One Of Swords has details on Call of Duty: Ghost Clan Wars, which get
underway on Monday. The lengthy post outlines the history behind the creation of
the mode, and outlines how things will work. Here's a bit on that: Clan
Wars is a metagame that takes place on top of the multiplayer game you’re
already playing. The various game multiplayer game modes in Call of Duty: Ghosts
match up to a node on the Clan Wars map, which you can view from the free Call
of Duty app (click here to download it or here to watch a quick video showing
what the app offers). One Clan War node might be tied to your success in Hunted;
another might be linked to Hardcore Kill Confirmed. As you and your Clan members
play multiplayer matches in those modes, you’ll be racking up points that will
let you take control of the matching nodes. Controlling those nodes pays off in
in-game bonuses and, if you’re really good, unlockable items for your soldiers.
Since Clan Wars is layered on top of what gamers are already playing, it’s
something that casual, social Call of Duty gamers as well as more dedicated,
competitive players can all enjoy.

Tribal Wars 2 is in development as a sequel to Tribal Wars, announces
InnoGames, saying the MMO strategy sequel will bring cross-platform support
between mobiles and all web browsers. The
Tribal Wars 2 website is accepting signups for the closed beta, and here's a
bit on the sequel: In Tribal Wars 2, players find themselves as leader of
a small village in the midst of a medieval world. Tasked with growing and
expanding their empire within a war-torn landscape, they have to fight in order
to survive. The MMO’s focus is real-time strategic battles with and against
other players. Army size is not all that matters - political alliances and
military pacts are crucial for success. Team play is a key aspect of the game.
Compared to its predecessor, Tribal Wars 2 offers a significantly enhanced set
of features, with a total of 17 buildings, 26 technologies and 13 units.
The Black
Mesa Forums celebrate the 15th
anniversary of the release of Half-Life with the news that Black Mesa, their
Source-engine remake of the shooter, is coming to Steam as a commercial
release (thanks
Eurogamer). Here's the announcement: The Big News:
Last year, Black Mesa was one of the first Steam games to be Greenlit by you,
our amazing fans. We've had quite a year since then, with a lot happening
internally that we haven't been able to talk about... until now. Black Mesa has
been given the opportunity to be sold as a retail product on Steam! This is an
incredible honor - one we never expected - but also one we found hard to accept.
We never developed Black Mesa with money in mind. Our team is made up of
average, hardworking people, and no one joined the team to make money. For us,
Black Mesa is purely a labor of love. We believe this philosophy has
significantly contributed to the overall quality and feel of the game.
Our decision to sell Black Mesa rests on two key points. One is we believe we
can make the game even better by having full access to the Source engine. This
lets us tackle and fix limitations instead of working around them. The second is
because frankly, our team could really use the financial help.
The Plan:
Soon you'll see Black Mesa available on Steam for a relatively low price. But we
aren't dropping all support for the free version. In fact shortly after the
Steam release there will be a completely new free version of the game. We also
plan to open source our maps and some game assets to the modding community!
Purchasing the Steam version of Black Mesa is more about supporting the team and
our efforts than anything else. However, the Steam version will include features
that the free version simply can not have. We will be paying careful attention
to feedback, and you'll have a very real say in how the final game turns out.
Long-Term Plans and Xen:
We've been overwhelmed by fan anticipation for Xen, and we're excited so many
people are eager to conclude the game. To be totally honest however, Xen is
still a ways off. Over the past year, we have spent a HUGE amount of time
porting the game to a new engine and fixing hundreds of bugs. The work to port
to the new engine was not because of the decision to go retail, this was work
that had to be done to get Black Mesa onto Steam and support our future plans.
So, please be patient with us as we work to make Xen a stunning and worthy
conclusion to Black Mesa. Until Xen is completed, we have multiple interesting
additions planned for the Steam version of Black Mesa, which we will announce
later on down the road.
Gearbox Software announces Ravenous Wattle Gobbler is coming next
month as the second Headhunter add-on for Borderlands 2, their
role-playing shooter sequel: Hungry for more, Vault Hunters? You won't
have to wait long – The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler, the
second Headhunter add-on for Borderlands 2, will be available beginning November
26th for just USD $2.99 / GBP £2.39 / EUR 2,99 € on PC and Mac via Steam, Xbox
360 via Xbox Live Marketplace, and PlayStation 3* via PlayStation Network!
Seasonal festivities are one of the major inspirations behind the Headhunter
series. In the second Headhunter add-on, Mr. Torgue hosts a hunger-themed
competition to hunt down a giant turkey, the Wattle Gobbler, and selects
sacrificial recruits from all of the districts of Pandora to participate!
There's also a strong theme of family, embodied by characters like Mr. Torgue's
super buff grandmother, Grandma Flexington, which you meet in this downloadable
content for the very first time. Grandma Flexington reminds us that we should be
nice to Grandma during the holidays, even if she rambles on for way too long.
(This may be a tiny spoiler, but the actress that did voice over for Grandma
Flexington performed that part so much better than we ever imagined and we can't
wait for players to finally meet her.)
New character heads and skins will also be available as symbols of your triumph
– provided you're successful in taking down the Wattle Gobbler, that is. You're
welcome to try it solo, but we of course recommend bringing friends.
We're really excited for you to get your hands on The Horrible Hunger of the
Ravenous Wattle Gobbler, and we've got more up our sleeve – so be sure to watch
out for the third Headhunter add-on, How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day coming in
December!
The "friends and family" phase of beta testing for the Diablo III: Reaper of
Souls expansion is underway,
announces Blizzard,
saying they expect to enter a more formal closed beta by the end of the year.
They explain they have expanded the scope of invitations to this phase to
include "valued media contacts and key members of the Blizzard community," and
since there is no NDA in place, this will result in previews and other articles
about the add-on. They also reveal that a version 2.0.1 patch will soon appear
on the PTR, saying: "This patch will feature updates including Paragon 2.0, Loot
2.0, our new difficulty system, the addition of Clans and Communities, as well
as balancing and tuning for all five Diablo III classes."
The
official notes for the new Call of Duty: Ghosts patch confirms
indications that
this has lowered the shooter sequel's RAM requirement from 6GB (hey, I didn't
write that as megabytes this time!). Here's word:
New Features
- #CODeSports option added, providing further MLG
support; Contains a Broadcast mode and the ability to enable the latest MLG
ruleset in both online Private Matches and System Link.
Performance
- Nvidia SLI performance improvements.
- AMD performance improvements, reducing in-game
hitching on cards with 1Gb RAM.
- CPU performance optimization for PC’s with less
than 4 cores.

