There's a
10 for the Chairman video on the Roberts Space Industries website
celebrating the news that crowd-sourced funding for Star Citizen has
passed the $40 million threshold. The $41 million plateau is when the
recently
announced Procedural Generation R&D Team goal will be in effect. Here's a
reminder of what that involves: "This stretch goal will allocate funding for
Cloud Imperium to develop procedural generation technology for future iterations
of Star Citizen. Advanced procedural generation will be necessary for creating
entire planets worth of exploration and development content. A special strike
team of procedural generation-oriented developers will be assembled to make this
technology a reality."

This video lets us
play fly-on-the-wall for the SXSW panel discussing Tales of the Borderlands, the
upcoming Telltale take on Gearbox's first-person role-playing shooter. The
conversation is fairly rambling and pretty darned lengthy at over 47 minutes, so
this may not be for everyone. They do present an action screenshot, and along
the way discuss how the game will be set after
Borderlands 2 and all its DLC, the story presented will be canon, and
they expect to release the first episode this year.

Here's a
Kickstarter for a turn-based strategy game called DUELYST that
developer Counterplay Games seeks $68,000 to develop for Windows, OS X, and
web-browsers. The development team boasts veterans of Blizzard Entertainment,
Insomniac Games, and Cellar Door Games, who go to pains to explain that this
will not be a pay-to-win game. Here's their pitch: "Slated for an Alpha launch
in Q4 2014, Duelyst has an expansive identify and mythology, with gorgeous
landscapes filled with rich, complex characters, untold stories and unraveled
histories. The focus is on squad-based combat on a tactical map with fast-paced
multiplayer 1v1 battles where victory comes from defeating your opponent's
General. At launch, there will be five unique factions with a roster of 100+
battle units and spells."

Publisher Unity Games and developer N-Fusion Interactive announce Space Noir,
a space combat title that's coming to Windows via Steam as well as tablets this
summer. They call this "'Deus Ex: The Fall’ meets ‘Air Mail'," blending elements
of two of N-Fusion's most recent projects that is intended as "a love letter to
fans of classic, narrative driven space combat games." Here's
a debut trailer, here
are some
screenshots, and here's word: In Space Noir, players take on the role
of bounty hunter Hal Markham as he explores space, fights in white-knuckle
combat both on- and off-world and captures intergalactic renegades with the help
of his only companion, his ship's AI - Rhonda. Players journey across five
worlds and play through over 35 intense missions, as Hal uncovers a far-reaching
conspiracy and a mysterious person who could control the future of humanity.
“Unity Games is proud to work with N-Fusion to bring the vision of Space Noir to
life”, said Oren Tversky, VP of Unity Games. “The studio has a strong
development pedigree, an impeccable eye for detail and a great overall sense of
what players look for in a game. We know that Space Noir is no exception and
look forward to bringing it to the core gaming community”.
“We’re delighted to be able to reveal Space Noir to the world” said Jeff Birns,
CEO and owner of N-Fusion Interactive. “The game is a true labor of love for us
and represents not only what we learned on Deus Ex: The Fall and Air Mail, but
also our belief in gamers’ renewed appetite for high quality, core games on PC
and Tablets.”

Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land is now available
on Steam, offering a
Lovecraftian turn-based strategy game set in the trenches of World War I, well
known for the horrors of bayonet charges, poison gas attacks, and of course,
demons of the underworld. Here are some details: The multi-award winning World War 1
strategy RPG launches today on Steam for PC. The critically acclaimed title
originally launched on mobile and PC in 2012. The title successfully passed
Steam’s Greenlight process and now arrives as a fully-fledged game on Steam. The
Steam launch includes updated graphics and the bonus DLC “Kaul's Dairy”, which
had previously only been available on iOS and is priced at $5.
The game features 14 levels set in the trenches of World War One. The player
controls a team of up to six investigators charged with uncovering a deadly
inhuman conspiracy underlying the clash of empires of the Great War. Barbed
wire, mustard gas and machine guns prove to be the least dangerous challenges
the investigators encounter as they venture into no man's land to solve the
mystery of the Wasted Land. As the game progresses, the player must build up the
team's skills, weapons and equipment to counter the rising tide of darkness. As
well as the physical danger, the investigators must guard their sanity against
myriad horrors that threaten to destroy them.
The new
GFK Chart-Track PC sales chart shows South Park: The Stick of Truth
was the number one selling PC game in the U.K. for the week ending March 8th.
Obsidian's new South ark action/RPG is also number one on the
all platforms/all prices chart. Here's the write-up of this week's results:
‘South Park: The Stick of Truth’ hands Ubisoft their first All Formats
No1 of 2014, stealing top spot from Square’s ‘Thief’ (-48%), which has to settle
for No2.
53% of South Park sales were on Xbox 360, 41% on PS3 and 6% on PC. It’s the
first RPG to debut at No1 since ‘Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch’ back in
W5 2013. Along with ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ it is the only Top 10 title
this week not to have been released on a current-gen format (PS4/Xbox One). All
Top 10 titles drop sales this week, but sales of ‘Plants Vs Zombies: Garden
Warfare’ only slip by 1%, pushing it from No4 to No3 in its second week of
release. Lego is still well represented in the All Formats Top 40 with 5 titles,
headed by ‘the Lego Movie Videogame’ (-31%) down 2 places to No4 and ‘Lego
Marvel Super Heroes’ (-24%), also down 2 places to No9. ‘FIFA 14’ (-21%) drops 2
places to No5, but hasn’t ever been outside the Top 5 since it was released 24
weeks ago.
‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (-23%) is not so lucky, falling outside the Top 5 for the
first time, down from No5 to No6. ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (-3%) is up one
place to No7, ahead of ‘Battlefield 4’ (-29%) at No8. ‘Assassin’s Creed IV:
Black Flag’ (-16%) hasn’t ever fallen outside the Top 10 and manages to hang on
this week despite a drop from No9 to No10. The only other new release to make
the All Formats Top 40 is Bandai Namco’s ‘Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures’
which debuts at No21.
The conclusion of True Detective was interesting... in the end, I don't think
that the show delivered on its promise of changing the detective show genre, nor
did it live up to some of the potential demonstrated by its early episodes. I do
think the format holds promise, however, as the idea of combining the character
development of a series with the story closure of a movie makes a lot of sense
for an eight episode series, so I hope they take run at another story in this
format next season.
