SEGA announces an October 7th release date for
Alien: Isolation,
Creative Assembly's upcoming Alien survival/horror game for Windows, Xbox One,
PS4, Xbox 360, and PS3. "We couldn’t be happier to finally announce a date for
Alien: Isolation," said Alistair Hope, Creative Lead at Creative Assembly. "The
reaction we have seen so far has been simply incredible, from the screams and
shrieks to the cold sweats and racing hearts. It’s the Alien game that we’ve
always wanted to play and we can’t wait to let everyone get their hands on it
this fall." Here's more:
Alien: Isolation is a first-person survival
horror game capturing the fear and tension evoked by Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic
film. Players find themselves in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal
danger as an unpredictable, ruthless Xenomorph is stalking and killing deep in
the shadows. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources,
improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but
to simply stay alive.
SEGA announces plans for
Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies, a
new standalone multiplayer installment coming to their World War II strategy
series in June. They say this will be $19.99, somewhat confusingly adding: "Each
individual army will also be available as a standalone purchase for $12.99 via
digital download, providing new players with a minimal entry point into the
massive Company of Heroes 2 multiplayer community." Word is this will allow
multiplayer play with owners of the original Company of Heroes 2, as well as
fellow owners of the new release:
Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front
Armies brings players back to the Western Front first introduced in the original
award-winning Company of Heroes™. The Western Front Armies introduces two unique
collections of new content - the US Forces and the German Oberkommando West.
Each army has distinctive tactical gameplay options, new infantry, team weapons,
vehicles, abilities and upgrades on a total of eight seasonal multiplayer maps
set on the Western Front. The Western Front Armies also includes a new
progression system that introduces other unique content into the game and
enables players to dive deeper into the tactical and strategic aspects of the
game than ever before.
All Company of Heroes 2 players can then battle across 31 maps (along with more
than 1000 community maps available on Steam Workshop) in auto-match multiplayer,
regardless of what content they already own, even if they have just purchased
the new Western Front Armies.
Eurogamer has an update on what's up with
DayZ, Bohemia Interactive
Studios' survival horror game after listening to designer Dean Hall speak about
the game at EGX Rezzed. This includes a new studio in Bratislava, Slovakia
staffed by former employees of Cauldron games, as well as the following outline
of plans for the game's next update:
The next update will come by the end
of April, Hall promised, perhaps in the next two weeks if development continued
smoothly. Included will be a prototype method for allowing loot to respawn
within a server, as well as fireplaces for cooking (upgradable to ovens for
baking bread) and a crossbow.
Loot will respawn in a particular quadrant of the world after it is empty for a
certain amount of time, Hall said, so that players who join can still find
items. Doors will also reset.
On the server side, the update will allow for a speedier delivery of future
updates and improved messaging between the game's server and your PC. It'll also
remove penalties for joining the same server.
I was thinking this afternoon I could finally open Manstovia for the season
until I got a call from my Uncle last night, who wants to take us out to a late
lunch. It will be awesome to see him on an occasion besides Thanksgiving, but
also makes me suspect the fates are conspiring against my desire to do some
outdoor cooking. Oh well, the weather is changing enough that I know I'll be out
there soon enough.
