A letter from EA
Chairman Larry Probst announces that Andrew Wilson is the new CEO at
Electronic Arts, after previously serving as executive VP of EA Sports. There is
also a new
message from Wilson, with word on how he will attempt to fill John
Riccitiello's shoes: I envision EA as the World’s Greatest Games Company.
This is not about what we are aiming for or what we will become. Rather, it is
about an unfaltering commitment to what we will be every day. This is an
attitude that must drive our culture as one team.
I also believe EA’s strategy is sound. Our focus on our talent, our brands and
our platform together with our investment in next-generation consoles, mobile
and PC free-to-play, as part of our ongoing transition to digital, is right. But
we have plenty of work ahead to ensure our collective success.
In the short term, our mission is crystal clear: We are 100 percent focused on
delivering our FY14 business plan. We have made strong progress in the first
half of the fiscal year, establishing financial discipline and continuing to
create a slate of fantastic games for current and next-generation consoles,
mobile and PC. But now we’ve got to finish the job – execute in Q3 and Q4 and
deliver on the promises we made to our fans and our shareholders.
Looking ahead, my focus will be on three things:
1. Continued transformation for our digital future;
2. Delivering amazing games and services across platforms; and
3. Instilling a culture of execution that will drive profitable growth.
In the days and weeks ahead, I will provide a greater level of operational
detail behind the plan that will make these goals a reality.

Bohemia Interactive announces an October 1st release date for Arma Tactics,
the upcoming PC version of the turn-based close-combat strategy game based on
their Arma shooters. For those who can't wait, the game is available right now
for early access on Steam,
which comes with a 15% discount. Here's word: Arma Tactics will receive a
number of PC specific upgrades/improvements including: Amazingly visually
enhanced (high-detailed textures, post effects, high-detailed light maps,
enhanced shaders and shadows). Controls optimized for PC (mouse+keyboard) and
full support for gamepad. Please note not all enhanced features will be included
in the initial beta.
Arma Tactics is a turn-based close-combat strategy game, where the player takes
control of a four-member Special Forces team. There are no given strategies,
rails to move on, or paths to follow; it‘s up to the player to decide how he
will play through both the story-driven missions and generated missions with
randomized objectives. Whether using stealth or a more direct approach, players
will need to use their strategic thinking and use both basic and advanced
weaponry while facing many different opponents - ranging from unorganized local
militia to smart and skilled mercenaries.
Nexon announces closed beta testing of Extraction will begin on October
1st, offering the first chance to play this upcoming free-to-play online FPS
from Splash Damage. Signups are being accepted on the
Extraction website, and here's
word on how this works: The Extraction closed beta will have limited
openings, so only a select number of players will be able to participate.
Notifications will be sent to chosen players by Oct. 1, when the closed beta
period begins. In addition to stability testing, the closed beta will serve as a
channel for new players to help further shape Extraction into a fair and
balanced playing field. Extraction's alpha community has made significant
contributions to the game since December 2012.
Developed by Splash Damage, Extraction takes place in London after a mysterious
radiological attack. The only people who dare enter the abandoned city are
groups of elite mercenaries tasked with extracting valuable data. Players in the
closed beta will get to test several maps and game modes, and can unlock
additional Mercs to play as, each with different play styles and
abilities.

Blizzard announces they
are killing the auction houses in Diablo III as of March 18, 2014,
saying: "We feel that this move along with the Loot 2.0 system being developed
concurrently with Reaper of Souls™ will result in a much more rewarding game
experience for our players." Here's word: When we initially designed and
implemented the auction houses, the driving goal was to provide a convenient and
secure system for trades. But as we've mentioned on different occasions, it
became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the
fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines
Diablo's core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot. With that in mind, we
want to let everyone know that we've decided to remove the gold and real-money
auction house system from Diablo III.
We feel that this move along with the Loot 2.0 system being developed
concurrently with Reaper of Souls™ will result in a much more rewarding game
experience for our players.
We're working out the details of how the auction house system will be shut down,
but we wanted to share the news as soon as we made the decision in order to give
everyone as much advance notice as possible. Please note that the shutdown will
occur on March 18, 2014. We will keep everyone informed as we work through this
process.
Josh Mosqueira and I wanted to provide everyone with a little more information
behind this decision, so please have a look at the video, and stay tuned to this
site for further updates in the months ahead.

Well, today is GTA5 release day, and I actually have a copy preordered myself,
so that should show up at some point. I say "actually" because I'm predominately
a PC gamer (I probably didn't need to explain that here), and this is maybe the
fifth release-date game I've ever gotten for a console, with the previous honorees
being Rock Band games and GTA4. If you are picking it up yourself, here's a
reminder that Bats has started a
