Valve announces they are now in open beta testing Steam Reviews, helping fill
the Internet's dearth of conflicting opinions. Here's how this
works: Valve today announced the beta launch of Steam Reviews, adding more
ways Steam users may share their experiences with others and make more informed
purchase decisions.
Users considering a purchase on Steam may now browse reviews from friends and
the community, leave comments on reviews, and indicate which reviews they found
helpful.
Once a user has played a game or used a software title on Steam, they are able
to write a review of that product and share their experience with everyone on
Steam.
Steam Reviews is an evolution of the Recommendation system that has been a part
of Steam since 2010. Over the past few years, Steam users have written over 7
million Recommendations of games and software to their friends. Those
Recommendations have been upgraded to Steam Reviews. As such, users may now
choose to make their past Recommendations visible as Reviews to everyone on
Steam, if they wish, by visiting their list of Reviews and changing the settings
accordingly.
Steam Reviews is currently in open beta, accessible to any Steam user.

An
open letter from Gerald on the FIFA Manager website reveals that FIFA
Manager 14 marks an end to this sports management series, which has become
an also-ran competing with Sports Interactive's Football Manager series (thanks
ComputerAndVideoGames). Here's the explanation: Today I’m writing to
tell you that FIFA MANAGER 14 will be the last instalment of the football
simulation series marketed by EA SPORTS. This is was a very tough decision, so I
want to take the time to explain it. This probably comes as a big disappointment
to many of you, and it is understandable that you would ask why.
The football manager genre at this level of sophistication is highly specialised
and primarily played in two countries (England and Germany), in which – on top
of everything – one game has practically dominated the market in recent years.
The niche market and general trend toward online and mobile games were also
contributing factors. Moreover, FM had reached a crossroads at which a new
engine and/or corresponding online technology would be the only way to give the
series a boost. When all these factors were evaluated, it led us to the decision
to blow the final whistle.
All of us, the team at Bright Future and our colleagues at EA SPORTS, loved and
still love FIFA MANAGER. It’s a game that has captivated many fans over the
years, and been our pride and joy since its first instalment FIFA MANAGER 2002
(with Rudi Assauer on the cover). We’ve had Löw and Mourinho on the cover, Felix
Magath twice, and many other German and international stars who have lent their
expertise to the game. We were also lucky to have a very dedicated community.
Your passion and commitment to FIFA MANAGER is unrivalled, and made the series a
great joy to work on.
You have our heartfelt gratitude. We hope you’ll keep playing FM as long as
possible, and that the fan sites will go all out to expand and improve the game
wherever they can. For all your years of support and all your passion for our
game, we thank you.
It's "Black Friday Deals Week" (they just throw these terms together like they
make sense) on Amazon, and

The Office for the
Harmonization of the Internal Market website reveals a new European
trademark filed by Take-Two Interactive for a video game called BULLY BULLWORTH
ACADEMY: CANIS CANEM EDIT. This sounds an awful lot like a sequel to Bully,
Rockstar's action/adventure also known as Canis Canem Edit, which was itself
recently re-trademarked. Thanks

GfK offers their latest weekly sales charts for the U.K., where the
full-price PC chart shows Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag debuting at number
two, while the
all platforms chart sees Forza Motorsport 5 pull in at number five. Here's
their latest write-up: It's
been almost exactly 8 years since the launch of Microsoft's Xbox 360 (Week
48-2005) and this week we welcome Microsoft's Xbox One.
In terms of hardware sales, 80% of all home consoles sold this week were Xbox
One and this new platform outsold the week 1 for Xbox 360 by a factor of 2.
There are 16 launch titles for Xbox One of which 14 actually debut this week (2
titles were released last week). 10 out of these 16 appear in the All Formats
Top 40 (exactly the same number of titles appeared in the Top 40 of week 48/05).
EA's 'FIFA 14' (+328%) returns to No1 after a 7 week absence - the lead format
is the new Xbox One version, which is the biggest selling Xbox One game thanks
of course to the 'Xbox One Day 1 FIFA 14 Edition' (featuring a download token of
the game, included here). In fact the PS4 version of 'FIFA 14' also debuts here,
a week before the launch of PS4 hardware. Activision Blizzards’ 'Call of Duty:
Ghosts' (-16%) drops to No2 after 2 weeks at the top (Xbox One/PS4 versions both
out prior to this week). EA's 'Battlefield 4' climbs 2 places to No3 (+134%)
thanks to the new Xbox One version and Ubisoft remain at No4 with 'Assassin’s
Creed IV: Black Flag' (+123%) with Xbox One and PS4 versions both out this week.
In terms of Xbox One exclusives Microsoft's 'Forza Motorsport 5' debuts at No5
as the largest of these and also featured as a Hardware/Software Day 1 Edition.
Second in the list of Xbox One exclusives at No7 is Microsoft/Capcom's 'Dead
Rising 3', with Nintendo taking the next biggest new release at No9 with 3DS
'The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds'. The third biggest Xbox One
exclusive is right behind at No10 - Microsoft's 'Ryse: Son of Rome'.

As I already mentioned, my darling Hudson the wonder dog died in the wee hours
of yesterday morning. We found her in the morning as if she were asleep, so
we'll take comfort that she went somewhat peacefully, and, very true to her
terrier nature, on her own terms. It's still sinking in, since we had a full day
with Grandma Belle's funeral, which was quite touching and lovely, so this has
all been a bit of a whirlwind. Speaking of Belle, I mentioned how the ups and
downs of Hudson's and Belle's conditions seemed to match each other until they
recently took turns in different directions, but them passing three days apart
shows they were pretty well in sync after all. I am beside myself with grief at
the moment, but I want to thank you all for your kind sympathies, as they have
been a genuine comfort, and leave me overjoyed that I got to share with all of
you so much of what made my baby so special over the years.
