actually released on Monday and got lost in the Memorial Day shuffle. No details
are offered on this sample of Techland's wild western shooter. Thanks Frans.

A new trailer is online
for HARDWARE: Shipbreakers, showing off the first look at gameplay from
the upcoming RTS from Blackbird Interactive, a new developer formed by veterans
of the development of Homeworld. Here's word on the clip: "This first gameplay
footage will show how the studio fully realizes the concept art into the actual
gameplay visuals. In the trailer, players will get a glimpse of some of the
action that can be expected from HARDWARE: Shipbreakers like commanding forces
across the vast landscape of LM-27, scouting for wrecks ripe for the claiming
before destroying their enemies." Continue here to read the full story.
Forbes - Tropes Vs. Women In Video Games Reveals An Ugly Truth.
After watching Tropes vs. Women in Video Games’ second episode, I didn’t
realize the alarming propensity with which developers use this as a plot
device. I have to admit it doesn’t anger me as a feminist so much as a
purveyor of strong, intelligent storytelling. We’re being fed the same,
cheap, easy plot device to justify our actions. This isn’t just demeaning to
women, it’s demeaning to gamers in general. It’s admittedly tricky ground
justifying our desire to shoot things repeatedly, but many games have
managed to find ways around this.
ZAM (thanks
Massively) has an official statement from Blizzard on
last night's rumor
that development of Blizzard's unannounced MMORPG codenamed Titan was
back to the drawing board after a 70% reduction in the game's development team,
setting back the game's release to at least 2016. While not addressing any of
the specifics, the statement indicates the report has the gist of the situation:
We've always had a highly iterative development process, and the
unannounced MMO is no exception. We've come to a point where we need to make
some large design and technology changes to the game. We're using this
opportunity to shift some of our resources to assist with other projects while
the core team adapts our technology and tools to accommodate these new changes.
Note that we haven't announced any dates for the MMO.
Daedalic Entertainment announces that Night of the Rabbit has dawned, so
to speak, as their new adventure game is now available via digital distribution
for Windows and OS X. There are two versions, one with the game, and a Special
Edition which adds the soundtrack as well as an audio book tie-in, and they note
they have made the first of these available as a free download (we'd offer a
link, but we can't find one). Here's word: The Night of the Rabbit is
available DRM-free on GOG, as well as in eight languages on Steam (full
localization: English & German; subtitles: Russian, French, Spanish, Czech,
Polish and Brazilian Portugese) launching today in two editions: For € 19.99 / $
19.99, players will receive the full game. The Special Edition of The Night of
the Rabbit, priced at € 24.99/ $24.99, additionally contains the audiobook “Of
Mice, Squirrels and Mousewood Forest” in English as well as the game’s original
soundtrack.
The Night of the Rabbit features beautiful, hand-drawn graphics and animations,
as well as a number of in-game extras, such as the audio book stories, “Eight
stories from Mousewood”, which can be activated while playing the game. All
these tales are based on the game’s setting, a magic forest inhabited by mice
and other talking creatures.
Daedalic Entertainment has published the first of these stories as a free
download to accompany the release.
A
post on MarvelHeroes.com from David Brevik explains the difficulties
Gazillion Entertainment has encountered in executing the early access launch
Marvel Heroes, their MMORPG starring Marvel Comics characters (thanks
Strategy Informer). This early access is for those who coughed up $199.00
for
The Ultimate Pack from the game's founder's program, so on some level this
is pretty serious business. The setback is caused by "some serious issues that
we felt we could not launch the game with" and that as of yesterday the entire
team had been chained to their desks for 96 straight hours, saying: "We will not
leave this studio until you can play the game. We hope this will be in a matter
of hours." Here's the full post: Today is a big day for everyone on the
Marvel Heroes team! We’re in the process of getting ready to put the game live,
but it’s going slower than we hoped.
Late last week, we found some serious issues that we felt we could not launch
the game with. The entire Marvel Heroes team has been working for the last 96
hours straight to get the game ready. This process is nearly complete and ask
for your patience.
We always want to find these types of potential errors, so we’re glad we had the
opportunity to fix them in advance of launch.
We will not leave this studio until you can play the game. We hope this will be
in a matter of hours.
For those who purchased Ultimate Packs, we’re working to get the game up and
running as soon as possible. We’ll issue updates here as we get them.
We appreciate your understanding,
The
Scrolls Website clears up some of the potential confusion Mojang invoked
when announcing next week's open beta launch of
Scrolls, their virtual card-based strategy game. The uncertainty stems
from how this announcement also included pricing information, which means this is not
as much an open beta (or not at all an open beta) and more of a soft launch for
the game. They explain this will work like it did in
Minecraft, aka "that other game, the one
with the Creepers." Here's word: What’s the deal with the “Beta”
status?
This Monday, you’re able to purchase Scrolls for £13/€15/$20. It’s not feature
complete – I’ll post more about our planned additions later this week – but
there’s still plenty to get your teeth into. Buy it at this discounted price and
you’ll get future updates for free. It’s like that other game, the one with the
Creepers.
The Store
This is where you get extra scrolls to pimp out your deck. Every item is
available for gold. A few can also be purchased for shards – our real-money
currency. I’ll be posting specific examples of how it works tomorrow, but it’s
worth mentioning that shards are completely optional, and will never be required
to stay competitive.
AMD
Downloads now offers new AMD Catalyst version 13.6 beta drivers for AMD/ATI
graphics cards. The Windows versions don't seem to have any new features to
inspire a gamer to roll the dice on a beta, but the Linux edition has a bunch of
bug fixes, including a couple for Team Fortress 2. Also of interest to
gamers should be the new version 13.5 Catalyst Application Profiles released
last week
on this page.
This YouTube trailer,
offered without description, shows off what appears to be a cockpit view mode in
GRID 2, even though Codemasters has stated no such feature is present in
the game. The clip is titled "GRID 2 Cockpit Camera Mod," and includes no
information on how this was accomplished, leading to speculation this may be
part of a future DLC release, but suggesting it could be enabled with a game
modification. Thanks Joao. Continue here to read the full story.
I've never considered myself a matchmaker, but I feel I've got a handle on a
good love connection here. I think we need to get
Justin Bieber and
Amanda Bynes together. They each need some sort of support system, and I'm
sure they'd be great for each other.
