Gearbox unveils additional plans for their
recently aquired Homeworld IP
besides the
previously
announced HD editions of the RTS classics, as
Polygon has word from PAX that the company has made a deal with Blackbird
interactive to rework
HARDWARE:
Shipbreakers to be Homeworld: Shipbreakers, which shouldn't be too hard,
since Blackbird is composed of Homeworld developers and the game was planned as
a spiritual prequel to Homeworld. "These guys have been funded by private
equity, but it's clear it was going to take many millions of dollars more,"
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said. "We're giving them the brand and the resources
to make this happen. Now, these guys are cooking and with the money they have
now, they can grow the team."
Steam News announces
early access is underway for
DCS: UH-1H Huey, the

the world. Having served extensively as a transport and armed combat support
helicopter in the Vietnam War, the Huey continues to perform a wide variety of
military and civilian missions around the world today.
GFK Chart-Track has this week's Top 20 full-priced PC games in the U.K.,
where FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN is the new number one. Spore continues
to hold the top spot in
the PC bargain chart. The FF14 Rerelease is number three on the
all-platforms/all-prices chart.
Here's word:
Of
the top three new entries last week at No’s 1,2 & 3, the Top 2 remain
stationary, with Deep Silver/Koch’s ‘Saints Row IV’ (-44%) at No1.
This is followed at No2 by Ubisoft’s ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist’
(-37%) while last week’s No3 ‘Disney Infinity’ drops to No4 (-16%). There are 5
new entries this week within the Top 40, the highest of which debuts at No3 and
is Square Enix’s revamped ‘Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’ for PS3/PC – note
that ‘Final Fantasy XIV’ originally launched in September 2010 on PC only,
debuting at No10 in week 38/10.
Ubisoft debut at No6 with ‘Rayman Legends’ which is the direct successor to
2011’s ‘Rayman Origins’ – good news for Ubisoft is that ‘Legends’ outsold
‘Origins’ week 1 by around 20%. Right behind at No7 is EA’s ‘Madden NFL 25’ for
360/PS3 – last year’s version ‘Madden NFL 13’ also debuted at No7 exactly 1 year
ago for 360/PS3, although in terms of sales, ‘NFL 13’ holds the week 1 record.
Capcom debut at No26 with ‘Lost Planet 3’ and Deep Silver/Koch come in at No28
with ‘Killer is Dead’, developed by GrassHopper Manufacture who were most
recently seen in the charts with ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ (wk24/12). ‘Killer is Dead’
continues the assassins themes explored in cult classics ‘Killer 7’
(PS2/Gamecube in 2005) and ‘No More Heroes’ (Wii in 2008).
Game Front - A Cautionary Tale- The Rage of the Mechwarrior Online Community.
Thanks Ant via
Slashdot.
To those reading the Mechwarrior Online forums now, as opposed to six
months ago, the change is marked. Gone are the days of typical forum
behavior: quiet threads toiling in the background with the occasional
drive-by trolling or derailment. Instead, the community is in full riot
mode, slandering the developers in announcement threads and creating
signatures insulting Piranha Games’s competence. The phrase “PGI Lied, MWO
Died” has taken on a weird sort of life amidst the disgruntled players.
This wasn’t spontaneous, however. The road that led to MWO’s fanbase banging
on PGI’s gates with pitchforks and torches was a long one, and the situation
acts as an interesting case study in how to gradually alienate your players.
Or, at least, the players on your forums.
I hope you will forgive the late update today, as I celebrate labor day here in
the U.S. with my lack of labor! :)
