Call of Duty Job Openings

The Treyarch Jobs Page lists several job openings for positions including Lead Multiplayer Designer that seem pretty obviously for their next Call of Duty game, as one of the requirements listed is: "An expert understanding of the Call of Duty game universe." There was little reason to doubt that the developer will be making another installment in the military shooter sequel, and there are no hints about the direction the game will take. Thanks Shacknews.

EU Trine 2 in Q4

Focus Home Interactive and Frozenbyte announce Frozenbyte will distribute the Windows and OS X editions of Trine 2 in Europe in Q4 of this year. The platformer sequel originally planned for release this past spring, before being delayed to late this summer, and while this new release date is only announced for Europe, it seems safe to infer that the North American edition will be delayed again as well. Word is: "Trine 2 will be available in Europe as a Standard Edition and as a Collector's Edition that features an exclusive CD soundtrack by the returning composer Ari Pulkkinen (recently of Angry Birds/Outland fame)."

Battleblog #8 on the Battlefield Blog is titled "Build your weapon of choice," as it outlines weapon customization in Battlefield 3, DICE's upcoming military shooter sequel. Word is: "Basically, each main weapon in the game has three accessory slots, where you can attach weapon accessories you have unlocked. Weapon accessory unlocks are received on a per weapon basis, meaning that the more time you spend with a particular weapon, the more options you will have to customize that weapon to fit different your combat role and play style." They offer screenshots and details on some of these weapon upgrades.

Your puzzle-solving tool is an IDS (interdimensional shift device) glove that lets you shift dimensions--therefore changing the physics of your environment--as you make your way down to the bowels of the manor." They outline some of the puzzles they experienced, and describe the project as "a funny, charming, and quirky puzzle platformer that would appeal to gamers of all ages and skill levels." Fallout: New Vegas Lonesome Road DLC Next Month, Two More DLC to Follow

The Bethesda Blog has a September 20th release date for Lonesome Road, the delayed DLC for Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian's action/RPG sequel, while also revealing plans for two additional DLC packs called Courier's Stash and Gun Runners' Arsenal to follow a week later, offering content previously only available as a preorder bonus. They offer some screenshots from Gun Runners’ Arsenal and the following explanation of all this:

The Courier’s journey ends this September.

We’re excited to share that Lonesome Road, the fourth add-on pack for Fallout: New Vegas, will be available for download on Xbox LIVE, PlayStation Network and Steam on September 20th.

In Lonesome Road you are contacted by the original Courier Six, a man by the name of Ulysses who refused to deliver the Platinum Chip at the start of Fallout: New Vegas. Ulysses promises the answer as to why he didn’t take the job, but only if you make one last journey into the hurricane-swept canyons of the Divide, a landscape torn apart by earthquakes and violent storms. It’s up to you whether you take the job or not.

But wait! There’s more!!

Today we’re also announcing two additional DLC packs, Courier’s Stash and Gun Runners’ Arsenal, which will be available for download one week later on September 27th.

Courier’s Stash (Xbox LIVE for 160 Microsoft points, PlayStation Network and Steam for $1.99) gives players immediate access to four content bundles previously available only through pre-ordering Fallout: New Vegas. The Caravan Pack, Classic Pack, Mercenary Pack and Tribal Pack each offer unique weapons, apparel and aid advantages that will help you throughout your journey.

Gun Runners’ Arsenal (Xbox LIVE for 320 Microsoft points, PlayStation Network and Steam for $3.99) increases the range of unique weapons, weapon mods, ammo types and recipes waiting to be uncovered in the vast Mojave Wasteland.

Out of the Blue

Wow! Just... wow. GOG.com is now offering Wing Commander 1+2, updated to play on modern computers. I cannot wait to grab these and check them out, as they rank among my favorite old-school gaming memories. The games, the Secret Missions and Special Operations add-ons, the voice pack (sold separately!), the joy of rising to the top of the kill board, the horror of losing wingmen, loving Angel, hating Maniac... it all comes back. These experiences were so memorable they inspired my gaming handle "BlueHair." Wow, looking back at what I just wrote, it seems apparent this may not live up to all those memories, but that is not going to stop me from finding out.
