The Syndicate Website now offers a new trailer (NSFW) from Syndicate, offering almost 11 minutes of gameplay from Starbreeze's upcoming first-person shooter remake of Syndicate (thanks VG247). The clip is narrated by EA's Jeff Gamon, the game's executive producer, who outlines the elements of the "executive search" mission it depicts from an early level of the game. Several gameplay elements are revealed along the way, including environments; the implanted chip that augments (for lack of a better term) your character with navigation, hacking, and psionic abilities; stealth; combat (both melee and shooting, with each weapon having an alternate fire mode); cover; gruesome chip harvesting; and more on-screen text than most web-browsers. The clip shows ample use of the "X" button, so it is probably from the Xbox 360 version.
The Cliffhanger Productions Newsletter reveals plans for Shadowrun Online, an upcoming browser-based MMOG from the folks behind Jagged Alliance Online, and according to Eurogamer, Shadowrun creator Jordan Weisman is involved in the project. The newsletter offers a screenshot from an "early prototype," and here's word on the game: The game will feature two major parts – the action map, where you (and your friends) do missions from stealthily infiltrating a secret Renraku research facility to punching the lights out of a major Aztechnology outpost with guns blazing. Hacking, magic and gunfights are all part of that and will be done simultaneously (so nobody needs to go for pizza while your hacker battles Black ICE for two hours).
The second part will be the legwork and mission preparation. This will happen on a city overview map, where you can try and use your contacts, skills or resources to gain info on the mission goal, acquire blueprints, bribe guards or prepare the right soft or spell for your endeavor. This will be closer to rolling the dice on an action and getting a short narrated outcome. Each of those actions will cost action points (and if you want to get better odds you may want to spend more action points on a specific objective).
So if you don’t have the time for an extended session, you may just want to spend a couple of AP to prepare and make sure you get the most out of your mission when you actually want to tackle it. Update: There's more detail in this FAQ (thanks Creston), including this: Question: "What can you tell us to scare away the evil spirit of the recent xbox 'shadowrun' game?" Answer: "it is nothing like the xbox game."
This interview on Skewed and Reviewed talks with Jon Jacob about Hunt The THING, a new CryENGINE 2 MMOFPS tie-in with The Thing, both the John Carpenter movie and the upcoming prequel. Jon is the NEVERDIE famed for buying and selling virtual items for record prices in Entropia Universe, and the game is a product of Neverdie Studios as part of their ROCKtropia virtual world, which itself is a subset of the Entropia Universe. Here are a couple of answers that outline how this all works: How did the idea for the game come about and what is the background and setting for the game and how close does it follow the new and previous film?
We were discussing with Universal the possibility of using ROCKtropia as a backdrop for Movie length MMO’s and The THING stood out as a perfect fit. Our Platform Entropia universe features the Cryengine2 which is an amzing graphics engine for creating stunning Landscapes and the Antarctic is such a powerful setting. We chose to draw our inspiration primarily from both John Carpenters’ The THING and the upcoming prequal, but our story is set on our Virtual World ROCKtropia which exists in a parallel Universe so we are not Locked into the specific storylines of the movie.
How is player vs. player going to be handled?
Well since this is a free to play adventure inside an MMO with a micro transaction economy, you need to be super careful with Your free Ammo, if you blow too much, then you are going to have to visit the Supply Dump and try to pick up enough free oil barrels to trade for ammo, but the supply dump is a PVP combat Zone, so You are gonna have to fight for it. When you are ready for your final showdown with The THING, you are also going to be in a PVP combat zone so you are going to need to make alliances to survive.

An article on Gamasutra outlines reasons for the recently announced plans to reset stats in Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad based on a conversation with Alan Wilson of Tripwire Interactive. "Basically, the system was over-recording the points scoring in the system and 'leeching' points from one player to another on servers, so artificially boosting players," Alan explains. "Once we had thousands of people playing, this problem became really obvious - instead of it happening slowly, it suddenly started happening really quickly. This was crediting players with kills they hadn't got and so on, at the end of rounds. That would then push the players' rankings way up, as well as their weapon experience." Alan also admits this situation has "probably" put off some players. "Some people, who put in a lot of hours after launch, are unhappy, but that is why we are running at double XP right now - so people can get back to where they actually should be, reasonably quickly," he tells them. "For most people, it was more of a relief - more of an indication that we have been fixing stuff!"
Matrix Games announces a new patch is now available for Combat Command: The Matrix Edition, updating this World War II strategy game to version 1.03. Fed up with Chrome almost always starting up with a complaint that it hadn't been shut down properly, I did a little Googling to see if the source of this problem could be identified. I found threads on this dating back years, with the most tried and true solution being to uninstall the browser, delete all its orphaned subdirectories, and start from scratch. Not having the time or inclination to subject myself to all that, I tried a secondary solution that involved deleting some .tmp files Chrome seems to have generated somewhere along the way. This seems to have mostly cured things, though I had a single incident since trying it. Hopefully this will stick, as it was a bit of a pain.
