Coffee Stain Studios announces plans for a real Goat Simulator game, after the
viral sensation caused by the humorous Goat Simulator video
released last week. The game will be coming to
Steam "sooner than you think," and the especially eager can preorder the game
through the Goat Simulator website.
Here's a new trailer
celebrating the news, and here's word: Goat Simulator was inspired
from old-school skating games, where, instead of being a skater, you’re a goat,
and instead of doing skating tricks, you wreck stuff. Charging into a table and
knocking it over yields points, and if you can manage to do it while doing a
backflip first and a 360 afterwards, you’ll score even more points. Continue here to read the full story.
Devolver Digital announces Broforce is coming next month to Steam Early
Access, but that the throwback "patriotism simulation" is available for
even earlier access, as the beta is up for sale on
the Humble
Store. This all leads up to the game's full release this summer, and they
note that those who buy the beta now will also get a Steam key in the future.
Here's the Broforce
February Update Trailer, and here's word: Broforce brings the shock
and awe as gamers across the globe take control of an under-funded, over-powered
paramilitary organization dealing exclusively in excessive force. Stroke your
MURDER-BONER™ with up to four friends, locally and online, in non-stop,
explosive run ‘n’ gun action and eliminate the terrorist forces that threaten
our way of life. Adapt your tactics as you select bros from a massive roster of
true 80’s and 90s action heroes, each with unique weapons and abilities. Set off
incredible chain reactions of fire, napalm and limbs in the name of freedom.
Then, as the dust settles, face off against each other in one of many
competitive modes. Finally gain closure by answering important life questions
that have been keeping you up at night: who would win in a flex-off between the
Brominator and Brobocop? Continue here to read the full story.

This website now offers The
String Arcade, a video game tribute album, which is available as a CD as well
via download. Here's the deal: "The String Arcade's 15 original arrangements
(plus 2 CD bonus tracks) were inspired by games from Galaga to Minecraft and
performed by local Bay Area musicians, with a special appearance by the
Boston-based Videri String Quartet. The eclectic track list spans decades of
video game history from stand-up arcade classics, through the 8- and 16-bit eras
and the golden age of 1990s adventures, to more recent hits, indie favorites,
and mobile/social games. To further the goal of raising money and awareness for
children's music education, several tracks were chosen from games popular among

A new trailer from
Thief is the third and final installment in a series of "Stories from The
City" clips from the stealth/action remake that's due for release in two weeks.
The clip is titled "The Thief Taker General's Hunt," as it introduces The Thief
Taker General, the commander of the Baron's Watch. Here's word: The Thief
Taker General is Commander of the Baron’s Watch; his main motive… to hunt and
hang every thief in The City and he is hell-bent on capturing the prize that he
desires most; Garrett, the Master Thief.
The Thief Taker General is corrupt to the bone, using fear to enforce an
exorbitant ‘black tax’ on members of the underworld; those who don’t pay find
themselves at the end of a noose. The Thief Taker General also runs a grisly
large-scale operation where the bodies of the victims who have died from the
mysterious sickness known as ‘The Gloom’ are collected and stripped bare,
everything of value is stolen from their cold, stiff corpses; clothes, jewellery
- even artificial limbs and gold teeth. So who is the biggest Thief in The
City? Continue here to read the full story.
The "Outbreak Will Change Everything" teaser trailer from
last week for Dying Light that badgered us by asking "Are you
prepared? Are you prepared? Are you truly prepared?" turns out to have been
a tease for another trailer,
titled "Humanity" ( oh, the
humanity!), for which we were not truly prepared after being hyped to save the date. The clip sets the scene for the
zombie game and clearly strives for some emotional pull, so perhaps the
unusually strong response to the Dead Island trailer from a
few years ago lead to them promoting this in advance in this manner. The
angle here is to recall that the zombies you will encounter in the upcoming
survival/horror game include your friends, family, and neighbors. They say:
"We’ve gotten used to killing zombies in video games over the years, but who
were these zombies before they became infected? Is there still a human inside of
them? In the ‘Humanity’ trailer, Techland aims to address the reality behind the
zombie fiction, and present a deeper vision of what a zombie epidemic would mean
for humankind." Continue here to read the full story.
