Bad Day at Day 1?

Day 1 Studios has suffered a round of job losses, reports GameSpot, citing a "source" in saying the developer lost a deal with Konami to create an unannounced Silent Scope remake, and has laid off 95% of the team that was working on the project. They say a "significantly smaller" team remains intact at work on a different project. This is still unconfirmed, as this information is not yet verified by either Konami or Day 1.

New EA/BioWare/LucasArts TM

A new trademark filing by Electronic Arts for Paper, Scissors, Stone is noted on GameSpot, where they say the filing covers a computer game with a science fiction-theme and an "M" rating, and lists BioWare and LucasArts as its developer. No further details are offered, so it's not clear if this relates to EA's recent acquisition of KickNation to bolster BioWare's social gaming division, BioWare's planned VGA announcement, or something else.

World of Warcraft Hotfixes

The World of Warcraft Website outlines a round of hotfixes implemented since the recenlt launch of the new version 4.3 "Hour of Twilight" patch for Blizzard's MMORPG. Also, the Blizzard Entertainment 20th Anniversary celebration continues with a new feature on a day in the life of a Blizzard community manager. Thanks Ant.

EverQuest Cheaters on Notice

The SOE forums have a warning for those using cheats and exploits in EverQuest, saying their malfeasance in the MMORPG will not go unpunished (thanks Massively). Here's word:
Cheating has become a serious concern to our EQ player base this past year. Exploits and hacks strike at the very heart of a game, creating deep resentment in the community as selfish players gain benefit at the expense of their honest fellows. You’ve let us know your thoughts, and we have taken action.

Players who partake in cheating are hereby put on notice: stop now. This isn’t an idle warning. We have quietly invested significant behind the scenes effort into detecting cheaters quickly and accurately. The vast majority of players enjoy the game on a fair and even playing field. Those who gain unfair advantage over others will not be tolerated.

You know who you are, we know who you are, and you now have your warning. We strongly advise you to take heed and reform your ways immediately. There will be no second chances.

GLaDOS Invading Defense Grid Next Week

Hidden Path Entertainment announces plans to update Defense Grid on December 7th with an expansion called Defense Grid: You Monster, which will add Portal's GLaDOS to the game:
GLaDOS, the menacing AI from Valve’s awesome Portal franchise, guest stars in this new 8-level Defense Grid expansion. Players will battle not only alien hordes, but the deviousness of GLaDOS as she tests the player’s skills and changes all of the rules. In addition to the 8 new maps, Defense Grid: You Monster features 35 challenge missions, many new achievements and over 15 hours of additional game play. Defense Grid: You Monster will be available for $4.99 or 400 Microsoft points and requires the original game to play.

Hidden Path also announced that today the free Community Challenge update to the original Defense Grid game, has been released. This update features improved UI, over 30 new challenge missions and five new game modes, providing dozens of hours of new gameplay for free, whether players purchase the expansion or not!

Defense Grid: You Monster is just the latest chapter to Defense Grid: The Awakening. Joining previous map expansions: Borderlands and Resurgence, You Monster adds new environments and modes of play, requiring new strategies to beat back the aliens and defend humanity. Frequently cited as the best tower defense game available and one of the 25 highest rated games by users on Xbox LIVE Arcade, Defense Grid is for many the definitive tower defense experience.
