Penny Arcade's On The Rain-slick Precipice of Darkness website has news that
episode four of this action/adventure series is now available, capping things
off. The Windows edition is available
on Steam, where
word is: Penny
Arcade’s “On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4” concludes the saga of Tycho
Brahe, Scion of The Long Project, and his almost certainly human partner
Jonathan Gabriel. The new game expands considerably on its predecessor in size,
scope and gameplay. The world has been destroyed, but existence extends beyond
this mortal plane in the gruesome Underhell! Create the ultimate fighting force
by recruiting bizarre, occasionally disgusting monsters and teaming them up with
the best trainer for the job!
The
Daylight website now offers the
E3 2013 trailer from
Daylight, Zombie Studios' upcoming procedurally generated Unreal Engine 4
psychological thriller. This celebrates the news that they will be bringing the
game to the PlayStation 4 as a console exclusive along with its release early
next year for Windows PCs. Here's the rundown:
Daylight is told in the
first-person perspective and begins with players regaining consciousness in an
abandoned hospital with only a cell phone to use as a source of light. The
ominous atmosphere, powered by Unreal Engine 4 gives players the immediate
feeling that they need to escape. But since each level is procedurally
generated, no clues, haunted corridors, life-saving flares or lurking specter
will ever be in the same place twice. Daylight was written by industry veteran
Jessica Chobot, who also provides the quavering, terrified voice of the
protagonist.

11 bit studios announces the release of the OS X edition of
Anomaly 2,
bringing the sequel to Anomaly Warzone Earth, to the Mac platform. They offer a
link to the
launch trailer
from when the tower offense game was released for Windows and Linux, and the
following reminder of what to expect: "Anomaly 2 maintains the core elements of
the first series while adding new features to the single player campaign and
introducing a tower defense versus tower offense multiplayer mode."
Publisher Tri Synergy announces they've teamed with EGOSOFT for the release of
X Rebirth, the upcoming sci-fi sequel, saying this will be shown off at
next week's E3 with the goal of a release by the end of this year. We haven't
heard much about X Rebirth since
EGOSOFT
announced plans to release a fourth installment in the X series of space
combat games in the fourth quarter of 2011, a plan which obviously went awry at
some point. Here's word on the game which vaguely addresses the delay:
X
Rebirth brings a completely new beginning to the X series. Loyal fans of the X
series and wet-behind-the-ears greenhorns will enter an unprecedented universe
of incredible scope and detail. Launching your game experience is simple; it is
what you want to do as a speck in the universe that is the ultimate challenge.
Become a seasoned trader as you master the trading mechanics of an organic
economy; explore space using the new fast travel transportation systems; take
part in white-knuckled space combat as a single ship or as commander of a vast
armada. It is all easy to learn, but hard to master.
X Rebirth offers a fresh look at space simulation and open-space game play that
fans of the X Universe have waited over 2 years to experience. As Bernd Lehahn,
CEO of Egosoft explains:
“It’s beautiful, it’s big and everything in it is new. But it turns out you
don’t simply reinvent space games overnight.”
Polygon has the WTF story of the day in a straggling follow-up to the THQ
bankruptcy
fire sale. They discovered
a new legal filing showing Interplay (a company that's had its
own struggles) managed to score
the IP for the
FreeSpace series of space combat game originated by
Volition for the bargain price of $7500. There are no details at this point on
how this managed to go so cheaply. Thanks NKD.

A
new "Good Night, Good
Luck" trailer from
Dying Light is an Edward R. Murrow-free cinematic
look at Techland's upcoming zombie game and its premise that parkour will be the
chosen form of transportation and combat during the inevitable zombie
apocalypse. Here's word:
Welcome to the unforgiving world of Dying Light,
where a city devastated by a deadly outbreak has become a battleground. In the
first-ever trailer for the recently-announced title from WBIE and Techland,
players will get a glimpse of what it takes to stay alive. As day turns to
night, survivors race to a cache of supplies, but the pulse-pounding free run is
only half the battle. Staying alive through the night, when the infected become
even more deadly, is the real challenge. So run, boy, run, as Dying Light wishes
you Good Night, Good Luck.

The
Kickstarter page for
Heavy Gear Assault offers a
new video trailer
showing off in-game footage of Stompy Bot's upcoming mech game, saying this
comes on "the heels of E3," even though we're pretty sure the show hasn't
started yet (in spite of the flood of already released E3 trailers like this one
that would suggest otherwise). The clip shows off a mech suit being mounted and
repaired using the game's Unreal Engine 4 graphics. Thanks Vince.

I have a huge gash on my shin, and I'm a little pissed about it. I was walking
the pooches when I caught a crack across the shin that was as painful as, well
as it sounds. I looked to see what ambushed me, and saw there was some sort of
metal fixture poking out of the ground by the curb exactly corresponding to the
placement of my new wound. The reason it caught me unawares is that the
homeowner at that spot had only cut the grass surrounding the outside, leaving
it perfectly camouflaged by a six-inch circle of taller grass, as if they were
hoping to hide the obstacle to cause the problem it did. I muttered a few choice
curses as I limped away, all the time keeping a wary eye out for signs they
might also have a tiger trap dug somewhere nearby. I'll never be able to
understand what people are thinking sometimes.
