A new
Kickstarter is already halfway to raising the $900K it seeks to develop
Mighty No. 9, a PC game that looks a lot like
Mega Man from the early
art (thanks nin). This is no coincidence, as they describe this game as "Classic
Japanese side-scrolling action, evolved and transformed by Keiji Inafune, an
all-star team of veteran Mega Man devs...and YOU!" They say the Windows edition
will include gamepad support and will be released both on Steam as well as
DRM-free digital distribution. Word is: "Other platforms, including home
consoles, Mac, and Linux, are a high priority, but only if we can afford them
via stretch goals. Should we reach those goals, anyone funding the project will
be allowed to choose which version of the game they would like to receive. The
estimated release date is spring 2015." Here's more:
You play as Beck,
the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a
mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to
go berserk. Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through six stages (or
more, via stretch goals) you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons
and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number
robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!
Developer Bugbear announces their next car demolition game, which they are
calling
Next Car Game for the moment, saying this will come to PCs via
digital distribution next year. They are not exactly crowd-funding this project,
but they are accepting preorders, saying once they've sold 10,000 copies of the
game they will release a sneak peak version of the game. Here's word on this
"pre-alpha" release will help shape development of the game:
Then, later
this year, we're going to release the early access, a pre-Alpha build for all
pre-order customers. This is a much more complete version, but still very much
in the making.
So not only do you have a chance to join the fun right away and get access to
exclusive content, you also get a chance to help shaping the game into something
YOU want to play. Make no mistake about it, this game is being developed for you
– don’t miss out on the chance to say your word! Want a specific game mode?
Don’t think your favorite car model is included? Let’s hear it!
Roberts Space Industries has a letter from Chairman Chris Roberts offering
thanks to backers who have now pledged $17 million to fund
Star Citizen,
the upcoming Wing Commander-inspired space game. This includes word on their $19
million stretch goal:
I would like to extend my most heartfelt thanks to
each and every one of you! We just hit $17 million at slightly past 12am PST
August 31 2013 – less than seven days after we hit $16M!!! The power of this
community is simply amazing!
We still have a ways to go before we have achieved the goal of being completely
community funded but based on our current trajectory we’re going to make it –
maybe even by the end of this year! Which will be another amazing milestone that
will have been set by this community. The enthusiasm and support the development
team and I have felt is amazing and makes us even more determined to make the
best damn space sim ever! (BDSSE!)
The $17 million mark unlocks a special ship upgrade pack for every pledger who
has donated prior to this point. An engine modifier will be added to your
account shortly and in the near future you should be able to see it in your
hangar! You also unlocked an additional flyable ship class in the finished game:
the massive battlecruiser!
This accomplishment means that it’s time to reveal the $19 million stretch
goals. Without further ado:
$19 million
- Know your foe with a Jane’s Fighting Ships style
manual free in PDF form to all pledgers.
- Manage Space Stations – Players will compete to
own and operate a limited number of space stations across the galaxy.
- RSI Museum will air monthly, with a new game
featured each time!
Here's the list of the 10 top-selling games on
Steam for the past week. Well,
it's usually games, though this list includes a productivity app. Good news for
Valve? Bad news for PC gamers? The chance to include three question marks in one
post? You decide:
- Total War: ROME II
- PAYDAY 2
- Saints Row IV
- Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist
- You Need a Budget
- Sid Meier's Civilization V Brave New World
- Castlevania: Lords of Shadows - Ultimate Edition
- Prison Architect
- Game Dev Tycoon
- Arma III Beta
Thanks for the happy birthday wishes for Hudson the wonder dog. I plan on firing
up the man-stove today, so I'll make her and the Gunnar-man something special
for the occasion. I've also got some spare ribs to make, which is daunting,
because the first time I tried to make ribs it was spare ribs, and they were
awful. Since then I have had lots of success both grilling and smoking the far
more forgiving loin ribs, so I have worked my nerve up to trying these again. I
have some baby backs to do as well, which has actually helped make this scarier,
because when I Googled "baby back versus spare rib cooking time" one of the
links I turned up said there is an old saying among pitmasters is that the way
to cook perfect spare ribs is to pit them on at the same time as a rack of baby
backs, and when the baby backs are completely dried out, the spare ribs will be
perfect. As I say, a little daunting. Wish me luck!
