The Battlefield Blog announces details on a new "matches" feature coming in the future to Battlefield 3 (thanks BF3Blog). Here's a bit on what these matches will bring to the military shooter sequel: We’re taking the next step in advancing online competitive play in the Battlefield 3 community. The “Matches” feature will allow players to coordinate competitive multiplayer sessions with their friends and squad members. Battlefield 3 players will be able to select the time, server, game settings, and roster for their Matches creating a controlled and definitive environment for competitive play.
Players will be able to coordinate Matches for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 through the Battlelog. To coordinate a Match a player must be actively renting a dedicated server. Once a dedicated server has been selected the Match host can set the Match name, start time, game mode, team size, and map rotations.

Gamereactor UK offers some quotes from back at E3 where they caught up with Tim "Sam" Willits, creative director at id Software. When asked about RAGE, he reassures them there "may" be an announcement soon regarding the shooter: "We have a few things that we may announce soon. We haven't forgotten about the title." Thanks VG247.

Ars Technica - Blizzard admits Diablo III is a game that ends.
Just how long should players expect a game to remain fresh and exciting? Do publishers have to treat all AAA games as services that keep us constantly entertained for years or even decades? Have MMOs trained us to feel entitled to games that never actually end? These are the questions that have been circling my head after reading Blizzard's response to player complaints about the lack of compelling "endgame" content in Diablo III.
Shacknews.com - Diablo 3's poorly planned end-game.
It's a shame that a company with Blizzard's pedigree couldn't have foreseen the monotony and disillusionment that could creep in less then two months after the game's release. Blizzard has some good storytellers and a fantastic animation staff. Something as intriguing as Halo 4's planned Spartan Ops episodic content would have been enough to keep me engrossed until the inevitable expansion, even if it was every month instead of every week.
In the end, I guess, players with the same mentality as die-hard MMO players will continue to populate the Diablo III servers. Diablo III was an enjoyable game for the first 80 hours.
The Wargame - European Escalation Website now offers free DLC called Conquest for Eugen Systems' real-time strategy game. This is accompanied by a 50% off sale on the game on Steam all weekend. Here's word on the free DLC: This new, entirely free DLC first offers a new multiplayer mode: “Conquest”! With 7 new maps, this mode will shake up habits and strategies of players, by adding on the battlefields numerous control zones of a new type, whose capture is essential for victory. Of course, this new mode is also playable against the AI, for everyone who wishes to practice before facing generals from all around the globe.
The Siege mode, introduced to Wargame with the last DLC, is enriched with 2 new battlefields, while Destruction and Conquest modes welcome a newly-designed map: “Mecklenburg”!
This new free DLC also brings a load of improvements, notably in the various multiplayer mode’s menus, with a better visibility of players waiting for a ranked game, or better clarity in the option choices during the creation of a game. Finally, many units have had their stats updated for better balancing.
The Scrolls Website announces that Mojang's new game is entering the alpha testing phase today (thanks VG247). Here's the deal: First off, we will start by sending out quite a modest number of codes. However, as time progresses, we will send out more. So if you do not get one, don’t lose hope!
The code for alpha access will be distributed by e-mail and the recipients will be selected at random from the list of people that signed up for it. We are currently not looking to add more people to this list, so if you are not on it, you will have to wait until the open beta, i’m afraid.
Currently, the alpha includes:

The Kickstarter for Dead State is in the home stretch, as it will conclude at about 5:30 pm EDT today (thanks nin). Word is: This is it – the last 24 hours of the Kickstarter! This is the last chance to fund Dead State and meet our stretch goals. As of yesterday, two more of our stretch goals have been met and we’re well on our way to meeting our $300k stretch goal and unlocking the additional challenge of the City maps and a brand new ally.
With 24 hours left, there’s a few things we can do to help reach $300k and beyond. A lot of that is going to depend on reaching new backers and reminding people that this is their last chance to pledge or upgrade their pledge.

Well we survived Independence Day well enough. The fireworks got started and Hudson the wonder dog and I came up to my office, put on the air conditioner, and sang the thunder buddies theme song. It wasn't great for her, but it's been far worse in the past. I assume the fireworks are not completely done with, but we can hope they are finished with the worst of it.
