signed on for the beta so far. Also, these
patch notes detail a new update that's now live, providing fixes and new

A new Independence Day
Trailer NSFW from Saints Row IV features Keith David (or is it David Keith?) offering an
inspirational speech to the public in classic Bill Pullman style (or was it Bill
Paxton?). The clip features gameplay and some strong language, but hey, we're
talking about fighting an alien invasion here, so there's no time to worry about
delicate sensibilities. Continue here to read the full story.
The elite folks at 1337 Games announce that Tactical Intervention is
coming soon to Steam, offering wider international distribution of this
free-to-play first-person shooter from Counter-Strike co-creator, Minh
"Gooseman" Le. In all modesty, they explain how Le "has deeply influenced a
whole generation of players and an entire industry" with Counter-Strike before
creating his new "stroke of genius": Berlin, July 3 2013: With
Counter-Strike, Minh "Gooseman" Le has created one of the biggest phenomena of
the video game world. He co-developed the Half-Life mod which - until today - is
one of the most successful tactical shooters and has deeply influenced a whole
generation of players and an entire industry.
Having honed his skills for the past seven years at Valve, Minh Le has now
partnered with developers from Fix Korea to present his latest stroke of genius:
Tactical Intervention. Focused on adrenaline-fueled, action-packed combat,
Tactical Intervention is a consistent advancement of the team-based tactical
shooter genre. This August, the game will have its worldwide release via Steam,
where players can download and play it for free.
Dark Horizons has an update on the state of the proposed World of
Warcraft movie, as Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull answered a question about
the MMORPG adaptation at a Pacific Rim press conference. We haven't heard
about the project since the news
that Duncan Jones will direct, and Tull admits "we don't know how to make a
movie out of 'Warcraft," and the time they are taking is "because we absolutely
don't want to screw it up." He also says the idea of some studio execs that the
movie will succeed if everyone who plays buys a ticket is "an incredibly poor
way to make a movie." It's also a problem that will solve itself if they
continue to hesitate, as the game's population is down to 8.3 million as
last we heard
after peaking at 12 million in 2010.
Here's were things stand as of now: And I think we're getting close to a
place where we're ready to go. And when the script is finished, and when we feel
like, 'Does this stand on its own, and is it great?' Then we'll start filming.
We're not quite there yet. The next two years are going to be pretty
exciting."
GamesIndustry International has word that NPD Group plans on addressing
the criticism that their monthly game sales estimates are
inaccurate by attempting to better capture data on digital sales. "The NPD games
leader panel is currently comprised of nine leading games publishers. The
initial focus will be on full-game downloads and downloadable content for
consoles, PCs and portables," says NPD president David McQuillan. "We aren't at
liberty to say who is participating at this time, since we are in the beta
(proof of concept) stage." And though their monthly reports have focused on
North America, McQuillan tells them their digital data will be international,
which may be one of the reasons they say that they are not set on when digital
figures will be incorporated into their monthly reports.
Jagex announces plans to officially launch
Runescape 3 later this month, saying
the browser-based MMOG sequel will go live on July 22nd. Here's a bit: The
biggest upgrade in the game’s acclaimed 12 year history, RuneScape 3 brings next
generation browser technology, new gameplay features and heralds in
ground-breaking player-driven content.
RuneScape 3 will mark the massively multiplayer online game’s transition to the
cutting-edge browser technology of HTML 5, enabling any player to embark on the
world’s biggest adventure without the requirement for Java nor any other
plugins. The use of the proprietary HTML 5 engine allows for significant
enhancements to the player experience such as improved graphics, longer draw
distances, an upgraded camera system and superior audio. The addition of
seasonal high scores will allow all players in the community to compete on
weekly and monthly leader boards.
The Kingdoms Rise website is
home to an upcoming multiplayer game of fantasy sword fighting being developed
by a two-person team for Windows and OS X. They are hoping to get the game on
Steam via a
Greenlight campaign, which offers a trailer from the project. Here's a
bit: Kingdoms Rise features a 360° melee system which enables players to
swing their sword in any direction. With this melee system players engage in
intense, tactical sword fights, opponents must read each other for opportunities
and weaknesses.
To complement the sword system players can equip magic spells and fantasy
abilities to fight and platform in unique and interesting ways. There are no
classes, instead we let players be creative in choosing everything from their
weapons, appearance and abilities. Your look and fighting style is unique to you
alone.
This video from The
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a "making-of" feature for
this video released
during E3 for CD Projekt RED's
action/RPG sequel. The clip shows the video's on-location shoot in Scotland,
which would seem like a giant boondoggle were it in some other location, but
watching the developers trying to avoid frostbite suggests otherwise. The clip
doesn't really touch on the game as much as offer background and outtakes from
the prior video.
The Sven Co-op website now offers version
4.8 of Sven Co-op, the original co-op mod for the original Half-Life.
The new version adds support for Half-Life: Blue Shift along with a bunch of
tweaks and fixes, and the
full change log explains it all. Word is that this will likely be the final
version of the mod, but we will end with a cliffhanger, as they say: "After 14
years of development, version 4.8 will most likely be the final Sven Co-op mod
release. It will not mark the end of Sven Co-op, however. The team has a major
announcement to make within the next few weeks."

Something weird has been going on lately when I try to embed videos in stories
here. For me, at least, there is a blank where the embedded video should appear.
I'll try to figure out what's going wrong here, as this should be a
straightforward process, but in the meantime I'll avoid causing confusion by
refraining from embedding clips.
