The
DayZ blog now features a new
video developer's blog
from Bohemia Interactive's upcoming standalone game based on the DayZ mod for
Arma II. The accompanying blurb says: "The showcase this time is on usability
progress from player feedback at Gamescom, demonstration of the degradation and
item damage system, ballistic vests, and even player restraints!" There's a
little more in the description of the clip: "This devblog Rocket goes through
some of the updates and progress completed in the last couple of weeks, ending
with some information about progress on multiplayer optimization that we are
waiting for before releasing the Alpha."

Bugbear announces their next car demolition game, currently codenamed
Next
Car Game, is now the subject of a
Steam
Greenlight campaign. As they
already
announced, they will be distributing an early access build to customers once
they've pre-sold 10,000 copies of the game. A full release is expected early
next year, and they say this will be proceeded by an alpha that will be more
complete. They also send along a more complete description of what to expect
from all this:
Our NEXT CAR GAME is all about fun, breakneck racing and
over-the-top crashes. We don’t shy away from contact, and our in-house engine is
all about what happens when cars collide with each other and the world around
them at reckless speeds.
It’s a motorsport, but not just any motorsport. It’s a motorsport with attitude.
Expect epic crashes and tight, neck-to-neck fights over the finish line on
run-down racing tracks. Expect proper, big demolition derbies. Expect brand new
ways for metal to bend and the defining once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be
achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation.

The idea of gamer resilience isn't just an academic obsession for me.
It's something I've experienced personally. I've had to fight off suicidal
thoughts after a traumatic brain injury -- and I used my gamer strengths to
do it.
I was explaining this to the TED audience -- that I'd reached my lowest
point, when I said to myself: "I'm either going to kill myself, or I'm going
to turn this into a game" -- when suddenly, everything in the theater went
pitch black.
It was the strangest thing. A gasp went up in the audience. Just when I was
finding the courage to discuss the darkest moment in my life, we were
literally plunged into darkness together.
The NFL season kicked off on Thursday, but with only one game in the books,
there's still time to jump into our
BeatTheInsiders league
for a little free competition to see who can pick more winners. Now I just need
to resolve the Giants game overlapping with Breaking Bad and Ray Donovan
tonight. Argh!
