EA has updated
SimCity to version 1.4, and
this forum post has the patch notes. Meanwhile,
SimCity Update #2 from Lucy has the latest from Maxis on adding server capacity, apologizing for downtime invoked as original servers are taken offline one by one as part of an upgrade process. Finally,
EA's SimCity account tweets about the possibility that they will eventually remove the online requirement for the new SimCity to earn back gamer's trust following its
unsuccessful launch, though this won't be right away (thanks nin). Word is:
We have no intention of offlining SimCity any time soon but we'll look into that as part of our earning back your trust efforts.
The
Sale on Steam on
Max Payne 3 has exhausted their supply of CD Keys for the game, in an odd shortage of the digits required to authenticate the shooter sequel. Word is: "We are currently out of CD Keys. More CD Keys have been requested and will delivered once available." This does not seem to be comfort to the participants in the
Max Payne 3 Steam Community, were unhappiness abounds. Thanks Rowe.
A
Kickstarter campaign from indie developer teamPixel renews
their efforts to crowdsource funding to acquire the Homeworld IP that is
up for sale following
the bankruptcy of THQ (thanks Ivan). They have some cash from
an Indiegogo campaign and are now looking for at least $50K to support them acquiring the IP for the sci-fi RTS series and produce a new game for Windows/OS X ("together with the modding community"), a remake of the original for iOS/Android, and a Homeworld rerelease on GOG.com. These modest requirements are addressed by their explanation that there is additional funding for this and their plan to enlist volunteer support:
In addition to our own own private equity, lender, and investor financing, we're looking to the Kickstarter community to supplement our available funds for licensing and executing this project. Unlike a corporately-sponsored production, a teamPixel-produced Homeworld would be an indie studio undertaking which we believe will bring development closer to the gaming community than previous Homeworld productions. Our minimum goal is $50,000 to be added to our present funds, but we're hoping fans will help carry us beyond that threshold. This fundraiser is a huge opportunity for you to end the stagnation of a legendary franchise and steer the course of future games!
In addition, we're looking to the modding community for interested designers and developers to contribute to the undertaking. Along with our main staff, we already have a few modders in line to help, and together we can create a future for the franchise the fans have been waiting for while also giving the legacy games some well-deserved attention.

Okay, so we lost that hour. And no one seemed to love my idea about daylight saving time either. Since I've said many times in the past I'd prefer year-round DST, I think I failed to make the point that my new scheme was an alternate if all-year DST was never going to happen. I saw the discussion of everyone going by GMT, but I think that might be harder to deal with than people imagine, but maybe not. Oh well, it's all moot after we switch to stardates anyway.
