DiRT 3 Group B Rally Trailer

This new trailer shows off the Group B Rally discipline in DiRT 3, Codemasters' upcoming racing sequel. Here's an explanation: "Group B is synonymous with a short-lived period in Rally where light regulation and few restrictions on car development led to manufacturers producing some of the most exciting cars that the sport has ever seen. Group B cars have since entered Rally folklore since cars with their astonishing power couldn’t have been developed during any other era of the sport. Sadly, these iconic cars were involved in an increasing number of accidents, which resulted in the banning of Group B Rally in 1986." Here's the embedded version. TF2 Raises 300K for Charity

The Team Fortress 2 Blog has word on the outcome of Valve's chapeaus for charity initiative, saying this has raised over 300K for earthquake and tsunami relief:

Wow. Seriously, people, WOW. We knew you had it in you, but we're still amazed you've raised over $300,000 so far.

Take a BOW, TF2 community -- because that is an incredible, frankly astounding, amount of money from a dedicated number of gamers, to one heck of a lot of people in some real need right now. Anytime someone gives you guff about something negative in gaming, you go ahead and point them to this post, because here's some late-breaking damn news: they are wrong and gamers are generous and awesome.

Thanks again, and don't forget, these items are available until April 6.

Games On Net - Devil's Advocate: You Don’t Want Innovation, So Stop Asking For It.
You hear talk about how there are only seven basic plots running throughout the stories we tell in our lives. How many movies can you name that are simply clever re-tellings of a Shakespeare play? And why stop there, when we can dig even deeper and realise that many of Shakespeare’s supposedly epoch-defining works are nothing more than retellings, or ruthless cribbings, of ancient myths and other classical sources? Get used to it: telling, and re-telling stories, is a central pillar of the human condition. People don’t want innovation because people haven’t changed in literally thousands of years - okay, we’ve got better dental hygiene (except for games journalists, maybe) but other than that we’ve still got the same hopes, fears, and special places in our heart for the stories that speak to what it is to be human.

Out of the Blue

I finally got rid of the pepper-laced suet cake after a couple of weeks, as it turned out to be almost as bird-proof as it was squirrel-proof. I had a couple of regular suet cakes left, so I put one out, and it lasted several days, and I didn't see any squirrels going after it, so I think the peppered cake has the squirrels wary now, which is pretty cool. Now I have a strategy for next winter, as I am going to get a couple of the peppered ones to use at a couple of strategic points during the season to properly train my Pavlov's squirrels.
