The STALKER Twitter Feed offers a vague status report on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, the first-person shooter sequel with the uncertain future. Word is: "There are legal reasons why we have not made an 'official' statement. But Stalker 2 development continues." Thanks VG247.

F1 2012 in September; New Trailer

Codemasters announces a September release window for F1 2012 and offers a new trailer from the next installment in the Formula One Racing simulation series. Here's word:
Ahead of the first race of the 2012 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in Melbourne this weekend, Codemasters today announced that F1 2012 will launch worldwide in September for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC. F1 2012 is the next game in the award-winning, multi-million selling series from Codemasters as part of an exclusive multi-year deal with Formula One World Championship Limited.

To mark the announcement and introduce one of F1 2012’s new headline features, Codemasters has released a video following F1 2012 Creative Director, Stephen Hood, as he meets the next generation of drivers at the Young Driver Test. Filmed at the Yas Marina Circuit, home of the FORMULA 1 Abu Dhabi GRAND PRIX, Stephen asks if their experience with Codemasters’ FORMULA ONE™ games has been of benefit as they prepare for a career in the world’s most exciting motorsport in real life. Grim Dawn Trailer

This new trailer shows off what's described as pre-alpha footage from Grim Dawn, the upcoming action/RPG in the works at Crate Entertainment. The clip shows the Occultist class and a portion of the Abandoned Waterfront area, including gameplay showing projectiles being shot out of the air.

Fan Created Wing Commander Saga Nears

Gnome's Lair offers details on Wing Commander Saga: The Darkest Dawn, a continuation of the Wing Commander series being created by fans of the space combat series using the Freespace 2 engine. Word on Eurogamer is this has the approval from EA, and it will be released in a few days. In the meantime, this trailer shows off the game. Thanks Joao.

Take On Helicopters Patch

The Take On Helicopters updates page offers a new patch to update Bohemia Interactive's flight simulator to version 1.05. The download is mirrored on The Patches Scrolls, and the automatic patch for the Steam edition is also available. Here's word on what's new:

  • Horizontal stabilizers can be configured to move with collective
  • SACLOS missile support added (manually guided)

The Elder Scrolls MMOG Announcement in May?

Citing an "industry source that wishes to remain anonymous," Tom's Guide reports a rumor that in May Bethesda Softworks will announce an MMOG based on The Elder Scrolls series of RPGs. The speculative story has few details, but word is the game will take place during the "Second Era" of the series, and will feature three playable factions. Thanks PC Gamer.

Out of the Park Baseball 13 Next Month

OOTP Developments announces Out of the Park Baseball 13 will be released next month, coinciding with the beginning of the new Major League Baseball season. The game will be released to the public on April 9th, but those who preorder will get a head start with the game beginning on April 6th. Word is: "We've also overhauled the interface in OOTP 13, enhanced online league play, improved the core gameplay engine, and more." Tech 4 SDK Plans

Planet Doom has word on a project to package up the Tech 4 engine source code from DOOM 3 that was recently released under the GNU GPL by id Software. The goal is to create a polished SDK along the lines of the UDK & Unity engines. Thanks Ant.

Wasteland 2 Kickstarted; OS X and Linux Thresholds Near

inXile Entertainment announces their recently launched Wasteland 2 Kickstarter Campaign reached its $900,000 goal within 48 hours, and the fund to support development of the post-apocalyptic RPG sequel currently stands at over $1.1 million, and word is they are nearing the point where they can commit to Linux and OS X support:
In a message posted to all of the backers of the project, inXile said, "This is a paradigm shift that is bigger than Wasteland 2. This is the beginning of a new era in gaming where the developer gets to work directly with the fans to build the type of product that the fans want. The games are fan funded with fan input and use digital distribution methods to bypass both publishers and retail.

The latest status of the now funded project has the number of backers at over 20,000 and the funds pledge at over 1.1 Million Dollars. With over 30 days left until the funding ends, Fargo has hopes of being able to soon announce more features that will be added to the project, saying, "The fact that our supporters are buying in at an average of over $55 each says a lot about the level of dedication the fans have towards this product. No matter how much money is raised, all of it will go into making the best game we possibly can." On the strength of this early success and in response to popular request, he has already added a Linux version to go along with the Mac version at the rapidly approaching $1.5 million milestone.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Beta Patch

The Bethesda Blog has details on a new version 1.5 beta for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that's now available through Steam for owners of the RPG sequel. The new version includes a bunch of bug fixes as well as the following list of new features, including new kill cams:

  • New cinematic kill cameras for projectile weapons and spells
  • New kill moves and animations for melee weapons
  • Shadows on grass available (PC)
  • Smithing skill increases now factor in the created item’s value
  • Improved visual transition when going underwater
  • Improved distance LOD transition for snowy landscapes
