Perhaps proving all the good games have been taken, Oddworld Inhabitants and developer Just Add Water announce
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee New N' Tasty!, is the official title for their upcoming remake of
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee.
Eurogamer has their explanation that the Abe's Oddysee HD title was not appropriate because it implies a sprucing up of an old game, as opposed to them "starting from nothing and rebuilding an entire game from scratch," which may slightly contradict their other point that: "We've not changed it. We've just modernised it because it's not a flip screen game any more." They offer
a trailer of the game's presentation at the Eurogamer Expo, and the following explanation of the remake:
Lanning said the new 3D graphics mean JAW can take a "retro neo approach" to showing off the game world. All the FMVs from the original are now rendered in real-time using the game engine without breaks in the gameplay.
The level design and puzzles are 80-90 per cent the same as in the original. Gilray provided an example of a difference. "In the original game, the fifth screen into it, there was a sleeping Slig. When you walked into the screen he woke up. To reset it you just walked off screen and came back on screen again creeping. We don't have flip screens any more, so we've made it so he times out. Say he walks around for 10 seconds and you haven't moved, he won't have heard anything and will go back to sleep again.

Nyrthos Website has details on the game, including an Alpha FAQ and word on alpha access for preorder customers. Here's a little on the game: "Our game also features a day / night / weather cycle that strongly impacts the game world; simply put, the night is very dark and deadly, so many actions have to be performed during the day. The cycle influences enemies, spawnable items and resources, events and other stuff. We love it!"

We had a fine old family outing yesterday, and the pastrami was exceptional, so a good time was had by all. It was a bit of an adventure on the roads, however, as we were confronted by a startling number of drivers who had difficulty staying even remotely in their own lane. My temptation is to blame it on cell phones, but in spite of seeing evidence that it was in some cases, it makes me feel like an old fogey to say that.
