World of Warplanes Announced

Wargaming.net announces development of World of Warplanes, a free-to-play multiplayer game "based on military air dominance ranging from the 1930's through the 1950's." This is a standalone game from the developers of World of Tanks, and there's more in the announcement about World of Tanks than the new project, even the quote about World of Warplanes: "We are proud to be able to develop another high quality Free to Play game for the world's gaming community," said Wargaming.net CEO Victor Kislyi. "World of Tanks has been extremely succesful [sic] and we look to bring the same high quality if not better to World of Warplanes."

Top Gun: Hard Lock Announced

Get ready to re-enter the (Archer voice) danger zone, as 505 Games announces Top Gun: Hard Lock, which will offer gamers another chance to strap in for all the dogfighting, towel-snapping action of the 1980s Tom Cruise movie. The game is expected in the spring for Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, and word is: "In development under license from Paramount Digital Entertainment, Top Gun: Hard Lock is aerial dog-fighting at jet speeds and tailgating MiGs at Mach 2, while offering a unique 'Hard lock' mode where players perform air combat maneuvers that deliver an explosively satisfying visual payoff that brings them right into the action. Featuring the legendary F-14 Tomcat fighter jet and a number of additional licensed planes and weapons, and more than enough enemy MIGs to turn into smoldering rubble, the game is carefully mixed with just enough nostalgic references to remain true to its action movie roots." And if you have the need... the need for screens, well, here are some screenshots from the game, and here is a trailer offering some gameplay. The trailer is also embedded here. Op Ed

Cliffski's Blog - Lets kill the cheap, and begging myth right now ok?
The implication is that the games are worth a dollar each (or less!). I get the idea that people try and make an offer that you’d be mad to turn down, and for a limited time, as a one-off way to grab some press that you can’t get any other way, maybe there is some merit to that, but increasingly it seems to be the case that people think that charging more than $5 for a game is ‘cheeky’ and that indie games should be $0-$5, and of course half of it goes to charity, but even if we get $0.01, we really thank you for your payment etc etc…

Out of the Blue

My new monitor arrived yesterday, Newegg did a good job of getting that here quickly, especially since I didn't upgrade to the cheapo shipping. I suffered a pang when I peeked at their new flyer this morning and saw this monitor is now on sale for close to $50.00 less than I paid. Oh well, it wasn't hugely expensive to start with (I'm pretty sure it was the least expensive monitor I've ever bought), and the joy of not having one of my monitors constantly flickering feels priceless.
