Archived News:
Activision Blizzard's Q3 2013 Financial Statements are online, outlining the
latest profits and losses for the giant.
This press release puts some of the jumble of number into words: "For the
third quarter of 2013, Activision Blizzard delivered GAAP earnings per diluted
share of $0.05, as compared with $0.20 for the third quarter of 2012. On a
non-GAAP basis, the company delivered earnings per diluted share of $0.08, as
compared with $0.15 for the third quarter of 2012." There is also a note on
World of Warcraft showing the MMORPG continues to lose subs, though it still
enjoys an enormous user base: "As of September 30, 2013, Blizzard
Entertainment’s World of Warcraft remains the #1 subscription-based MMORPG, with
approximately 7.6 million subscribers."

Steam now offers Early
Access to Grim Dawn, offering a 10% discount for the next week on the
preliminary version of Crate Entertainment's RPG (thanks UndocumentedAlien).
Here's word on the early access: “We're still working on expanding
content and features for Grim Dawn but it is already very playable and the core
gameplay is fun and relatively polished. The first "Act" is currently available
and most players have reported their first run taking between 8-16 hours and
some have already logged over 100 hours with replays and item farming. We still
have significant content to develop and some features, such as multiplayer, are
not yet online. Join us as we roll out new content, features and continue to
refine the gameplay experience based on your feedback.
Grim Dawn is a passion project by a small team of experienced developers. Please
be aware that we do our best to maintain a stable, enjoyable experience but
because the game is in active development and things are constantly changing,
problems do sometimes arise. You may also find that our pace of development is
not as fast as larger teams. If you're looking for a polished gameplay
experience right now and / or would be upset by delayed releases or slow
updates, then you'd probably be happier waiting for the final release.
Early Access to Blackguards is now available
on Steam, offering first
crack at Daedalic Entertainment's gritty RPG, three months in advance of its
planned official release. They are rolling this out episodically, and have a
few different ways the game can be purchased in advance.
This trailer offers a
look at the game, and this outline tells us what to expect: "Blackguards is a
turn-based RPG with strategic combat and combines the studio's high standards of
storytelling and unique characters with thrilling action and an elaborate 3D
environment. Challenging quests lead the player through a dark story of doubt,
treachery and loss." Continue here to read the full story.
The
Kickstarter is underway for Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore, a
single-player party-based fantasy RPG from G3 Studios, funded by Guido Henkel,
whoaw résumé includes Planescape: Torment, Fallout 2, and
Neverwinter Nights. Here's word on why the hope to raise at least
$390,000: “Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore” is a first-person, party-based
role-playing game with a focus on the story and character development. Developed
by fully independent developer and publisher G3 Studios, and spearheaded by
veteran game designer/producer Guido Henkel (Planescape: Torment, Realms of
Arkania Trilogy, Fallout II, etc.), the game is currently in its early stages of
development and is scheduled for release in late 2014.
Here are a few tidbits surrounding the just-released Call of Duty: Ghosts.
There's
the analysis that "mediocre" review scores won't "enormously impact" sales
of the FPS (First-Person Sandler), a contention supported by
word of $1 billion in day one sales. There's also the
cut-scene that looks like Modern Warfare 2, which has caused some outrage,
but may just be an intentional homage. Meanwhile, if you are wondering why
bullets can follow you around corners,
NowGamer has the explanation from executive producer Mark Rubin. Finally,
reader Charliebrownau
sends a tip to help with Call of Duty: Ghosts matchmaking to avoid ending
up on high-ping servers. Here's a use at your own risk workaround that doesn't
seem too risky:
- Exit COD GHOST PC
- With notepad or your fav text editor
Open this file \Call of Duty Ghosts\players2\config_mp.cfg
For me it was in D:\Games\steam\steamapps\common\\Call of Duty Ghosts\
- change seta cl_maxPing "800" to seta cl_maxPing
"150"
- Exit text editor
- Restart COD GHOST PC
- Search for a game with lower ping , if you cant
find games
increase to 200 instead of 150
Tip: Might be a good idea to make a backup copy of the config_mp.cfg file
before changing it

I saw some of you grumbling about doing badly in
our NFL picks this
week, so I thought I'd trot out my 6-7 record to make you feel better. By
dipping below .500 for the week, my alternate plan takes shape: Maybe it's time
to make my picks, and then just reverse them. I need to do something...
achieving the same outcome as a coin-flip would is not getting it done.
