Serious Sam 4 Revealed for 2014

Humble Mumble has details on the new Humble Weekly Sale, which offers a chance to pick up the entire Serious Sam series of not very serious first-person shooters. As usual, this allows customers to pick their own price while supporting charity with their purchases. This also includes the revelation of Serious Sam 4, saying that Croteam's proceeds from the proceedings will help fund the next installment in the franchise, which is expected in 2014, saying: "All funds to the developers in this weekly sale will go towards making the upcoming Serious Sam 4 the craziest and greatest Serious Sam game EVER."

Civilization V Free Weekend & Sale

Steam News announces a free weekend is underway for Sid Meier's Civilization V, and that the turn-based strategy sequel is on sale for 75% off (the links currently erroneously read "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive," but they point to the right place). Here's the recruiting pitch: "Become Ruler of the World by establishing and leading a civilization from the dawn of man into the space age: Wage war, conduct diplomacy, discover new technologies, go head-to-head with some of history’s greatest leaders and build the most powerful empire the world has ever known."

SimCity OS X Delayed, Patch Plans Detailed

The SimCity Website has word that the Mac OS X edition of SimCity is delayed until August because EA and Maxis "do not believe it is ready for primetime yet," you know, like the Windows edition was. Here's word on the delay, which also outlines near-future plans for patching the Windows edition:

Hi, Mayors – today we are announcing that we are moving the release date of the Mac version of SimCity to August. We have made this tough decision because we do not believe it is ready for primetime yet. We want to ensure the Mac is a great experience for our players and that is why we are taking more time.

In the meantime, on the PC side, we are currently working on a series of multiplayer and multi-city fixes and improvements that will be available in Update 5. To give you a preview of what’s to come, see the notes below.

You can expect Update 5 to hit in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned for more info on that. In addition to Update 5, we are already beginning work on Update 6, which will focus on RCI improvements, a lot of which we’ve gathered from fan feedback on our forums. Once we have the notes locked down, we’ll release them in our “Currently in Development” thread, like we’re doing today with Update 5.

One final note for our Mac fans: As a sincere thank you for patiently waiting to play, we are going to extend the availability of the SimCity Launch Park (released in Update 4) to all players who have purchased the Mac version. Now you, too, can launch a Llama balloon. Because who wouldn’t want to do that? Thanks again for your patience and understanding. See you in August!

GoD Factory: Wingmen Kickstarter

Here's a new Kickstarter for a new 4-on-4 space combat sim/MOBA called GoD Factory: Wingmen from Nine Dots Studio. The game is designed for use with the Oculus Rift headset, and the page has a video showing off the impact head-tracking has on gameplay. They seek $70,000 and plan on releasing the game this year for Windows and OS X. Here's word:

GoD Factory: Wingmen is a multiplayer space combat sim where the player works with a team of up to three other players to destroy the opponent’s Carrier while defending their own. In the game, the players must destroy different key areas of the enemy Carrier to incapacitate it and ultimately destroy it.

The Oculus Rift will provide the ultimate visual experience in an already visually stunning space arena. Players will be able to turn their heads for a full 360 degree view of the ship and surrounding space environment. The extra views will help the player in both gameplay and for an immersive experience like none other.

Path of Exile Patched

The Path of Exile website confirms the promised major patch went live, bringing the beta of Grinding Gear Games' action/RPG to version 0.11.0. They also detail a version 0.11.0b patch that quickly followed to address stability issues, and say a version 0.11.0c patch will is on the way to further pave the way for upcoming league play (and no, we do not understand a version numbering system where 0.11.0 is a major patch and that subsequent minor patches wouldn't simply be versions 0.11.1 and 0.11.2). They also say that they will begin offering new Open Beta Supporter Packs tomorrow along with the version 0.11.0c patch. Here are the patch notes for version 0.11.0.

Jagged Alliance Online Steam Re-Launch

bitComposer Games announces that Jagged Alliance Online has re-launched on Steam as a single-player and multiplayer game with more features and less play-to-win than it's web-based predecessor. They offer a release trailer and an online PvP trailer showing off the game, as well as two premium editions of the free-to-play game, a Shadow Edition and an Ivan Edition, each of which is 10% off during the launch sale. Here's the deal:

Eschborn, June 6, 2013: bitComposer Games, gamigo AG, and Cliffhanger Productions are bringing Jagged Alliance Online back to life on Steam as a single player and free multiplayer game.

Jagged Alliance Online enables the player to take on missions all over the world in PvP battles or in missions in order to improve his or her team, get the best equipment, and put together the toughest squad of mercenaries in the world. The new 3D graphics, the tried and true Jagged Alliance game mechanics for tactical turn-based battles, over 40 mercenaries, and over 500 different weapons and other equipment make Jagged Alliance Online the best that turn-based strategy has to offer.

All players can battle others in challenging PvP duels or work together with their alliances to conquer warzones in PvE. Jagged Alliance Online also includes an optional CAMPAIGN PACK, which allows players to immerse themselves in a high quality single player world, experiencing dozens of challenging missions across the globe. The CAMPAIGN PACK works like a normal download game: buy it once, and play it forever with no further purchase necessary.

The entire game is available ‘fair to play’ on Steam. This means that every piece of equipment in the game can be attained just by playing, without in-game premium currency: everything can be found or earned in game. The mercenary squad is of course fully operational in both game modes!

Here's more: "A Vampyre Story: Year One we hope will appeal to fans of A Vampyre Story, fans of Disney style animation and fans of “old school” Lucas Arts graphic adventures. It will even have the same puzzle driven game play and the same Graphical User Interface (or as we say in the biz, GUI) as The Curse of Monkey Island. The art style will use hand painted 2D backgrounds, and have 3D animation, real time lighting, and 3D characters models." Thanks The Adventuress.

Out of the Blue

There are a lot of significant dates and holidays that I will fail to remember, but today's is not one of them, as June 6th being the anniversary of D-Day is burned into my mind pretty permanently. Even more than Memorial Day or Veteran's Day, the knowledge of what unfolded on this date in 1944 really brings to mind the incredible sacrifices of soldiers, and serves as a stark reminder of how the horrors of war should be avoided. Here's a sincere salute to the greatest generation.
