Croteam and Devolver Digital announce Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile, DLC that will bring new campaign missions and the return of some familiar enemies and weapons. Here's word on the pack, which is expected in October: Croteam and Devolver Digital have announced Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile, an all-new series of missions for the blockbuster gonzo-shooter Serious Sam 3: BFE that is set to release on PC October 2012. The explosive new expansion will contain three new campaign missions set within the story of Serious Sam 3: BFE and follow Sam “Serious” Stone as he tracks down a powerful artifact on an ancient island to swing the tide of battle against Mental’s invading alien horde.
“Croteam is very excited about the reception Serious Sam 3: BFE received from our fans so we’ve worked really hard to make sure the Jewel of the Nile expansion tells more of Sam’s story and cranks up the insanity,” said Davor Hunski, Chief Creative Guy at developer Croteam.

The OddBlog announces plans for a Steam beta for the HD edition of Oddworld Stranger's Wrath (thanks Arnold). Here's the deal: Just Add Water have opened applications for a closed beta of the Steam version of Stranger’s Wrath HD. In a post on the official Steam forums, Liamaj (JAW game designer Liam Jones) announced that JAW want “to test Stranger’s Wrath HD PC on as many different PC set ups as [they] can”. Applications for the beta are open – the forum post has provided people interested in participating with an email address and a list of information to provide to JAW, including their Steam username and PC hardware specifications. As this is a closed beta, not every applicant will be invited to participate. Additionally, since the beta is being run through Steam, only people who own the Steam version of Stranger’s Wrath can participate.
Kotaku has a trailer from Project Copernicus that was intended as an introduction to 38 Studios' MMORPG before the demise of developer 38 Studios. The clip is not a finished product, as it includes some placeholder voiceovers, but it offers a look at how this game would have been presented had it been completed.
Rockstar is expanding its operations at its Toronto studio, and is closing its Vancouver studio, saying they will offer the 35 employees displaced by the Vancouver closure jobs in Toronto and elsewhere, reports GameInformer. Word is this will involve adding 50 new positions to the Toronto studio in an expansion that's being assisted by a "strategic partnership with the Ontario government." Both Rockstar Toronto and Rockstar Vancouver participated in development of Max Payne 3.
Valve announces Steam Greenlight, an upcoming program to support small game development, akin to the film Project Greenlight, but hopefully with less Shia LaBeouf. They say "Making the call to publish or not publish a title isn't fun," so we have that to look forward to as of August 30th. Here's word: Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Steam Greenlight, a new platform feature that enlists the community's help in selecting some of the next games to be released on Steam.
Steam Greenlight will allow developers and publishers to post information and media about their game in an effort to convince the Community that their game should be released on Steam. Greenlight piggybacks on Steam Workshop's flexible system that organizes content and lets customers rate and leave feedback.
As well as serving as a clearing house for game submissions, Greenlight will provide an incredible level of added exposure for new games and an opportunity to connect directly with potential customers and fans.
"Making the call to publish or not publish a title isn't fun," said Anna Sweet, at Valve. "Many times opinions vary and our internal jury is hung on a decision. But with the introduction of the Steam Workshop we realized an opportunity to enlist the community's help as we review certain titles and, hopefully, increase the volume and quality of creative submissions."
Steam Greenlight will be released August 30.
The ArenaNet Blog has details on the upcoming final beta test of Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet's upcoming MMORPG sequel (thanks nin). Word is this will include the last two playable races: For our final Beta Weekend Event (July 20-22), we’re making the asura and sylvari races available to beta players for the first time. Players will be able to create characters from any of the five main races of Tyria—human, norn, charr, asura, and sylvari—and begin their Guild Wars 2 experience in any of the five radically different home regions.
For asura players, this means beginning your tale in Metrica Province, a vivid, exotic jungle area full of high-tech laboratories, quirky golems, and competing krewes of mad scientists. Nearby, the massive monoliths of the asuran capital Rata Sum hum with technomagical power. These diminutive geniuses may seem cute at first glance, but never underestimate an asura…
Sylvari players begin their story in the Grove, a luminous living city nestled in the shade of the Pale Tree, the “mother” of every member of this young race of plant humanoids. The sylvari are an enigmatic race of chivalrous explorers who are driven by an insatiable curiosity and guided by a collective Dream.
If you’ve played in previous beta events, you know that each playable race has its own distinct regions, signature city, and personal storyline options. But above all, each race in Guild Wars 2 has its own identity, and the asura and sylvari perfectly illustrate this.
We can’t wait to see players drinking in the mystical atmosphere of the Grove or stopping alchemagical experiments running amok in Metrica Province during our last Beta Weekend Event before launch. If you want to reserve a spot in the beta, pre-purchase your copy of Guild Wars 2 today.
We’ll see you in-game on July 20-22! Excelsior!
We now have the official announcement for Terminal Reality's The Walking Dead game revealed last week, which refers to the project as a "do-whatever-you-need-to-survive first-person action game." The Walking Dead Begins website is now online, and brave, bold Sir Robin will be pleased to note the game will promote his favored "run away" technique: Think you’re tough enough to survive a horde of undead walkers? Gamers will be able to find out next year as Activision Publishing Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), and Terminal Reality announced today an all-new The Walking Dead™ video game. Based on AMC’s Emmy-Award winning TV series, the do-whatever-you-need-to-survive first-person action game will allow players to assume the role of the mysterious, crossbow-wielding survivor Daryl Dixon, alongside his overbearing brother Merle, on a haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta.
“The work AMC has done with the TV series has been amazing and we’re ecstatic at the opportunity to be brought into the fold,” said Drew Haworth, Creative Director at Terminal Reality. “The studio is made up of fans of the show, and we think other fans will see that the situations and walkers featured in our game are every bit as gruesome and shocking as they are in the TV series – they look, move and react as expected with full authenticity – and they will surprise you. The player’s fight-or-flight survival instinct is constantly engaged. ‘Flight’ is usually a good bet.”

This is not an official date for the shooter sequel, just a retailer listing that's fuel for speculation, but it is also not an April Fools' joke, as this corresponds to the March 29th date being listed for the game on Amazon.co.uk that was noticed by Videogamer.com, where they also show the marketing materials for a an "Upper Echelon" Limited Edition, which will add bonus digital content to the stealth/action sequel.

One of the frustrations of being prominent in a secret society is all the secrecy, so Funcom has launched public beta testing of The Secret World Chronicle, an online leaderboard for The Secret World, their conspiratorial MMORPG. Here's the explanation from Ragnar Tørnquist: I'm really happy and excited to announce the first public beta of a shiny new feature we've been working on (in total secrecy!) for the past couple of months:
Chronicle.
Chronicle is a record -- a chronicle! -- of your character's journey through the secret world, and includes a character profile together with a collection of leaderboards covering both PvE and PvP.
We're launching our first public beta phase today, and everyone's invited! The service will remain in beta for the time being and contain a limited set of features, but Chronicle will continue to expand and grow together with our community and the game.

The JC2-MP Website has word that this multiplayer modification for Just Cause 2 is back in development. A testing session just concluded, and this Dorkly video shows just how out of control things get when you get more than on Rico Rodriguez in the mix. Word is the test was allowing people with pirated copies of the game to play, but its final release will require a legit copy of Just Cause 2 registered on Steam.
There's an internet outage here in the BlueTower, as my stupdfast(TM) cable modem is not connecting to anything, leaving me on my handy (but slower) DSL line to connect. I spoke with a techie and it sounds like the problem may simply be my modem, so I will drop by one of their locations and swap it, hoping that will fix things.
R.I.P.: Actor Ernest Borgnine dead at 95. Thanks nin.
