself with a gifted, but peculiar, mechanic named
Chumbucket and others to build the ultimate war vehicle as he works to escape
from the dangerous Wasteland. Continue here to read the full story.
There's an
Interview with Obsidian on CVG talking with Feargus Urquhart about "life
after South Park" that discusses a range of topics, including whether they are
still an RPG studio, plans for more AAA development, IPs they would enjoy
working with, and more. As noted on
Joystiq (thanks nin), Feargus also gives a sense for when they might try
their next Kickstarter campaign: We are working on what that is. I think
we've come up with what it's going to be. We have to still firm up some details,
but my hope is that we'll get one going before the end of the year.
I think we've got a good idea. I'm not going to share anything, but a few times
in my career I have these things where I say, "hey, that's a cool idea!" and
I've generally been right. So I think this one's going to be a cool
thing.

The
Really Slick Blog has word that a new version 1.1 of Retrobooster is now
available, along with a corresponding updated version 1.1 demo for the cave
flyer. The main feature of the new version is to add support for extremely
wide-screen gaming using multiple monitors. Word is: "Upon releasing
Retrobooster, the most popular request was for better support for
multiple-monitor configurations. Fixing the field-of-view issues was easy.
Fixing the glow effect so it didn’t look really stretched was a bit harder. And
updating the levels so you can’t see their edges with a wide field of view took
a decent amount of work. Here’s what it will look like now if you spread it
across three monitors." Continue here to read the full story.

The Battlefield Blog has word on DICE's
promised
efforts at addressing rubber-banding and other latency-related issues in
Battlefield 4 that followed the launch of the Naval Strike DLC for the
military shooter sequel. Word is they have rolled out some new
hardware: As you know, we’ve been looking into resolving the “rubber
banding” that some players on certain platforms have experienced with
Battlefield 4 after the recent release of Naval Strike. We’ve found that the
root cause of the issue was a configuration of certain hardware types dedicated
to 64-player matches.
We have invested in new hardware to resolve this issue and deployed new
higher-performance servers this week. In preparation, we conducted a significant
amount of testing before installing the new servers to ensure they would correct
the issue. We are already seeing performance improvement with 64-player matches
and expect this to continue.
While the process took longer than we would’ve liked, we wanted to be 100% sure
it was done right and that the long-term solution was properly in place.
Our objective is to deliver the best player experience possible. We feel this
solution helps us deliver that to you. Stay tuned to our official channels for
more information.

Where are they now? Well, here's a shout out to one of our great friends from the pioneering days of the
web, as Alex "Sharky" Ross recently
appeared on Jay Leno's
Garage to show Jay one the amazing Porches Alex's company modified. It's an amazing
looking car, and it's great to see Sharky doing so well, and hobnobbing with
celebrities no less, though it's hard to get used to
how Americanized his accent has become.
