BF3Blog has word that Team Deathmatch mode in
Battlefield 3 will only
support 24-players on all platforms, even Windows, though 64 player games
will be supported on the PC in
conquest mode. They note that these matches will be smaller infantry-focused
battles without vehicles as a probable explanation for this decision. Thanks
Joao.
Steam now offers preloads

action/RPG prequel so they'll be prepared to play as soon as the game unlocks
next week (Tuesday in North America, Thursday in Australia, and Friday in
Europe. Pre-purchasers receive a 10% discount along with eight new

Fortress 2. Thanks Bill.
A
trailer has surfaced on
the YouTube with what it said to be the official gameplay trailer for
I
Am Alive, Ubisoft's
apparently not dead
survival game. The clip shows third-person gameplay in a post-apocalyptic
environment, including a bit of combat and platforming. Thanks
superannuation (supererogatory), who also points to a note in
David Kristofer Fried's LinkedIn
Profile (more from this below) about the nature of this game, as his résumé
includes this: "Game design for I Am Alive reconstruction 03, including a
non-kill oriented FPS shooting system involving group AI behaviors where threats
and wounding were promoted over murder as the most effective gameplay mechanic."
Also from
supererogatory (superannuation) is word from
David Kristofer Fried's LinkedIn
profile about a cancelled
Heroes of Might and Magic RTS that became an
RPG. His résumé has this note: "Game design and several story passes for
unannounced Heroes of Might and Magic game, which began as an RTS and was
changed to an Oblivion style RPG before being cancelled."
Ars Technica has word from
Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson
that Mojang will indeed go to court, if necessary, to battle over
Bethesda's legal action over
the Scrolls name. "If we’re going to court, I will fight this for as
long as it takes," he said. "It’s a bogus claim, and [Bethesda has] several
one-word-named games that share a noun with other games that precede [its]
games," noting that
RAGE could be viewed as a conflict with Sega's
Streets of Rage. He also wryly notes his
his recent quirky Q3A
challenge to settle this may be ill-advised, as: "If it came to a Quake III
tournament, I have a feeling we just might have to change the name," Persson
told Wired.com (as Bethesda owns the brand). "In retrospect, Quake III might
have been a poor choice."
TimeGate Studios tweets that a double-XP weekend is now underway on all
platforms for Section 8: Prejudice, their multiplayer shooter.
Word
is: "Double XP Weekend, Friday, August 19th - Monday, August 22nd! New
Players, unlock weapons and equipment twice as fast this coming weekend."
The original soundtrack from
Sanctum is now available, offering the tunes
from this indie tower defense/first-person shooter hybrid. Word is the OST
"features 11 beautifully remastered songs and a bonus track, from soft, soothing
tunes to heart-pumping electronic battle music." It is available on
Steam for $4.99 and on
BandCamp as one of those
pay what you want dealies. On a related note, the price of game itself is now
permanently reduced, and it can be had for $9.99 USD.
Well, things have worked out properly on my trip, as I am getting a perfect 4G
LTE connection on my laptop, and it is completely awesome. I never appreciated
how much crappy connectivity contributed to me hating working on the road, as I
always focused on not enjoying using a laptop, but this has been a relative
pleasure. That said, I still expect to be posting tomorrow's update in the early
evening.
