Ad Says Guild Wars 2 Next Month

Kotaku has a photo of an ad found in in a Fry's store in Texas promoting preorders of Guild Wars 2, offering a June 28, 2012 date for ArenaNet's MMORPG sequel. Noting that GameStop lists a June 26th date for the game, they reached out to NCsoft and received the following response: "We have not released an official launch date within 2012 as feedback from our closed and open marketing betas will help us determine an exact release date. We will release Guild Wars 2 when it is ready."

Signups to beta test the game are still being conducted on the Hawken Website. "HAWKEN wants to be free and it wants to be everywhere - and with Gaikai, it will be," stated Mark Long, CEO at Meteor Entertainment. "Their tech is the next level. It's mind blowing to see HAWKEN running on a tablet!"

Ubisoft Financials

Gamasutra has details on Ubisoft's full-year financial reporting, where they show $47.7 million in profits, an improvement over last year's loss of $73 million, attributing this in part to a "leap" in digital and online sales. Word is: "€578 million ($739 million) of Ubisoft's annual revenues came from core titles like Assassin's Creed: Revelations and the aforementioned The Settlers Online, while €483 million ($618 million) was attributed to casual titles like the company's popular Just Dance series and Rocksmith."

They also state the Saints Row franchise has sold more than 11 million units, that Saints Row: The Third has shipped more than 4.25 million units, and that Saints Row: The Third has generated the highest digital revenue of any console title in the company’s history.

Ships Ahoy - Game of Thrones RPG

ATLUS announces the North American release of Game of Thrones, the RPG based on the A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels (apparently Game of Thrones: The Game was just a working title, awesome as it is). Here's the news:

Martin and the critically acclaimed HBO® television series, Game of Thrones®, is now available in stores across North America for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and PC via download.

Moreover, the game includes the likenesses of fan favorite characters from the television adaptation. "Game of Thrones" promises to deliver the ultimate interactive roleplaying experience for fans of the series and its gritty, sophisticated medieval drama.

The Secret World Beta Event This Weekend

Funcom announces they are launching the second closed beta event for The Secret World on Friday. All who have preordered the conspiratorial MMORPG will be entitled to participate, and they are also handing out beta keys through some European websites, which are listed on this page. Here's word on the event:

Funcom is excited to announce that the next Beta Weekend for its upcoming modern-day massively multiplayer online game ‘The Secret World’ will start on May 18th at 9am PDT / 6pm CET and run until Sunday May 20th at 11.59pm PDT / May 21st 8.59am CET. During this Beta Weekend players get to pick up where they left off with the same character they played during the first Beta Weekend, as they get to meet all-new characters in Kingsmouth each with their own unique missions and storylines.

The best way to gain access to the Beta Weekend is to pre-order ‘The Secret World’. This grants access to all Beta Weekends leading up to launch. Funcom is also teaming up with major websites all over Europe this week to conduct a massive giveaway of keys for this weekend only, and this is a great way for gamers to have a look at the game before pre-ordering.

TERA Patched

The North American TERA Website and the European Website for the MMORPG both announce the launch of a new patch for the MMORPG, bringing the game to version 1.0.29 in Europe and an inexplicable version 17.29.01 in the Americas. Here are the North American patch notes and the European patch notes.

Infinity Ward Collects $42M in Royalties

The Verge has word that Activision has paid out $42 million in royalties to the group known as the "Infinity Ward Employee Group" who sued the publisher in 2010 over unpaid royalties from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Word is this is not a settlement, and the group is entitled to pursue their litigation as they say they are still owed more money. The group's attorney calls the payment a "cynical attempt to look good before the jury trial," and "although it is a meaningful payment it is only a small portion of what we are seeking in litigation. It is outrageous that they made us wait, they obviously knew they owed the money and this just shows that they breached the contract." The story suggests Activision was withholding these payments in the belief they might harm their case in their ongoing legal battle with former Infinity Ward bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella. Thanks Develop.

Out of the Blue

Well it seems some game or another is live as of today. I know some are not on board with Diablo III, but after the memorable experiences with the first two games, my friends and I are not going to be resisting the allure of New Tristram any more than we did the old one. We even considered trying to play on launch until we learned that was going to be midnight Pacific time (which did not deter everyone), so we avoided the initial crush, and will just have to content ourselves with the secondary crush today.
