World of Darkness News has "word from a source close to the WoD project"
that the details about World of Darkness
released in 2010 may no longer
be valid for the current design for CCP's MMORPG based on the setting of Vampire
the Masquerade. They are told that the only information should be considered
reliable about the game is anything that has re-announced in some form since
that time, so they have listed all the tidbits that qualify.
Ubisoft has no fewer than three different
Assassin's Creed games in
development, reports
Kotaku, quote Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot saying it is their goal to continue
to make the assassination series "appealing and fresh" in spite of the apparent
overkill. Here's a bit where he uses the words innovation and formula in the
same breath: "Really, what we see is that we can have the capacity to regularly
come with innovation," Guillemot told Kotaku's Stephen Totilo. "That is, for me,
the formula: if you can really change the game on a regular basis and bring in
innovation your fans want a product very regularly. Our job is to make sure the
teams have enough power, enough energy and enough time to take the necessary
steps to create a high quality game."

Steam News announces
that
Planetary
Annihilation is now available as an early access title. This is causing
quite a stir thanks to the $89.99 price it carries, which is steep for a
finished game, much less a pre-beta. They include a note somewhat addressing
this, explaining that this is the price they told their Kickstarter backers that
early access would command:
Our pricing for this stage of early access was
determined by our Kickstarter. The stages of our early access for ALL users,
which was determined during our Kickstarter, is:
June through August: $90 for early alpha access, during the time where we're
still locking down features and making tweaks to the flow of the game. This
access is permanent access - you will be able to play through alpha, beta and on
through retail. (Galactic Edition Equivalent with all addons)

Indi developer Vlambeer has suffered the theft of game code, a developers kit
and more at E3 in one of those trade show thefts we've heard about before,
reports
Polygon. A bag with a laptop, two iPads, a PlayStation Vita, a Vita test
kit, a Kindle Fire, and the code for the company's upcoming
LUFTRAUSERS
were taken at the Figueroa Hotel's pool bar, which probably would not be
mistaken for Fort Knox. "Basically everything Vlambeer is in the bag," explains
Rami Ismail, Vlambeer co-founder. "So it kind of feels like Vlambeer got stolen.
We have good backups. We take good care of everything, We've got decent backups
to continue working. It's just a giant pain." The story anecdotally reports on a
number of other thefts, making it sound like a rash, but they have a statement
from the show organizers saying that this is not the case, and security has been
tight.
This trailer offers a
look as the E3 presentation of
Thief as Eidos Montreal's "Producer /
Thief" (not sure they meant the caption to read like he's a criminal) Stéphane
Roy demonstrates the game for Spike TV's Geoff Keighley. The clip includes live
gameplay footage, though it's the PlayStation 4 edition of the reboot that's
used for this (thanks
Rock, Paper, Shotgun). One of the topics they explore is the mix of action
and stealth, and they admit they have been enhancing the action part of the
equation as they've gone along after starting with a game that was almost purely
about stealth.

Here'
a new trailer
with prototype gameplay footage from
World of Diving, the upcoming game
that puts you in the
shoes swimfins of a scuba diver. They warn
this is an early look at the game so they can get feedback. "We’ve never before
released gameplay footage this early into the development of a game. Apart from
supporting the Indiegogo campaign, its goal is mainly to build, connect with,
and communicate with the community from the very outset," says Tristan Lambert,
Technical Director at Vertigo Games. "Instead of community building, we are
gathering a building community around World of Diving." Here's more on the
trailer: "The gameplay teaser highlights some of the activities that World of
Diving players will be able to partake in together, besides enjoying the virtual
fish, flora and fathoms of ocean. It shows the discovery of the forgotten
wreckage of the “HMS Montebello,” ancient artifacts to be collected, and sharks
startled at underwater flares. Additionally, an underwater communication system
is introduced that, true to the real world diving experience, is based on
professional diver gestures. This is to support underwater multiplayer
interaction with other players on the diving team."

Well today is getaway day from E3 as another show is in the books. I bet there's
an opportunity to hang out at LAX and pick up swag that's jettisoned along the
way that can't be fit into carry-on luggage, though that's not going to be as
fun as attending the show would have been. Hell, dumpster diving for swag behind
the convention center would probably be preferable to a day at the airport.
