The
Arma 3 Website announces the release of the first installment in the
campaign for Bohemia Interactive's military shooter sequel, saying the update is
now automatically available through Steam (thanks
PC Gamer). They offer
a brief trailer teasing
the content, and the following word: In Arma 3’s
campaign,
players take on the role of Ben Kerry, a soldier who is a part of the NATO
peacekeeping operation in the Mediterranean. Five years after the bloody civil
war in the Republic of Altis & Stratis came to an end, NATO has started to
withdraw its forces from the region - unknowingly creating the conditions for a
Mediterranean flashpoint. Kerry's unit, 'Task Force Aegis' - together with a
clandestine group of UKSF operators - is soon caught up in a situation beyond
their control, and trapped in a fight for survival.
Besides new playable content, the first campaign episode also provides extra
building blocks for Arma 3 content creators. These come in the form of new
weapons, animations, 3D objects, and scripted modules. More free content,
including new vehicles, is expected to be released together with the next
campaign episodes. The exact release dates of the second (Adapt) and third (Win)
campaign episodes will be announced later. Continue here to read the full story.
The UbiBlog
announces another delay to South Park: The Stick of Truth, saying
Obsidian's cartoon-inspired RPG is now expected on March 4, 2014. They explain
the latest delay to the game is due to how much more work it required than they
anticipated when they acquired
it along with developer THQ Montreal, even though they said it was still on
track for this year months
after the sale which is after they now say they recognized the problem.
"Within three weeks after acquiring the game, we sadly realized we had to turn
this thing upside down if we hoped to deliver the experience everybody wanted,"
says Ubisoft North America’s president Laurent Detoc. "It’s been such a major
overhaul to get to the point where we are that we couldn’t let it go, even if
that meant missing December." They offer
a new trailer showing
the quest for the Giggling Donkey featuring gameplay and lots of cinematics.
They also offer a quote from the game's creators, who apparently speak
simultaneously like creepy twins. "We always wanted the game to feel like you're
actually in an episode of South Park," say Matt Stone and Trey Parker. "Getting
the game up to the crappy standards of the show has been a real challenge and
we’re excited to say it's taken way longer than we thought it would." Continue here to read the full story.
The Total War
Facebook page has news of the release of the Blood & Gore DLC for
Total War:
ROME II, saying "This content is rated mature, not suitable for all audiences."
Word is: "Blood & Gore brings the savagery of front-line combat to
viscera-splattering life with decapitations, dismemberment and devastating
impalements. Featuring hundreds of gruesome animations that play out in combat
between multiple different unit types, the massed battles of Total War: ROME II
will never be the same again. Employing a more refined particle system than
Shogun 2, Blood & Gore for ROME II looks and feels grittier and more brutal.
Gore coats combatants, the ground will become soaked with blood, and you’ll hear
every stab, slash and impact with bespoke new sound effects."
Publisher Paradox Interactive announces the release of Dungeons & Gargoyles,
the final DLC pack for Magicka, Arrowhead Games' action/adventure. Here's
the skinny: "Magicka: Dungeons & Gargolyes caps off the original Magicka tale by
continuing and concluding the fan-favorite Dungeons & Daemons expansion.
Player-wizards will find themselves stuck in the buried city of Old Aldrheim,
searching for a way home while confronted by new creatures and foes, new jokes,
and a new tale that explores the fate of the lost town. Paradox does not want to
offer too many spoilers, but there’s probably gargoyles in it. Dungeons &
Gargoyles is available now for $3.99." They celebrate the news with
this trailer, and
Steam offers Magicka
free all weekend, and a sale on the game at 75% off its normal price. They have
also released the Windows edition of
Wizards of the Square Tablet,
their Magicka game for tablets, bringing cross-platform gameplay and perks along
with it. Here's word: The two-dimensional team from Wizards of the Square
Tablet, a Magicka adventure released on iOS and Android early this year, have
made their way to the PC in a new release on Steam. Players who purchase Wizards
of the Square Tablet for the PC will receive all in-game robes and staves for
free, and those items can be transferred to mobile platforms (if the mobile
version is already owned) with the use of a Paradox account. The PC version is
also cross-platform compatible, enabling the game to now support real-time co-op
between PC, iPad, and Android. Wizards of the Square Tablet on PC will be
available for $4.99. Continue here to read the full story.

Trilobyte Games announces The 7th Guest 3: The Collector, an upcoming
follow-up to their seminal 20th century FMV adventure games The Seventh Guest
and The Eleventh Hour. "We’ve been waiting to make The 7th Guest: 3 for a long
time," said Rob Landeros, CEO of Trilobyte Games. "The team's in place; new
puzzles are in development, and the most notorious villain in all gaming, Henry
Stauf, is poised to return and finish the story that begin in The 7th Guest.
With the launch of our Kickstarter campaign, we're turning to our fans and the
gaming community to provide the only remaining ingredient, development and
production funding." Here is
the Kickstarter campaign he mentions, which seeks $435,000 for the project.
Here's word: In The 7th Guest: 3, Stauf's house is filled with 20
devilishly clever puzzles that will test wits--and scare even the most jaded
gamers. The house is not only filled with puzzles, it is a puzzle; one gigantic,
mechanical mind-bender. To complete the game and the story, players must solve
every puzzle in the house and the puzzle of the house itself. Only then will the
final, dreadful secret of that brilliant madman, Henry Stauf, be revealed.
While the gameplay of T7G3 will fairly closely follow that of The 7th Guest and
11th Hour, Trilobyte plans to thoroughly leverage touch-screen, mobile
technology, and modern standards in video-game presentation to bring players the
7th Guest of their fondest dreams (and nightmares)! “We are committed to staying
true to the spirit of the original 7th Guest,” said Landeros.
The new Stauf mansion will be rendered in beautiful high-definition, extensively
renovated and furnished with hundreds of interesting new items. The house's
remodelers won’t stint on redecoration. The grand, revamped edifice will be
something of an historical museum.

Congrats to the Red Sox, as word from people who watch baseball is they won the
World Series. And Happy Halloween! Two years ago we had a freak blizzard in this
area snow out the occasion, and last year's trick-or-treating was hindered by
Hurricane Sandy, but with mild weather in the forecast, we're expecting a good
turnout this year. This is especially nice for Hudson the wonder dog, as she has
always believed the children come to visit her, making Halloween one of the
happiest days of the year for our beloved girl, so what's undoubtedly her last
one should be a good one. I'll just have to work out how to best reduce the
effort of her popping up for the doorbell, and we'll probably forego dressing
her up this year, but as long as the kiddies come calling she will have a great
time.
