Humble Bundle Investment

This SEC Filing shows that The Humble Bundle has received a $4.7 million investment, which Gamasutra says a "reliable source" informs them is led by venture capitalists Sequoia Capital, and that they not yet received a response from Humble Bundle cofounder (and COO of Wolfire Games) John Graham to their inquiry about what they will do with this cash. The Humble Bundle is currently amid their third offering of a bundle of DRM-free indie games with a pick-your-own-price payment scheme and a charitable component.

Battlefield 3 Commentary Trailer

The Battlefield 3 Facebook Page announces "mission accomplished," as DICE's quest for one million fans is complete. This is the recently released 12 minute trailer that now offers a producer's commentary on what we are seeing.

Fighting Game Fan Fights Lag

There's a profile of Tony Cannon and his GGPO software on Gamasutra where they describe the origins of this software to overcome gaming latency as a personal battle by a fighting game enthusiast to overcome the lag that impedes gameplay in twitch-oriented games. This has been successful, as they say the software will be part of several upcoming games, including some projects yet to be announced. Here's a bit on how this works:

Cannon started thinking about how he might fix these problems for timing-dependent games like his favored fighters, and came up with an idea he calls rollbacks. Instead of inserting any internet latency between the button press and the start of the move, his technique puts the lag on the beginning of the opponent’s move, with filler animation to hide the effect somewhat.

"That’s actually way better. You might see a little glitchiness, but all your timing is the same," he said.

New X-Motor Racing

The full version is available from this page and the updated demo is available here, providing a sample of the game with three tracks and one car. Those who already own the game are advised to use the in-game updater to upgrade. The change list follows. Continue here to read the full story.

Out of the Blue

I'm still suffering with the Knickerbockers' defeat last night. They put in such respectable efforts in their losses in the two games played in Boston, I really had high hopes they could pull out the win in game three, in spite of being shorthanded. Instead, they were utterly demolished by a Celtics team that played at an extraordinary level, a harsh reminder that the Knicks still have a lot of improving to do before they are competitive with the NBA's elite.
