Interceptor Entertainment Acquires Apogee /3D Realms

Interceptor Entertainment CEO Frederik Schreiber took to Twitter to confirm a rumor (thanks Game Informer) that the Danish developer behind the recent Rise of the Triad remake has purchased Apogee Software/3D Realms, the old school developer/publisher of Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, Rise of the Triad, Commander Keen, and Wolfenstein 3D. Schreiber affirms the news, and promises further details tomorrow: "Yes, we have indeed acquired Apogee/3D Realms. We will be giving an official statement tomorrow."

Saga Heroes Demo

A playable demo is now available for Saga Heroes, the upcoming action/adventure RPG based on the MMORTS Saga. Saga Heroes just appeared on Kickstarter, and now the game's official website now hosts the playable demo in three different flavors, as there are Windows and Ouya demos for download, and there is also a web-based demo that can be played in a browser (they note that this does not support game controllers under Mac OS X). Details on what the demo includes are not provided.

Out of the Blue

Tonight is the annual Academy Awards ceremony, the realty TV installment in Hollywood's ongoing love affair with itself. Being an inveterate home view, I rarely get to see many of the nominees before the awards, so as usual, I have no opinion on this. If you are interested in actual expertise, there are loonyboi's picks that I linked to the other night, though even he warns that this year is unusually hard to dope out. And for the record, I did see two nominees this year, thanks to the open-minded "Best Visual Effects" category, which includes Star Trek: Into Darkness and Iron Man 3.
