Baldur's Gate Tease

A new Baldur's Gate Website is online, though for mow it offers little more than a quote and some theme music. After determining this belongs to Beamdog, the digital distributor that put out MDK2 HD, the folks at GameBanshee reached out to former BioWare designer Trent Oster, co-founder of Beamdog, and got him to tell them this about whatever the site is for: "We're not related to the Steam complete edition, I can tell you that much. Other than that, we're hoping to announce something soon."

DOOM 4 Screenshots? Cancellation Rumor Denied

A bunch of screenshots allegedly from DOOM 4 have surfaced, you can view these over on All Games Beta where they add: "Rumor: Doom 4 cancelled" with no further explanation. This doesn't seem a very substantial rumor, but Game Informer's Jim Reilly tweets it was worthy of debunking: "Bethesda says Doom 4 is not canceled" (thanks Xbox 360 - The Official Magazine). This is not the first rumor about d Software's upcoming shooter sequel that parent Bethesda has addressed in recent months, as in October they denied reports that the game was indefinitely postponed due to problems with the launch of RAGE.

Blacklight Retribution Open Beta

The Blacklight Retribution Website is now offering open beta access to this free-to-play first-person shooter sequel in the works at Zombie Studios. This page outlines various events that they are running in conjunction with the beta. There's also a lengthy interview on Neowin.net talking about the game with executive producer Andy Kipling, covering topics such as the reasons for a Blacklight sequel, the game's near-future setting, game modes, weapons, and more.

Ships Ahoy - Assassin's Creed Revelations: The Lost Archive

The Lost Archive DLC is now available for Assassin's Creed Revelations, offering some story-driven content for the stealth/action sequel. The DLC is available on the Ubisoft Online Store and Steam, and here's word on what it offers:

Explore the mysterious pasts of Subject 16 and Lucy Stillman in two hours of all-new content using the innovative narration style and puzzle-platforming gameplay pioneered in the present-day Desmond sequences of Assassin’s Creed® Revelations. Also included in this pack is a bonus single-player mission, Vlad the Impaler’s Prison, which unlocks the terrifying Vlad Tepes’ Sword. You will gain access to a variety of armor, outfits, and weapon upgrades for Ezio to use in the campaign. Armor and outfits include: the Armor of Brutus, Ezio’s Ultimate Armor, and Altaïr’s Robe. You’ll also receive upgrades to the Hidden Gun, the Crossbow, and Bombs. In addition, you will unlock three new multiplayer characters: the Ottoman Jester, the Crusader, and the Ottoman Doctor.

World of Warcraft Patched

The World of Warcraft Website announces a new update is now live on all realms that brings Blizzard's MMORPG to version 4.3.3. The notes on this are very short, as it fixes several client-side bugs and modifies code and content support for the Scroll of Resurrection system.

On Ghost Recon Online Matchmaking

Ghost Recon.net has some details on the matchmaking system planned for Ghost Recon Online, the upcoming multiplier Ghost Recon shooter, saying these come to them from "sources." Word is the game will make use of a system developed at the University of Montreal. Here's the somewhat vague explanation: "The team there have developed an advanced matchmaking algorithm that goes beyond simply comparing players skill levels in an attempt to achieve a balanced game. Using several data sources from player accounts, the new system is designed to offer players a fuller more fun experience than would normally be achieved by simply pitting similarly rated players against each other."

Auditorium on Steam; Auditorium 2 Kickstart

Steam now offers the release of Auditorium, the particle-based puzzle game for Windows and OS X. There's no demo there, but there's a demo version here. Those who enjoy the game may want to head over to the Kickstarter campaign for Auditorium 2: Duet, Cipher Prime's upcoming sequel. Word is:

Duet will build faithfully on all the essential elements of the beloved original; players will still be creating music by bending dazzling rivers of light and color through brain-twisting puzzles. But it’s also going to be so much more. The last time around we invited you into our Auditorium. Now we want you all to come back and play together!

Techpocalypse Kickstart

A new Kickstarter campaign looks to fund a game called Techpocalypse from Anomaly Labs. This is a post-apocalyptic social game, and here's word on what makes it different: "Seeing the popularity of 'social' games whose social aspects boil down to spamming friends on Facebook, we had to ask ourselves: Wouldn't people rather play games together? Isn't it more rewarding to collaborate with other people and succeed as a group? After all, our fondest gaming memories involve just that: playing with friends and beating the odds together. Techpocalypse is an ambitious experiment to test that hypothesis. It's a game where you actually work with the rest of your tribe and depend on them - just as you would in a real post-apocalyptic scenario."

