The Loadout website
announces a January 31st release date for Loadout, their upcoming
free-to-play cartoony third-person shooter. The game is currently in
Steam Early Access, where
it actually costs $9.99, but this includes a couple of in-game items as well as
6,000 of their Spacebux, which we are pleased to note, are actually called
Spacebux. "After spending the last two decades contributing to the development
of some amazing franchises, like Mass Effect, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, The Sims,
and Dragon Age, Loadout is our studio’s first original IP, and we couldn’t be
more excited to open it up to the masses," said Rob Cohen, CEO of Edge of
Reality. "We started this as a passion project, working on it when we could, and
trying to create something original and truly player friendly. What we’ve got
now is a game that’s a blast to play, quick and easy to get into, and empowers
players with insane amounts of customization." Here's more on that: In
fact, Loadout’s weapon-crafting system runs so deep that there are over 44
billion possible creations to assemble, enabling players to transform weapon
behavior in extreme ways, thereby defining their own class and play style.
Combining weapon-crafting with acrobatic movement and over-the-top comedic
violence, Loadout is packed with personality and style that deliver a fresh and
satisfying alternative to the vast array of modern combat shooters.
Firefly Studios announces that Stronghold Crusader 2 will launch this
spring as a Steam exclusive. Marketing Manager and Miami Dolphins starting
quarterback Nick Tannahill explains in
this post on the
official website for the siege-warfare sequel: Our primary reason for
making Crusader 2 exclusive to Steam is fairly simple then. The time required to
create our own bespoke tools and systems for such features could end up delaying
the game for the wrong reasons, which nobody wants, without necessarily
providing better functionality. It sounds clichéd but this is win-win, we get to
include the features fans of the genre expect without delaying the game or
taking our focus away from core gameplay features.
The Hitman website
now has an open letter to Hitman fans outlining what to expect next from
Agent 47, everyone's favorite bar-coded assassin. This confirms the
recent reassurance from IO Interactive
that a new AAA installment in the series is coming to PCs and consoles, and
reveals a little about what it will involve: In the next game you will
experience a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career – the apex
predator stalking his prey across the world, with the support of his long-term
handler Diana Burnwood and the whole of the ICA.
The game concentrates on the core Hitman fantasy of using a wide range of tools
to take out a diverse group of targets across expansive, exotic locations around
the world. We are building this game on the backbone of the Glacier 2 engine,
using the best parts and what we have learnt through Hitman: Absolution and
drawing inspiration from past titles like Contracts and Blood Money to fulfil
the core Hitman fantasy. That means we’re packing in an extreme level of detail
on the largest levels we have ever built for a Hitman game. We’ve adopted an
open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play
out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels. Our aim is to create living,
breathing and believable levels which will allow gamers to play around with the
AI to create those unique moments every fan of the Hitman franchise loves.
Contracts Mode is back – you will be able to create and build challenges by
experimenting with the large levels and possibilities within them. And of
course, you can share them with the world and challenge your friends or foes to
complete your hits. Your rules, your Contracts.
You will also be glad to hear that we have removed 47’s magic pockets. We
believe that’s all we need to say about that subject.
Octodad
Twitter feed announces that Octodad: Dadliest Catch will be released
for Windows, OS X, and Linux on January 30th, saying: "Octodad: Dadliest Catch
is coming to PC/Mac/Linux on Steam, Humble, and GOG on January 30th." In reply
to questions about the PS4 edition of the odd family game
they say
they are "thinking" this will come in March. The news is celebrated with a
new trailer, and
here's word on the game from the trailer's description: Octodad: Dadliest
Catch is about destruction, deception, and fatherhood. The player controls
Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about daily life.
Octodad's existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with
his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodan
nature a secret from his human family. Opposing the octopus are scores of
staircases, boxes of banana peels, and one intense sushi chef.
Octodad has gotten himself in a bind between his wife's mounting mistrust, and a
disastrous trip to the local aquarium! Manipulate his body like a squishy
marionette to maintain the masquerade, as too much suspicion from the proper
populace will doom him to sleep with the fishes! Continue here to read the full story.
The Titanfall website
is accepting applications to alpha test Titanfall, Respawn
Entertainment's upcoming mech combat game. This refers to an email invitation,
but according to
Gematsu,
anyone with an Origin account can apply. There's no word on when testing will
commence. Thanks
NeoGAF where there are indications that this only applies to the Xbox One
edition.
Sledgehammer is looking to hire developers for "a next-gen Call of Duty
game, posting jobs on LinkedIn for positions including

"temporary." The postings reveal significant clues about the game, which will be
a military shooter which will include vehicles, firearms, and levels. Thanks
CVG.
SpellForce 2 – Demons Of The Past is now available,
announces Nordic Games, saying a boxed version of the standalone real-time
strategy expansion is available in Europe and that the add-on is available via
digital distribution as well. They also offer a
release trailer for
the pack, which was
delayed just
two weeks prior to its original
planned release last
October to allow them to enhance its multiplayer support. Here's word on the
add-on: The final instalment in SpellForce 2 brings the story to an epic
end where players will battle it out to save the land of Eo. Demons Of The Past
is a stand-alone adventure with a play time of more than 25 hours, and uniquely
blends RPG and RTS, offering five new worlds (8 in total) for players to
explore. Players can enjoy the game in either single player or multiplayer mode
which includes Campaign, Free game (co-op), Skirmish and Domination plus the new

Thanks to Frans for climbing into a Jefferies tube to fix up our Twitter feed.
Apparently the problem was Twitter being a moving target, as an API switch took
place somewhere along the way, the second time they've crossed us up like that.
For those who use the feed to follow updates here, apologies for the outage
while it was broken, and apologies for the flood of a couple of dozen tweets in
a row that came once it was fixed.