The
Marvel Heroes forums have details on a new version 2.0 update that's
live which, among other things, adds PvP combat to the comic book-inspired
action/RPG. The patch also introduces Loki as game's the first playable villain
character, and this trailer
shows Thor's horny half-bro in action. Here are some details on PvP: Fire
& Ice brings a brand new PvP combat mode to Marvel Heroes, pitting two teams of
five players against one another. Players are tasked with guarding allied giants
and defeating enemy giants as they move to destroy the opposing team’s base
while protecting their own. During each battle, players receive Runestones for
defeating enemy players and giants, which can be traded for offensive and
defensive PvP buffs, as well as various utilities. Continue here to read the full story.
A new trailer from
Pandora: First Contact show off gameplay and concepts from Proxy Studios'

development and the not-so-easy coexistence among the different human factions."

The New Yorker - The Video Game Invasion of Iraq. Thanks
Neutronbeam.
For Abdulla, playing these games in their real-world settings isn’t
problematic. “Any video game that’s set within Iraq and involves killing
terrorists becomes instantly famous here,” he said. “Everyone wants to play
it. We have been through so much because of terror. Shooting terrorists in a
game is cathartic. We can have our revenge in some small way.” Alanseri
agreed: “Any game that has a level set in Iraq is popular. They always sell
more copies than other games because they are related in some way to our
lives.” The games have even established a kind of empathy for foreign gaming
partners that Alanseri said he would not otherwise have. “I have learned a
lot of things, like Western-world values, culture, life style, and even the
way that they think through video games.”

Dead Rising 3 video preview on ComputerAndVideoGames.
Seeing yesterday was the 15th anniversary of the release of Half-Life had me
reflecting on how this is not the easiest game to play anymore on current
systems. Then comes the announcement that the Black Mesa mod is becoming
official, which is pretty cool, and even the news that Xen is "far off" for the
Valve-time infected project is fine, I just am looking forward to being able to
check it out when it arrives.
