Legend of Grimrock Beta, Delay

The Legend of Grimrock Blog announces Legend of Grimrock is now in beta testing, quickly quashing hopes of those eager to try Almost Human Games' upcoming dungeon crawler by adding: "at this point we are not looking for additional beta testers." They also offer a new beta trailer and word that the game will not be released this year as they had planned:

Secondly, many of you have been asking if we’re on time for launch at the end of this year. Looking at the game we have now we could do it but that wouldn’t be the best game we can deliver. We want to make this game really shine so that’s why we have decided to push the release to early next year. With the extra time we can hopefully fix all the bugs, make the level flow better, tweak item attributes to perfection and adjust the balance to be just right. These are the things that really matter to us, and hopefully to you as a player too! We are not ready to give an exact release date yet, because when we give a date we want to keep the promise too. But don’t worry, we won’t take too long! :)

"Canon" Indy Jones Facebook Game Tomorrow

A new Indiana Jones prequel is coming in the form of a Zynga Facebook game, rather than a movie, reports Kotaku. In what sounds like something out of a South Park parody, they say the game known as Adventure World will be renamed Indiana Jones Adventure World following the addition of Indy-themed content, and the story is to be canon. Word is the new game goes live tomorrow, but the new content will roll out over several weeks. Kotaku offers a write-up on the original Adventure World, saying it "seemed like an Indiana Jones riff from the start," and that it "is different from other Zynga games because it is story-driven and plays a little more similarly to a classic action-adventure video game than a simple farm or city-management game, letting the player control a main character who uses whips and machetes to cut through jungle, fight snakes, deactivate traps and help local people, while questing for rare treasure." As for the business model, they note: "Like the other major Zynga games, it entices people to click and play for a few minutes per session before waiting to earn more energy to keep playing—or by paying for that energy to keep playing immediately." A subsequent story offers video of the game. Thanks nin.

Mad Max Game & Brendan McNamara's Whore Of The Orient

Financial Review reveals the next game from Team Bondi founder Brendan McNamara is called Whore Of The Orient, as they report that Mad Max director George Miller has acquired film rights to the project (thanks MCV). Here's word on the game and the Mad Max: Fury Road game:

Which is why, after resisting the impulse for years, and watching imitators clean up, Miller is now finally going to make Mad Max, the game. Backed by Warner Bros, the game version of Fury Road was to be made in Sweden, until Miller saw what Team Bondi could do. He has also acquired the rights to Team Bondi founder Brendan McNamara’s next game, Whore Of The Orient.

“With the government’s support we can immediately go forward with two games,” says Mitchell. “Warner Bros is standing by, willing to do Fury Road; the incentive would bring it back here in a New York minute. It’s not immediately obvious but the potential in the video games sector is massive. Just from the statistics people are showing me, it’s a $60 billion industry fast-tracking towards $90 billion. And it’s not dominated by any particular country. Films are very expensive, so studios . . . are making drastically fewer of them, but much higher quality, and they invest in sequels, because they know that they’ve got an opening which they don’t have to buy with their marketing dollars as aggressively.

Battlefield 3 Gulf of Oman Trailer

The Battlefield Blog now offers a new Gulf of Oman Gameplay Trailer from Battlefield 3 showing off more of the upcoming Back to Karkand expansion pack for the military shooter sequel. The clip highlights new vehicles in the add-on. "I wanted to complement what we already have in the base game, plus I wanted to bring back some of the classic vehicles from Battlefield 2 that we know players loved, such as the Short Take-Off/Vertical Landing fighter jet and the desert buggy. In today’s trailer, you can also get a first glimpse of a hitherto unannounced fourth vehicle bound to strike fear into the very hearts of the enemy. See if you can spot it!", said Back to Karkand Lead Designer Niklas Fegraeus.

New NVIDIA Beta Drivers now offers new beta version 290.36 drivers for NVIDIA graphics cards. Here's an overview:

The new NVIDIA GeForce 290.36 beta drivers are now available to download. Recommended for gamers diving into Batman: Arkham City, the drivers also add official support for Ambient Occlusion in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Furthermore, a Battlefield 3 fix is included to combat the random appearance of triangular artifacts, a SLI shadow bug is stamped out in Crysis 2, and Settlers 7 corruption is eliminated.

On the tech side, the 290.36 beta drivers enable NVIDIA Surround on newly-released X79 SLI-certified motherboards, and native 3D Vision DisplayPort 1.1 connections are now possible on BenQ XL2420T and BenQ XL2420TX monitors.