Gary Grigsby's War in the East Patch

Matrix Games has a new patch for Gary Grigsby's War in the East to update this WWII strategy "mega game" to version 1.06.04. The update paves the way for this week's release of the Don to the Danube expansion, but has lots to offer on its own, as word is: "This massive free update includes hundreds of improvements to gameplay, including a more challenging AI, improved game balance, improved aircraft data, interface improvements, an improved scenario editor and a new editor manual and a new small scenario on the Demyansk Pocket."

Spicy Horse's Jack and the Beanstalk Plans

A Wall Photo on the Spicy Horse Facebook Page has a piece of concept art accompanied by the following explanation from American McGee: "What's that you say? You'd like to see more crazy fairy tale adaptations from Spicy Horse? Hmmm... what's this? Oh, I dunno... perhaps concept art from an as-yet-unannounced game we have in development. Intriguing!" That makes this all sound more mysterious than it is, as the image is of a stylized beanstalk, and if that still leaves any room for doubt, it is captioned "Jack and the Beanstalk," so it's an easy bet that American has traded his cow for some magic beans. There's no word on when to expect more info on this. Thanks VG247.

Origin Auto-Adds Steam EA Games

EA's Origin service can automatically find EA games on your system and add them to your Origin profile, reports Day One Patch, as a user reports finding a copy of Dead Space 2 purchased through Steam in their Origin account. In reporting this news, Joystiq has declared the process benign: "Origin is known to check out the file names on users' computers -- without reading or transmitting any private information back to EA, of course -- and it now uses that power to streamline your EA games lists. In other words, EA is using its power for good. And to better market its own titles."

Interstellar Marines Deadlock

The Interstellar Marines Website features Deadlock version 0.3.0, the first new installment in some time in the ongoing development of this sci-fi action/adventure/shooter. Word is: "In our ongoing quest for true multiplayer immersion we bring you Deadlock 0.3.0 which primarily consist of a kill and be killed game loop. Join the servers, battle your fellow marines and experience the continuous iterations of what we are trying to achieve with Interstellar Marines." Here's more:

Deadlock version 0.3.0 is online and available to all Spearheads and Frontliners. This version continues our commitment to Open Door Development which provides access to Deadlock, while it's being developed. Remember that you can get access to Deadlock as well as support the development of Interstellar Marines by upgrading your profile to Spearhead or Frontliner in our Shop.

This update includes, among other things, the ability to shoot each other in multiplayer, new dynamic weather/game modes, new impact effects and lit particles system and weapon aiming with RDS (Red Dot Scope). Watch the video and read on for a detailed changelog.

FTL: Faster Than Light Kickstarter

A new Kickstarter Campaign is underway for FTL: Faster Than Light, a space combat game being developed in Shanghai, China. They have already surpassed their $10,000 goal by more than 50%, so it seems this is well on its way. If you are interested in more details on this game, there's a trailer on FTL Website and a preview on PC Gamer.

Sniper Elite V2 Preorder Bonus: Assassinate Hitler

505 Games and Rebellion announce a preorder bonus for Sniper Elite V2, saying those who commit in advance to the upcoming sharpshooting sequel will get the chance to "change history" in a mission to assassinate Adolph Hitler. The Sniper Elite V2 Facebook Page has a couple of screenshots from this mission (also, there's a new killcam of the week trailer on Eurogamer), and here are details on U.K. preorders:

Fans who pre-order Sniper Elite V2 from any UK retailer prior to May 4, the UK launch date, will gain access to this ultimate single player mission as well as two new weapons – the Soviet semi-automatic battle rifle SVT-40 and the standard German service rifle Kar 98.

You have one chance to change history – intel has been received that Hitler is returning from Berchtesgaden to Berlin via his personal train. Players must intercept the train as it waits at the station and take down the Fuhrer as he hastily makes way for the station on foot. There is only a single opportunity for players to do what so many wish had been done – take out the leader of the Third Reich.

One chance. One bullet. Make it count.

Hydrophobia developer Dark Energy Digital is bankrupt, and entering administration, reports GamesIndustry.biz (registration required). They say employees have already begun receiving pink slips, and offer the following outline of their understanding of the situation: "A source at the company told GamesIndustry.biz that staff are concerned about outstanding payments. The company was originally known as Blade Interactive when it began work on Hydrophobia, but went bust in 2008, before owners Peter and Deborah Jones resurfaced with a new company under the name Dark Energy Digital."

Out of the Blue

As an inside joke I share with a buddy goes, everybody likes pancakes, so happy National Pancake day to all of you here in the U.S. (as well as flapjack-crazed folks from around the world planning to move here just to be able to celebrate the occasion). The IHOP National Pancake Day Page shows how to find your nearest location to get free short stack of buttermilk pancakes to benefit your belly, and the opportunity to offer a donation to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Unfortunately for those overseas, though IHOP once stood for International House of Pancakes, this apparently refers to the cuisine, rather than their locations, as they only have restaurants in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Guatemala.
