The Diablo III Website
has the promised
status report on PvP in Diablo III
. Word is the team deathmatch mode, which was deemed not ready
to meet the launch date for the action/RPG sequel, is deemed still not ready for release. Jay Wilson explains Blizzard is "shelving" Team Deathmatch, citing a lack of depth to the experience and an unwillingness to balance classes to the extent required by such a mode. This is not preventing the addition of simple dueling in a version 1.07 patch promised for sometime after the new year, and he says they will continue to work the problem of what to offer in lieu of Team Deathmatch. Here's a bit:
So, our core problem is that our Team Deathmatch mode doesn't feel like a great addition to Diablo III. It's not up to the quality that Blizzard gamers expect or that we feel you deserve, and it doesn't really fit with our goals for the rest of the game. The question now is what are we going to do about it?
First and foremost, if our original goal was to support dueling, then we're not achieving that goal very well if we don’t actually give players a way to duel in-game. You’ve been asking us for dueling for a while, so we're going to add it to the game soon. Dueling is currently scheduled to release with patch 1.0.7, which is set to hit sometime after the new year. (We'll be providing details about that feature very soon, so stay tuned.)
But as I mentioned before, we are going back to the drawing board on a new replacement for Team Deathmatch, something that feels more appropriate for Diablo III. And as we stated previously, regardless of when we release it, it'll be a free addition to the game. Team Deathmatch provided us with the foundation that we needed and served us well. Hell, it may even still be added in some form in the future. For now, though, we're going to first be looking at new modes that play up to the strengths of the character classes, focus on objectives beyond just defeating other players, and possibly even integrate PvE elements and rewards.
World of Tanks Korea
is now live, offering Wargaming.net's MMO shooter to a new territory. "It's a great day for the whole team. World of Tanks has been a huge success globally, and the Supertest in Korea has shown that the game has the brightest prospects in the market," said Chankuk Park, General Manager, Korea. "I'm sure that World of Tanks will be able to gain more and more gamer attention in Korea, thanks to the game's profoundness both strategically and gameplay-wise."
The storm that hit yesterday wasn't as bad here as elsewhere, just some rain and snow, though there are reports of deaths associated with this, so we were obviously lucky, and our thoughts are with those less fortunate. Today is the third day of Christmas, which will explain things if your true love just gifted you with three French hens, two turtle doves and a, well you know. It also seems exceedingly quiet for game news, so while I was planning on doing another full roundup at the end of the day, there may not be much happening, so we'll just play it by ear. It seems likely things may not pick up again until after the new year. We shall see.
R.I.P.: Gerry Anderson, Thunderbirds creator, dies
now offers presales of A Valley Without Wind 2
, the upcoming platformer sequel. Those who purchase the game prior to its release in February will get immediate access to the beta version, and will also receive a free copy of the original A Valley Without Wind. If this all doesn't provide enough incentive, the game is currently on sale for 60% off the regular price.
German site GBase.ch
has word from I-FRIQIYA that February is when to expect the release of the PC edition of Fuel Overdose
, the oddly named tactical/action/racing game. They also have word that the game is now available for the PlayStation 3, but that due to some sort of glitch, you have to actively search to find it. They cap the news off with a recently released trailer
showing off the game. Continue here to read the full story

NYTimes.com - Game Theory- Making Room for the Women.
Unfortunately this rise in so-called casual play has upset some of those who see themselves as guardians of the true flame. There’s been a definite backlash against the idea that women are entering the hallowed citadel, dropping in a few scatter cushions and ending all the fun. Particular ire is reserved for anyone who dares to point out that female characters in games are often unsupported in the bra region for no apparent reason; given boring, bland supporting roles; and totally absent.
Happy Boxing Day, Kwanzaa, Second Day of Christmas, Wren Day, Bulgarian Father's Day, St. Stephen's Day, and more. That's right, today is practically an entre holiday season unto itself. MrsBlue and I had a lovely Christmas, actually venturing out to spend the evening with some friends, who cooked up a lovely dinner. Here's hoping things were equally pleasant for you. That may be tough in some areas of the country, as apparently there are some really severe winter storms out there, so here's also hoping you stay safe. I guess we'll know how bad this is soon enough, because apparently the whole mess is heading our way.
