Frontier Developments has released the Elite: Dangerous Alpha 3.0 for all
backers and purchasers of Elite: Dangerous, the latest prerelease installment in
the upcoming space combat remake. As demonstrated in a
new tutorial video,
this adds docking to the game. Here's word: "After successfully proving out the
moment to moment combat gameplay, and multiplayer technology in Alpha phases one
and two respectively, phase three starts to move towards building out the game
by adding docking, an early version of hyperspace jumps between multiple
locations and ship outfitting within an iconic Coriolis space station. Once
successfully docked in the station – a notoriously difficult skill to master in
the original Elite – Elite: Dangerous Alpha phase three offers progression where
players can use their honest profit or ill-gotten gains from their in-game
actions to improve their ship." Continue here to read the full story.
Initial testing of Heroes of

Blizzard's upcoming team brawler (thanks Dirwulf via

This forum thread addresses requests for access, saying no keys are
available right now, and offering steps to avoid phishing attempts based on the
test. According to the
latest blue
Blizzard post on the topic: "We're eager to get as many people as possible
into the Nexus as soon as possible, but we don't have any news on that front at
the moment. As soon as we do, though, we'll be sure to announce it and let
everyone know."
A new gameplay trailer
shows off over 19 minutes of gameplay footage from Age of Wonders III, helping
Triumph Studios introduce the Theocrat leader class from the upcoming strategy
sequel. Word is: "Theocrats lead the masses by their hearts. They heal,
persuade, minister and convert. Their zealots are fiercely loyal, convinced that
any action they perform will earn them a greater reward in the afterlife.
Because Theocrats tend not to wield many directly offensive powers, it is
tempting to believe Theocrats pose no threat. History has proven this to be
foolishness. Many earthly kingdoms have fallen under relentless crusades where
holy armies of martyrs, evangelists, templar knights, war shrines and angelic
beings bring Armageddon to pagan lands." Continue here to read the full story.

BattleGoat Studios announces a new May 9th release date for Supreme Ruler
1936, the upcoming World War II installment in their Supreme Ruler series of
strategy games. Supreme Ruler 1936 was originally planned for release this
quarter, but while they say they are "thrilled" with the reception the game's
Early Access has met with on
Steam, they add that feedback from participants have inspired some changes.
"We love Early Access," exclaims BattleGoat's David Thompson. "The feedback from
players that have participated has been great for both testing the game and
making changes to better the gameplay experience. In the three months since we
released the Early Access, we've pushed nine updates and we expect this rate to
continue right up until our official release." Here's more: Originally
planned for release late Q1 2014, the changes and additions from player feedback
have resulted in a slight delay of the anticipated release date to May 9th 2014.
When asked further about the success of their Early Access beta, Thompson
replied, "The Early Access sales have been above expectations and this has given
us the freedom to incorporate some new ideas and to improve the historical
content of the campaigns." Supreme Ruler 1936 is BattleGoat's first
self-published title, the previous two titles were published by Paradox
Interactive. Early Access to the game is available for 25% off the release
retail price.

Infinite Crisis has gained an enthusiastic fan base and dozens of
Champions have already been revealed, offering bountiful choices to players of
all skills and styles. Continue here to read the full story.
There are details on NVIDIA's plans on
their website,
where the graphics card maker announces they will discontinue new driver support
for legacy Direct X 10-era products after April 1, 2016 (thanks
Maximum PC via
HARDOCP). Word is the upcoming 340 drivers will be the last series to
specifically support older cards such as the 9800 GTX: After Release 340,
any subsequent Windows driver release starting with Release 343 will cease to
support the products listed in this section.
The Release 340 drivers will continue to support these products until April 1,
2016, and the NVIDIA support team will continue to address driver issues for
these products in driver branches up to and including Release 340. However,
future driver enhancements and optimizations in driver releases after Release
340 will not support these products.
This video shows off

at 1920x1080 @ 60 fps on a 2nd Generation i5 PC with a Radeon 5970 using Fraps."

Happy Pi Day, as today is 3/14, an annual celebration of geekiness that
demonstrates why U.S. date notation should be adopted worldwide, at least until
someone goes all Julius Caesar on the calendar again and adds a couple of
additional months. And since it's also 3/14 written month/year-style, I guess this
falls during the once-a-century Pi Month. As always, best celebration time
should be 1:59:26. I think I'll celebrate by making some
pie. Or at least eating some.