The Evolve tease that popped up
over the weekend has culminated in the release of a new
Happy Hunting trailer
from the multiplayer shooter coming this fall from Turtle Rock Studios ( Left
4 Dead). On a related note, there are new previews of the game on
AusGamers;
CVG;
Joystiq;
Kotaku;
Player Attack;
Rock,
Paper, Shotgun;
Shacknews;
Strategy
Informer; and
VG247, and there's a
video interview on VG247 where Phil Robb introduces the game and a
story on Eurogamer discussing why Turtle Rock parted ways with Valve. Here's the description of the clip: 4 Hunters stalk 1 giant
Monster... but the beast lies in wait. Who is hunting who? Welcome to #4v1.
Happy hunting.
In a savage world of man vs nature, are you the hunter or the hunted? 2K and
Turtle Rock Studios bring you Evolve, the next-generation of multiplayer
shooters where four Hunters face-off against a single, player-controlled
Monster. Coming Fall/Autumn 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Continue here to read the full story.
A
new Kickstarter is underway for Darkest Dungeon a "challenging"
roguelike-like RPG in development at Red Hook Studios for Windows PCs, and
possibly other platforms. There's lots of detail on their plans, and a complete
list of stretch goals, which is helpful, since the project hit its initial
funding target of $75,000 within hours. There's a trailer
on GameTrailers showing off the game's concept and a little bit of gameplay,
and here's more on the plan: You will recruit, train, and lead a team of
flawed heroes through twisted forests, forgotten warrens, ruined crypts and
beyond. You'll battle not only unimaginable foes, but stress, famine, disease,
and the ever-encroaching dark. Uncover strange mysteries, and pit the heroes
against an array of fearsome monsters with an innovative strategic turn-based
combat system.
You will have to tend to characters’ spirits as much as you do to their Hit
Points. But in these grim situations, you'll find opportunities for true
heroism!
Darkest Dungeon is not a game where every hero wins the day with shiny armor and
a smile. It is a game about hard trade-offs, nearly certain demise, and heroic
reversals.
Grinding Gear
Games announces plans for a mini-expansion to launch on March 5th along with
a new version 1.1.0 patch for Path of
Exile, their action/RPG. This is more of a teaser, saying the name of
the expansion will be revealed on Thursday, some details will follow a week
after that, eight days later we'll see press previews and a trailer, and five
days after that the mini- expansion will launch.
Nordic Games and KING Art announce plans for The Book of Unwritten Tales 2,
a point-and-click sequel coming at the beginning of next year. They have
launched a
Kickstarter campaign looking to raise $65,000 which they say is to "develop additional on-top content
for the game." On a related note, there's already
an interview about the game on Strategy Informer. Here's word on why they
are seeking crowd-funding for an already funded game: “This is a very ambitious
project”, says Martin Kreuch, Producer at Nordic Games. “The fans have been
waiting for a new adventure in the world of Aventasia that continues the story
of BoUT 1. We have a long and very fruitful track-record working with KING Art,
which is why it is important to us to support them in any way that is needed. If
KING Art wants to try out something new, why should we be hindering them in
doing so? At first, it seemed strange to us thinking about an already funded
game being on Kickstarter, but then we were amazed about the possibility to get
direct feedback from the crowd about this additional on-top content and
features.”
Those waiting for Godot will be pleased to learn that the
Godot Engine is now available,
offering a free "fully featured, open source, MIT licensed, game engine" for
Windows, Linux, and OS X game development (thanks Ant via
Slashdot). This is in beta, and they are encouraging users to collaborate on
the future direction of the project, though they note that Godot already has "a
track-record of more than a decade of published games." Here's more: "It focuses
on having great tools, and a visual oriented workflow that can export to PC,
Mobile and Web platforms with no hassle. The editor, language and APIs are
feature rich, yet simple to learn, allowing you to become productive in a matter
of hours."
My weekly co-op Borderlands 2 game took down Handsome Jack for the second
time last night... everyone dinged to level 50 when the Warrior dropped, and a
good time was had by all. We still have a few quests to clean up, but I think
we're going to go for the whole Ultimate True Vault Hunter Mode, which is said
to be a whole new level of challenge. This seems like an appropriate time to
tip a cap to Gearbox for having provided us with so many hours of gaming enjoyment.
Not to mention all the laughs... there was a lot of standing around in Sanctuary after the boss battle, which
spurred one of my character's favorite haiku: "Bor-ed bor-ed bored / bored bored
bored bored bored bored bored / I am very bored."
