Matrix Games announces Piercing Fortress Europa, the next addition to their
seemingly endless supply of World War II turn-based strategy games, which
their website says is "coming soon." Here's word on "the latest work of
veteran game designer Frank Hunter": This new
engaging strategy wargame covers the Allied invasion of Sicily and campaigns for
the Italian peninsula from 1943 through 1945. The title relates to Hitler’s
“Festung Europa” which referred to the plan to fortify the whole of occupied
Europe in order to prevent invasion from the British Isles by the Allied forces.
The player will have the chance to relive all the steps of the Italian Campaign,
with historical orders of battle and freedom of action limited only by realistic
logistics. All the units from Axis and Allies are represented (Britain, America,
Canada, Poland, New Zealand, India, Brazil, Germany, Italy, etc.) and the player
can choose to challenge the AI or a human opponent via PBEM.
Wit, speed and a long view will be required skills to execute a successful plan
with your brigades and divisions and secure victory in the campaign and the
“what if “ scenarios featured in Piercing Fortress Europa
Paradox Interactive announces a May 28th release date for Crusader Kings II:
The Old Gods, the Crusader Kings II expansion in development at
Paradox Development Studios. A
new trailer celebrates
the news with the first look at gameplay from this fourth add-on for the
strategy sequel. Here's the deal: NEW YORK – April 24, 2013 – Soon
Paradox Interactive and Paradox Development Studios will welcome you to a past
darker than you can imagine, where there are few shining knights or mighty
castles and the kings of Europe are more petty warlords than imposing rulers. We
stand only 400 years from the fall of Rome, and a mere 200 from the revelations
of Mohammed and much of the world still clings to an ancient code written with
iron and blood.
This is the world of Crusader Kings II: The Old Gods, and it is yours for the
taking on May 28.
The latest trailer for The Old Gods is the first trailer to show gameplay from
the expansion. Feast thy eyes on river-going vessels, the new map and brand new
powers that will compete for prestige and prominence.
Pray to the old gods or risk the wrath of Odin - watch the
trailer here
The Old Gods is the fourth full expansion for Crusader Kings II, Paradox’s
critically acclaimed strategy/RPG of medieval scheming, dynastic fortunes and
crusades against the unbeliever. The Old Gods expansion lets the player start
two hundred years earlier than the Crusader Kings II base game, at the height of
Viking power and when the light of Christianity had yet to penetrate many of the
dark forests of the continent, and the power of Islam was still on the rise.

Here's a new trailer
showing off Total War: Rome II, The Creative Assembly's upcoming sequel
to the RTS game that came back when the title was written as Rome: Total War.
They warn that this is from the alpha (calling it "pre-alpha footage," which is
not a thing), and is therefore "not fully representative of the final game," but
it does offer a full ten minutes of gameplay. Word is: "Experience one of
history’s most astounding ambushes in The Battle of Teutoburg Forest, recreated
in the Total War™ ROME II battle engine. Narrated by Creative Assembly staff,
this battle depicts the Roman Army caught in a carefully calculated assault by
the massed tribesmen of Germania." Continue here to read the full story.
BF4Central has a poster they say they obtained from an EB Games store in
Sydney Australia that lists some of the features in Battlefield 4,
including the return of Commander Mode to the military first-person shooter
sequel along with mention of Battlelog 2.0, and an expansion called "Drone
Strike." The poster has an October date, coinciding with
their post
about the upcoming shooter sequel being shown off in October at Australia's EB
Games Expo. The part about Commander Mode coincides with
a recent rumor that we skipped suspecting a hoax, and October is the release
date mentioned in a another sketchy rumor,
but a skeptic would note that if one hoax begat the other then this is not a
confirmation, and it seems odd to create a poster eight months in advance of the
event. The poster also has some oddities like a missing PC logo, PS3 and Xbox
logos placed on areas with deliberately poor contrast, and a lack of TM symbols
anywhere but the EB Games logo. However, the site says the got the poster from
the store, so it may be legit. We shall see.

2K
Games blogs about plans to unveil "a fresh look at the long-awaited
squad-based tactical shooter in development at 2K Marin" in the coming days.
This is to clear up the status of their XCOM shooter, a game they refer to in
the headline as [redacted], which plays into recent
implications the game was being rebranded and the
recent disappearance of its website. The
XCOM shooter has been a lightning rod for criticism due to its departure from
the roots of the series, and though it says "the game has undergone an evolution
since we last showed it to you at E3 2011," the post also indicates that
whatever changes are afoot, this will still be an XCOM game on some level, as
they refer to it as "a new experience within the world of XCOM" and a game which
has "evolved into a high-stakes narrative experience imbued with core XCOM
concepts."
A CAPCOM
financial presentation follows up on recent
word from CAPCOM some games were being cancelled based on the Japanese
publisher's financial situation. Word is that most of the games being axed were
not expected in the coming year, and none of them have been announced: "There
were a few titles scheduled for the current fiscal year, but most of the
cancelations were for releases planned in the fiscal year ending March 2015 and
subsequent fiscal years. No titles that had already been announced were
canceled." Thanks
Siliconera.
Here's a new trailer
from Lost Planet 3 showing off multiplayer action from the upcoming
continuation of the sci-fi shooter series. Translating the
Japanese
page on which this is posted doesn't shed much light on this other than to
say the images shown are still under development. The clip also includes no PC
branding among the logos at the end, in spite of Windows support for the game
already being confirmed, so presumably this is an oversight. Thanks
VG247. Continue here to read the full story.
Batman: Arkham Origins will include multiplayer support, according to a
rumor
on Kotaku they say they can "confirm" after verifying their anonymous
source's tip with a second anonymous source. They also describe how this is
supposed to work, but this is only from their first source, though they are
comfortable sharing it because the source previously predicted how the cover art
for the Batman stealth/action sequel. They say one aspect of this will involve
playing as a gang member working for The Joker or Bane fighting Batman and
Robin, since in the comics and movies those henchmen are never effortlessly
dismissed by the heroes.
New AMD graphics card reviews today.
Playing the Knicks last night, the Celtics pulled their starters when they were
down by 14 points with four minutes left in the game. I'm pretty sure I've never
seen an NBA team surrender like that during the regular season, much less the
playoffs, so that was pretty shocking. But I'm not going to complain, as it
prevented Knicks killer Paul Pierce from pulling off some sort of miracle
comeback. If
Reggie
Miller could score eight points in 11 seconds (actually, according to
almost all accounts it
was eight points in 8.9 seconds) to win a playoff game against the Knicks in
1995 after the Pacers were losing by six with under 19 seconds remaining, then I
imagine the whole Celtics team should not have ruled out the possibility of
coming back.
