Reign of Thunder Announced

The Day 1 Studios Website announces Reign of Thunder is the game they recently teased, though rather than a new MechAssault game, word is this "is an all new Mech IP being developed by the people who brought you the award winning MechAssault series" (thanks Gamer's Hell). A Reign of Thunder Announce Trailer is online with glimpses of mechs and gameplay, and pointing the way to the game's website, which only offers the trailer, so be careful not to get caught in a loop there. Here's word:

Mech fans have been asking us for years to return to the genre and we’ve been listening. Reign of Thunder is an all new Mech IP being developed by the people who brought you the award winning MechAssault series. We’ve been hard at work creating a hard hitting, fast paced, explosive action game with all the customization options you could ever want. Check out the trailer, it is actual gameplay from our upcoming beta build! Signup below for more information as it becomes available.

Gabe Newell on Valve Hardware and Owning Steam Games

An interview on The PA Report talks with Valve's Gabe Newell, discussing some general topics with Valve's Managing Director, whose beard is growing in nicely (though not to the magnificent degree mine has at this point). The discussion covers things like his work schedule, his fascination with wearable computers, the possibility Valve might someday sell hardware, pricing games on Steamand more (thanks nin). He also offers responses to questions about to what degree customers won games purchased on Steam:

But even from kind of a more general point of view, you have services like Steam or Origin where these many purchases and micro-transactions and all these transactions we’re making through multiple companies are kind of tied to this overreaching account. Do you have lawyers who kind of look at the legal implication of where exactly you fit into that relationship?

Yeah, we have lawyers who look at stuff all the time, I’m not sure I’m answering your question directly. It’s sort of like this kind of messy issue, and it doesn’t really matter a whole lot what the legal issues are, the real thing is that you have to make your customers happy at the end of the day and if you’re not doing that it doesn’t really matter what you think about various supreme court decisions or EU decisions. If you’re not making your customers happy you’re doing something stupid and we certainly always want to make our customers happy. And I think we have a track record of having done that.

Double Fine Kickstart Hits $2M

The Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter Page shows this fundraising campaign has now surpassed the two million dollar mark. The original goal of this kickstart was $400K, so at this point the game should be five times better than originally anticipated.

U.K. Charts

The latest GfK Chart-Track list of the top 20 full-priced PC entertainment titles in the U.K. for the week ending February 18th, where Football Manager 2012 retains the top spot for another week. There's more variety on the all platform chart where there's a new number one: UFC Undisputed.

PC Alan Wake Breaks Even

A post on the Alan Wake Community Forums from Remedy announces that their decision to belatedly bring Alan Wake to the PC has resulted in the game hitting #1 on Steam and making back their investment in porting the psychological thriller to Windows (thanks Eurogamer).

I wanted to chime in here. We are very happy with the sales and hitting #1 on Steam at launch was nothing short of amazing. We recouped our development and marketing expenses during the first 48 hours. And yes, we're certainly very excited about PC.

Telepath RPG: Servants of God Patch

Sinister Design now offers a new patch for Telepath RPG: Servants of God to update the Adobe AIR-powered action/RPG to version 1.8.12. The new version includes a bunch of fixes and other tweaks. There is also word that the game now supports more voice-acting than can be fit into the AIR installer, so there is now a separate download with additional voiceovers.

Out of the Blue

It's President's Day here in the U.S., honoring the mixed bag of leaders this country has chosen over the years. This year I have decided to exploit a loophole in this holiday, and honor myself in my role of El Presidente for Life of this website. So there... Happy El Presidente's Day. Let me know if you need an address to send presents.
